"Huh? Is there sothing wrong with what I’m wearing?"
Lu Wenwu looked at his own well-fitting black Zhongshan suit, puzzled.
The Old Ghost pointed to his own white traditional funeral attire and said proudly, "First ti here, huh? Look at this on , a classic from the Qin Guang District East Street Thirteen Funeral Attire Shop, fifty-two pounds! Sure to leave a good impression on the interviewer."
"Why is that? Please enlighten , old brother."
With plenty of ti before his interview, Lu Wenwu, driven by curiosity, asked the question, wanting to know what was behind it.
He really didn’t quite get it.
When he had asked Bai Er Yi Yi what to wear to the interview, the response was— whatever, interviewers don’t really care about this stuff; if you want, you could even go naked.
When Lu Wenwu asked, the Old Ghost’s words flowed freely: "Brother, let tell you, despite years of reform in the Underworld, it’s still the old ways. Wearing modern stuff doesn’t cut it, get it? Those Ghost ssengers still recognize the old things. Dressing like this gives them a sense of familiarity, boosting your impression score with them..."
The previously tense atmosphere in the waiting room was broken by the Old Ghost’s endless chatter.
His confidence imdiately drew the attention and gaze of many ghosts.
Many ghosts nodded in agreent as he shared his interview experiences, wearing expressions of sudden understanding and an eagerness to learn.
"Sounds like it’s quite reasonable."
Listening to his detailed account of participating in the Ghost ssenger big exam, Lu Wenwu scratched his head.
"Speaking of which, old brother, you’ve really prepared a lot for this Ghost ssenger big exam, huh? Are you determined to ace it this ti?"
The Old Ghost beca even prouder: "Brother, let tell you, this is my 404th round at the Ghost ssenger big exam! I’ve prepared for a whole 66 years! I know everything about it inside and out! This ti, I’m definitely taking it, just watch!"
Just then, it was the Old Ghost’s turn.
Lu Wenwu cupped his hand in farewell: "Then I wish you the best of luck, old brother."
"Thanks for your kind words, haha!"
Amidst the envious gazes of the other ghosts, the Old Ghost walked off proudly with his chest out and head held high.
After the Old Ghost left, the room fell quiet again.
After a while, a number was called over the broadcast.
Lu Wenwu checked his number and got up to leave the waiting room, only to run into the Old Ghost he had been chatting with before in the hallway.
The Old Ghost looked nothing like his previously high-spirited self; instead, he appeared downcast, depressed, and dejected all over.
"Old brother, why the long face?" Lu Wenwu asked with concern, moving closer, "Did the interviewer give you a hard ti?"
The Old Ghost glanced at Lu Wenwu and pushed him aside, sighing deeply, "Useless, all useless...The interviewer, he’s not even human! He’s not human! It’s ridiculous!"
Watching the Old Ghost’s staggering and retreating figure, Lu Wenwu was confused.
Is the interviewer really that harsh?
How did he end up so crushed?
I need to see what this is all about today!
Reaching the interview hall, Lu Wenwu pushed the door open.
All he saw was a massive divine beast with a tiger’s head, single horn, dog’s ears, dragon’s body, lion’s tail, and qilin’s feet lying on the ground, closely resembling a Xiezhi.
At that mont, those all-seeing eyes seed to pierce through everything about him, as if to see him through completely.
Lu Wenwu: "..."
So it literally wasn’t a human!
Now he understood why Bai Er Yi Yi said it wouldn’t matter even if he went in naked.
