The black car accelerated smoothly out of the narrow street as it rged onto one of Solvyrn’s wider boulevards.

The passenger in the front seat kept her tablet angled toward her lap, monitoring the drone feed and the vital signs patch she had slapped onto Eira and Dhayun’s necks in the back seat.

Both girls were slumped against each other in the rear with their wrists zip-tied behind their backs and ankles tied.

"ETA to extraction point: seventeen minutes," the driver murmured into her comms. "No tail, no alerts on the city internet."

A calm female voice answered through the earpiece "Maintain speed. No deviations and be careful. It’s Solvyrn city after all."

"I am still surprised that they didn’t have any protection around the girl. Well whatever, reach soon."

The passenger glanced into the rear-view mirror at the two unconscious girls.

"Targets are stable. Sedation holding at 92% efficacy."

"Good. Keep them under until we cross the outer ward line."

The car surged forward, weaving through light traffic, delivery vans, a few taxis, and the occasional student stumbling to dorms from a bar.

As the car dashed through an empty road, suddenly, sothing heavy dropped from above.

THUD

It landed directly in the middle of the road, and the woman slamd on the brake pedal.

*screech* Tires scread.

The car fishtailed violently and swung left before the car jerked to a halt inches from the obstacle.

Dust and snow swirled in the headlights.

Raising her head, the driver’s gaze narrowed, looking at the hooded figure standing on the road.

Tall. Female. Black cloak billowing slightly in the wind and her hood was deep enough to hide her face in shadow.

A long, straight sword rested casually on one shoulder, gleaming with faint violet ether.

The driver’s hands tightened on the wheel. The passenger’s tablet screen flickered as she urgently tapped a status update.

Before either could say anything, the hooded woman moved.

The sword ca off her shoulder in a silver blur.

SHINK

A single, perfect horizontal slash.

The top half of the car, roof, door pillars, and upper window fras was sheared clean off.

The severed top section flew up, spun lazily in the air, and crashed to the pavent twenty ters behind them with a deafening CRASH-BANG.

The two won in the front seats froze in shock.

In the back seat Eira and Dhayun remained unconscious, slumped against each other.

The hooded woman lowered her sword slowly.

"Targets identified."

The two won quickly stepped out of the car and were prepared to attack the new intruder.

But in the next instant, the hooded woman disappeared, and a crimson arc of blood splattered in the air.

The driver’s head left her shoulders and rolled down the snow before coming to a stop.

The headless corpse stood for a mont before falling down.

The other woman’s eyes shrank, and before she could make any move, a punch landed on her gut.

"Guargh-" She doubled over, and the hooded woman grabbed her head and smashed her knee into the woman’s face.

CRUNCH

The woman’s nose burst open in a spray of blood and cartilage.

Her head snapped back and her eyes rolled up as she fell unconcious.

She dropped like a sack of at, collapsing face-first into the snow, with the blood pooling beneath her ruined face.

Silence returned.

The woman walked to the back of the car and looked at the two girls.

She lowered her hood, revealing her short black hair and black eyes, and a thin scar ran diagonally across her left cheekbone.

Clicking her earpiece, she muttered "Targets rescued, Madam Elize."

In the warm, softly lit kitchen of the estate far across the city, Elize stood beside the stove with a wooden spoon paused mid-stir in a pot of simring miso.

The phone was wedged between her shoulder and ear, an apron tied loosely around her waist.

"Hm. You left one alive, right? Torture her and ask who ordered the kidnapping."

"Understood."

"And return my girls ho," Elize muttered in a soft voice.

The woman inclined her head, even though Elize couldn’t see it "As per your order, Madam Elize."

With a soft sigh, Elize lowered her phone "Good thing we had planned counterasures."

Ever since Brandom beca a male awakener, Elize knew many people would target him.

More than that, they might even target his loved ones, so she always had a team inside Solvyrn City to monitor the girls when they went out alone.

A cold glint passed through Elize’s eyes "Soone dared... huh."

She picked up her mobile again and saw Charlotte’s na in the contacts.

The vast hall is pitch black, and there are no windows, no torches, only an eerie stillness and a throne of black stone standing at the center of the room.

Upon the throne, a breathtaking woman is sitting utterly naked.

Her skin was pale, untouched by light, and her long black hair spilled down the steps of the throne, reaching the floor.

Her lips were faintly crimson, and her dark red nipples peeked out from her breasts as she sat there with her legs crossed. -[1]

Before her, Maevrith Le Vörtdämrung, the matriarch of House Vernhail, was kneeling.

"Your Majesty... now only you can protect ."

The woman sitting on the throne just frowned slightly "Maevrith... you remain as a fool. Giving Asphodel Order to you was a mistake."

"I already told you not to do anything on your own... especially matters concerning him."

"Because he is the Herald of Rheanne..."

"I do not care about your experints or your curiosity about how he is wielding ether... I warned you multiple tis."

"You never listened to , so now you will suffer... I will not help you in this matter."

Maevrith’s gaze trembled upon hearing this "But... Your Majest-"

"You can leave. I am quite busy right now, taking care of my own Herald."

With a deep breath, Maevrith lowered her head and slowly stood up "Then I will take my leave, Your Majesty."
