"No, I am not dying." Lana’s rare, vulnerable voice made Mr. Crow’s frown deepen.
"I will call for help!" Mr. Crow hopped off Lana’s face; however, the next second, a warm hand caressed his head and feather. "Don’t."
Mr. Crow trembled while anxiety bubbled in his chest. "Don’t stop ! Lana, you can be willful, and I won’t scold, but if you dare to be careless about your health, I will beco your ancestor!"
"Hey, our lovely Mr. Crow makes my heart ache." Though weak, Lana’s teasing voice cut through the empty air, diffusing the tension there.
"Stop it! Stop flattering !" Mr. Crow furiously tried to shake off Lana’s hand, yet even then, his movent was careful. His intent not to hurt Lana was evident in his actions.
"Mr. Crow, let tell you sothing. It’s my biggest secret." Lana’s warm breath sprayed on Mr. Crow, and only then did he realize... Lana has slowly closed the distance, and now her mouth is near him.
"I love my face, and I can’t bear to let others see looking ugly!"
Mr. Crow pursed his lips; the faint fear and agony pulsing through their connection spoke volus about the truth Lana was desperately trying to hide.
"Mr. Crow?" Her soft voice broke Mr. Crow’s resolve to so extent, and he muttered, "What do you fear, Lana?"
His question was heartfelt. Seeing her suffering and yet being prideful... he couldn’t understand what she was thinking.
"Nothing..." Lana’s voice turned into a whisper, and slowly her eyes closed. "Prom...promise ...you won’t... I... trust... you... please... don’t... call anyone."
Mr. Crow felt his heart aching, and from the depths of his heart, he wished to transform into a human and take care of this stubborn girl.
Why? Why was she so harsh on herself?
Seeing the crystal-like tears flowing out of Lana’s eyes, Mr. Crow used his wings to wipe them away.
"Sigh! Why are you crying? I won’t call anyone, alright? Stop crying!"
The gentle breeze entering the room through the window made the temperature drop a bit.
Worried she might catch a cold, Mr. Crow used his psychic power to help Lana into bed and covered her with a blanket.
After tugging her in, he realized that he wasn’t panting due to exhaustion at all. Astonished, Mr. Crow checked his psychic power and was pleasantly surprised.
His psychic power had soared to a new level.
Pfft!
Suddenly, Mr. Crow whipped in the direction from where the voice had co, and he was surprised to find a silver-white kitten with her stomach facing the ceiling, sleeping in the place where Lana had previously been.
What surprised him even more was... Lana’s clothes were lying under the kitten!
"Lana?" He called out in uncertainty, his heart thumping at the sight of the adorable little silver ball.
What a heart-lting sight!
With careful steps, he reached near the fluffy ball and nudged it with his claw. The soft yet fragile fur under his claw spread a weird sensation in Mr. Crow’s heart.
This feeling was far different from holding the plushies, and Mr. Crow could guarantee with his experience that holding this kitten would be a delight to plushie lovers!
His claws twitched, and instinctively, he used his claw to hold Lana.
As a result, Mr. Crow almost wanted to squeeze her.
Lana’s body was almost like sli, squeezable and tender.
However, fearing that his rough claws might hurt her, he quickly let go and stared worriedly at the little kitten.
Using his wings, he caressed Lana’s head and saw the kitten stir in her sleep. Her pink nose was exhaling and inhaling air softly, while her fur occasionally fluttered with each tiny breath she took, shimring faintly in the pale moonlight.
Mr. Crow stared at her curiously, and just like that, 2 hours passed.
Knock! Knock!
The knock on the door broke Mr. Crow’s gaze, and he reluctantly moved his gaze away from Lana.
"Miss Lana, the dinner is ready!"
Mr. Crow wanted to reply on Lana’s behalf; however, his language couldn’t be understood by humans!
"Miss Lana?" Lucy’s voice carried a trace of confusion and worry.
’Sh*t, what should I do? Once she enters, she would find Lana in such a state... what if she mistook Lana for a stray kitten? That won’t do! I need to hide her.’ With that thought, Mr. Crow picked up kitten Lana tenderly and hid her behind a pillow.
Once she was camouflaged completely, Mr. Crow flapped his wings and opened the door.
Lucy was debating internally whether she should use the keys to open the door forcefully or wait for a few more minutes... when the door was opened.
"Miss Lana, you scared ..." Midway through her sentence, Lucy froze.
She saw Mr. Crow flapping its wings, looking at her with a tilted head.
A bit spooked, she asked in a trembling voice, "Eh... that... is Miss Lana inside?"
Seeing the crow shake its head in a human-like manner, a hint of amusent crept into her heart; however, she quickly scolded herself.
’What are you laughing about? That’s a crow! If it bites you or worse, colludes with a ghost... god knows what kind of fate you will end up with!’
Crows were considered ons of death or misfortune in the household, and Lucy’s skin prickled at the thought. She instinctively took a step back, clutching her tray tightly as if it were a shield.
The crow blinked at her...once, twice...before ruffling his feathers impatiently.
"Oh heavens," Lucy whispered, glancing at the dark hallway behind her. "Please tell Miss Lana didn’t teach this bird to open doors."
Mr. Crow resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He flapped his wings again, trying to convey: Leave. Go away. She’s fine.
But Lucy, unfortunately, wasn’t fluent in crow gestures.
Instead, she gasped. "Oh no! Don’t tell Miss Lana fainted, and this crow...this creature...is behind it!"
Though this crow often accompanied Miss Lana, who knows what kind of grudge it might hold against Lana?
