Lin Ye wandered through the village while listening to the sounds of insects. He occasionally crouched down to feel the vibrations. Night Inscription Village was pitch black at night, with not a single villager on the roads.
It only took half an hour for Lin Ye to find the entrance leading underground.
It was right in the courtyard of an abandoned house.
The passage appeared to have been dug out by hand, sloping downward at a forty-five degree angle. It was so narrow that only one person could crawl through.
So flesh worms erged from the passage entrance, looking utterly disgusting.
Lin Ye squeezed into the passage and wriggled forward. At first, he struggled to crawl, but after getting familiar with it for a while, he found the trick. Relying on coordination between various parts of his body, he quickly wriggled through the passage, casually crushing any approaching insects along the way.
Following the passage downward, Lin Ye soon reached the end.
There it connected to a much wider passage. From the marks on the passage walls, it was clear sothing had been moving through here regularly.
Here, Lin Ye could clearly feel vibrations around him. The tremors kept growing stronger—that thing was about to arrive.
The passage was completely dark. Lin Ye could vaguely sense sothing approaching, but he couldn't see what it was exactly.
The thing wasn't moving very fast. Lin Ye jumped into the passage and followed behind it.
'The texture feels soft, the sll... sowhat fishy, kind of like very tough at chunks.'
After following for a while, Lin Ye felt a not-very-wide gap above him. He squeezed into the gap, barely crawling for a bit before entering a cramped space less than two cubic ters.
"Who's there?"
There was another person in the space, and Lin Ye recognized her voice.
"I'm the organization's D-Class personnel Dylan. Captain Jessica brought here."
Lin Ye briefly explained his identity. If he wasn't mistaken, the person sitting across from him should be Dr. Caroline, one of the mission targets.
"Jessica ca? She shouldn't have co. Wait, Dylan? You escaped?"
Caroline exclaid in surprise.
"Yeah, but I've forgotten most mories related to this place. What exactly happened here?"
Lin Ye wanted to know how Caroline managed to survive in a place like this. It was strange.
"...I'm not too clear about the specifics either. I just know it's dangerous outside."
Caroline wasn't telling the truth, because Dylan shouldn't be appearing here alone.
"Alright, is there a glowing gap behind you? Can I go over there?"
Lin Ye didn't plan to pressure Caroline. He felt there was sothing odd about her.
"No! There's a terrifying monster over there, and many horrible things! If you go over, you won't be able to co back!"
Caroline said excitedly.
"Then co back with ? Jessica is over there. She can protect you and get you out of here."
Lin Ye wanted to hand this information source over to Jessica for handling.
"No, I can't leave this place. Otherwise, I'll be 'noticed.' You go back by yourself. Don't tell Jessica about , and it's best if you can get Jessica to leave this place as soon as possible."
Caroline refused.
"I'm going to take a look at the other side."
Lin Ye drew his pistol and approached the glowing gap, moving past Caroline.
"...You'll die."
This ti, Caroline didn't stop Lin Ye.
"I know."
Lin Ye squeezed through the gap. On the other side was a broad underground passage. On the walls of the passage grew countless dark limbs of varying thickness, all constantly wriggling.
'Sigh, I knew it would be this place.'
Lin Ye, holding his pistol, wanted to retreat back through the gap, but the gap behind him had already disappeared.
'Damn it, another restart needed.'
Lin Ye prepared to fight for his life, but after waiting a mont, he discovered those limbs weren't attacking him.
'So these monsters don't actively attack nearby creatures? No, can't be certain yet.'
Lin Ye passed through the limb-filled passage and soon found a passage leading upward.
Following the passage up, before long, Lin Ye climbed out to the surface. This place was very similar to the other side of the gap, except the village was filled with faint floating mist, and so oversized villagers lood vaguely within the fog.
Lin Ye, holding his pistol, explored this side of the village. This ti, he didn't plan to destroy those oversized villagers. He wanted to see if there was any connection between the appearance of the monster in the sky and the destruction of the oversized villagers.
But he hadn't taken more than a few steps before being surrounded by a group of villagers holding torches, their facial features distorted and askew.
These villagers seed capable of detecting and locating enemies who entered the village.
"Hello?"
Lin Ye didn't imdiately open fire. He only had twelve bullets, while there were at least twenty villagers here, with more gathering in the distance.
The villagers didn't respond or take further action. They just stared at Lin Ye, as if waiting for sothing.
In the depths of their eyes, one could see dark flesh strips constantly wriggling.
Lin Ye knew he couldn't wait any longer. Whatever they were waiting for, it wouldn't be good for him.

Large numbers of villagers chased after Lin Ye, shaking their heads as dark flesh strips grew outward from inside their skulls.
Lin Ye climbed onto a rooftop and began jumping and running across the roofs. Compared to the ground below, he was more familiar with the rooftops.
The villagers certainly didn't give up. They climbed onto the roofs one after another, charging toward Lin Ye from all directions.
Lin Ye led the villagers on a chaotic chase across the rooftops. He avoided areas with many villagers, specifically targeting positions with fewer villagers. Each ti he approached, he could eliminate one or two villagers.
He kept pulling and maneuvering the villagers like this, and before long, he had cleared out most of them, acquiring several handy weapons from the dead villagers' hands.
But after the previous maneuvering, Dylan's stamina was mostly depleted. Lin Ye could only slow his pace, resting while using the seized hunting shotgun to shoot villagers from a distance.
By now, the villagers' normal heads had disappeared, replaced by exposed brains and large numbers of swollen, enlarged dark flesh strips.
For these villagers, the vital points weren't just the stomach, but also that mass of swollen abnormal brain.
Lin Ye needed to hit both areas to completely kill a villager.
After running out of shotgun shells, Lin Ye could only continue close-quarters combat with these monstrous things. The flesh strips continuously attacked his head, trying to penetrate into his brain through any available openings.
Lin Ye had to dodge those flesh strips stabbing at him from all directions while accurately hitting the vital positions of those puffed-up brains.
