After what felt like five fast, endless minutes, Selene slowly pulled back. Her senses sharpened as she realized she was still straddling him, with Luke pinned beneath her—no chance of escape. She blinked, her piercing blue eyes refocusing, and finally looked down at him.

"Good, you ca online," Luke said, his voice rough but teasing, rubbing the tender spot where her fangs had pierced his neck. A tired smirk tugged at the corner of his lips despite everything. "You almost sucked out like thirty percent of my blood."

He was relieved she pulled back when she did—if she'd kept going, he'd have had to get tough with her, and that was the last thing he wanted.

Luke chuckled dryly as things started to settle down, shaking his head. Thankfully, his race was locked to human—no supernatural transformations for him just yet. To unlock any racial change, he'd have to reach level 30.

The chanic was supposed to make the ga harder—other races had way stronger stats than humans—but right now, this was a blessing in disguise. Selene's bite wouldn't turn him into a vampire because of so sort of "vampire virus."

Well, although he knew vampire blood usually needed to be injected into a human to cause transformation, it was good he had immunity against such things.

What was designed to stop power creep in the ga was basically acting as protection for him.

Selene's gaze held steady on him, unreadable as always, her expression cool and detached.

Then, without any hesitation or change in that icy deanor, she rose smoothly from atop him, stepping away with the graceful confidence of a predator that had just claid her prize.

Luke lay there for a mont, trying to steady his breathing and heart rate, which still hamred wildly in his chest.

The mixture of adrenaline, pain, and that strange warmth swirled inside him, leaving him feeling alive—and more than a little shaken.

Selene sat back on the edge of the sofa, her sharp gaze fixed on Luke as he caught his breath. Sothing about him was... off.

For a human, he knew far too much about vampires and Lycans—more than any ordinary mortal should. And not just that; he also knew why the Lycans were chasing Michael.

What puzzled Selene the most was why he'd saved her. In all her years hunting Lycans and running from enemies, she'd never co across a human who'd risk so much just to protect her—especially when she was weak and unconscious like that.

Honestly, it would've made more sense if he'd just killed her in her sleep. That would've been easier to understand—no ssy feelings, no complicated debts to settle, no risk to himself.

After all, she hadn't exactly been kind to him when they first t. She could still clearly rember how she'd grabbed him by the neck and slamd him hard against the wall. Not exactly a friendly introduction.

But instead of finishing her off, he'd thrown caution to the wind and risked everything to keep her alive. That was sothing else—sothing she hadn't expected.

Selene folded her arms, her face calm and unreadable, like usual. But if you looked closely, you'd see a tiny flicker of curiosity hiding in her eyes.

This guy was strange—unpredictable—and, sohow, that made him interesting.

The whole "save the beauty in danger" thing was a classic trope, sure. It showed up in tons of novels and movies. But honestly, no woman can really resist that feeling—unless her heart's completely cold, like stone.

Curiosity is often the first step when a woman starts to care. It's that small spark—the quiet, growing interest in soone else, the pull to learn more, little by little. Before feelings run deep, curiosity is what opens the door.
