Lin Ye: You all don't need to worry too much. The difficulty of this mandatory participation event definitely won't be too high, otherwise many people would die.

"Big shot, you finally ca! I beg you for spiritual energy items!"

"Moron, guess why the big shot only arrived now."

"I traded for one item. I'm set for this event."

"Huh? You all went to trade with the big shot already?"

"Duh. At a ti like this, you still expect the big shot to post in the trading area? Of course you DM him with your offer."

"Exactly. We're about to go to the frontline, and you're still waiting for soone to hand you a gun?"

"Damn it, I was still waiting to test my hand speed..."

"Selling one spiritual energy protective item crafted by Brother Lin. Used by female owner, 100% new condition. DM with offers, highest bidder wins."

"Sa here."

"Sa here."

"Damn, you secondhand dealers are utterly shaless, really... I'm so jealous."

"I exchanged for one item. No amount of resources is more important than survival!"

"It's over, no one's selling anymore. Can't even spend money if you want to."

"I still have a few Mutation Cards and nutrient solution left, selling at premium price!"

...

Closing the group chat, Lin Ye put on his full set of equipnt and sat by the bed waiting for the countdown to end. The Jester Doll had disappeared again.

…………………

[Assigned to battlefield corresponding to combat strength, teleporting...]

[After killing ten enemies, survivors may choose to return to Shelter at any ti]

[More enemies killed equals richer rewards after event concludes]

[Acquired special skill: Trump Card]

[When the situation becos desperate, you shall beco the trump card]

[Note: The world lies beneath your feet, the stars are destined to shine]

"???"

'What kind of weird skill is this? I don't get it! Where's my god-tier movent skill?'

Lin Ye had been ready to dominate the battlefield, but now his most crucial movent skill was gone...

'I don't want desperate situations! I just want to happily farm mobs on the battlefield! I just want to jump around the battlefield, dodging left and right!'

Lin Ye sadly looked at the system notification. He tried activating the skill, but the system inford him conditions weren't t.

Before Lin Ye could recover from his disappointnt, the teleportation began.

Spiritual energy surged as dark clouds pressed low in the sky.

Lin Ye was transported to a crimson wasteland.

The wasteland stretched endlessly, eting the horizon where black faded into white.

The ground was littered with body fragnts - human, alien, but mostly various insect corpses.

A motley army was reinforcing defensive structures, and Lin Ye found himself among them.

Their mismatched outfits and equipnt weren't the only signs of disarray - most soldiers belonged to different races.

However, so human soldiers wore neat uniforms and carried standard-issue gear.

"Kid, stop spacing out! Get over here and help!" a middle-aged soldier in uniform barked at Lin Ye.

"Seriously, no idea why command sent these alien irregulars here. Should've sent support staff instead - at least they could do odd jobs," a younger uniford soldier sneered nearby.

"They're obviously cannon fodder. We need them to hold the line against those low-tier bugs," the middle-aged soldier replied matter-of-factly.

The battlefield's spiritual energy was remarkably dense. Lin Ye took a deep breath of it as he moved to help reinforce defenses.

'Shouldn't have done those cycles in the ga room. With this much spiritual energy here, the cycling speed would've been much faster.'

Lin Ye quietly listened to nearby conversations, gathering intel about the war.

Soon he gained basic understanding of this conflict.

This was the Abyss Frontline.

The Abyss periodically attracted dinsional planes to fall into it. Abyssal invasions were the first step - when enough Abyssal creatures invaded a plane, its fall beca inevitable.

Therefore, whether resisting invasion or buying ti to find another habitable plane, native species must fight the Abyssal creatures at the border between their world and the Abyss.

Such border zones were called Abyss Frontlines.

Lin Ye's unit consisted of Empire soldiers and alien irregulars - the most rag-tag forces among misfits, the weakest among weaklings.

Naturally, they only faced the Abyss's lowest-tier cannon fodder - the Abyssal insectoids, defending the frontline's edge.

Their orders were simply to buy ti - command expected nothing more.

Even if they were wiped out, it wouldn't affect the larger battle. Even if they won, it would only prolong the inevitable.

This was a war for racial and planar survival - they were expendable pawns.

Of course, none of this concerned Lin Ye. He only needed to consider how to rack up more kills.

"Incoming!" the middle-aged soldier suddenly roared.

Lin Ye looked into the distance where a black tide-line surged toward them from where earth t sky.

Defenses activated spiritual energy barriers as soldiers drew weapons.

Only when the tide drew near could Lin Ye see the Abyssal insectoids clearly.

There were many varieties: spike-shelled chitinous bugs, acid-spitting flyers, subterranean mawed worms, and rarer winged brain bugs specializing in psychic attacks.

The first wave consisted entirely of pre-tier-1 cannon fodder, shredded by ranged attacks before getting close.

Lin Ye watched enviously as alien comrades mowed down bugs with machine gun-like weapons. Lacking ranged options, he could only observe.

This didn't last. The endless swarm soon trampled over their own dead to reach defenses.

Acid mixed with spiritual energy splashed against barriers, draining their energy.

Lin Ye slashed spiritual energy blades through barrier gaps, each strike bisecting one or two bugs.

With the frontline's abundant spiritual energy, Lin Ye barely felt any drain.

Hordes of spike-shelled bugs crashed against barriers, their brown-green fluids splattering as defenses failed.

Lin Ye psychically monitored all directions - once barriers fell, brutal lee combat would begin.

In such chaos, one might die instantly to random ranged attacks.

Breathing in spiritual energy, Lin Ye maximized kills while barriers lasted, morizing each bug's weak points and attack patterns.

If ti permitted, he'd have dissected so to study their anatomy.

After one final slash, the barrier before Lin Ye flickered and vanished completely.
