[Experience Gained 2500]
[Summoned Entities: Experience Gained 1250]
Finally, he had the chance to look at the notification that had been blinking at the corner of his retina for so ti.
"I am almost halfway close to the next level," he muttered under his breath.
Seated at the edge of the so-called bed, a simple wooden fra with thin straw, he thought for a mont about his next moves.
With everything that had happened in the ruin, he had a lot to do. First, he needed to visit the hideout of the captain and Cressida.
But the most important task was to visit the Jackal Beastn chief directly.
To him, that eting was the most pressing matter. As for the Slave Trade Guild, he knew that if he did not go after them, they would surely co for him eventually.
"I guess the Slave Trade Guild must already know that their plan has failed," he grinned and rose to his feet.
Of course, he knew he had been trailed the mont he entered the town. He could see several gazes shadowing his presence from the shadows.
But he chose to ignore them completely.
His return to the Inn was a deliberate move. He wanted to give them ti, to let them make their move. Then he could catch them all in one sweeping net.
With Cressida now missing, the hideout of the Slave Trade Guild would be much more difficult to find.
More importantly, this was the territory of the Slave Trade Guild. Both the human faction and the Jackal Beastn had their support in this town.
Thus, he needed to be patient and strategic in his approach.
"With how slippery that snake truly is, it would not be surprising if she is not even in their little hideout," he mused.
He grinned and left the Inn with steady purpose.
Arriving at the lobby, the tall, unfriendly Jackal Beastman owner only looked at Thoren for a single mont before he continued his work behind the counter.
Thoren walked out of the Inn without caring about the Jackal Beastman at all. He turned his head and looked toward the inner part of the town.
His steps were steady and casual, unbothered by all the curious and hostile gazes directed at him.
As he walked deeper into the town, he noticed there were fewer humans walking freely. Most of the people in this district were Jackal Beastn.
Gradually, the number of free humans dwindled until only slaves were left walking the streets. Each human slave had a leash on their neck, with their owner walking beside them like a handler.
When the Jackal Beastn saw Thoren walking alone without a leash, they could not hide their shock. So looked at him with contempt and suspicion. So looked at him as if they were staring at a rare, foolish specin.
Yet none of them tried to stop him from walking deeper.
But the most curious ones could not help but follow him. Their actions were obvious and heavy, and their footsteps echoed loudly behind him.
They were informing Thoren that they were watching his every move.
Watching their obvious behavior, Thoren could not help but chuckle inwardly at their lack of subtlety.
Finally, he arrived at the biggest building in the inner region. The house was the only building with a protected wall surrounding it completely.
Standing at the entrance were two Jackal Beastn guards. In their hands were long spears made from the bones of unknown beasts.
A strong, intimidating aura emanated from their bodies, telling everyone to stay far away.
Yet Thoren was undeterred by this display of force.
When their fiery eyes locked on Thoren, their expressions turned grim, and they gripped their weapons tightly, ready to strike.
"Human," one of them stepped forward, raising his spear. He spoke in rough, broken human language. "Step back now."
Thoren halted his track a couple of feet from the Jackal Beastn and spoke clearly.
"Tell your chief that I have information about the jade pendant," he announced.
The Jackal Beastman did not have any change in his stern expression. His hostile gaze locked on Thoren for a long mont before he slowly withdrew his bone spear.
"Wait here," he commanded and left through the entrance gate.
Seeing this unexpected developnt, all the Jackal Beastn who had co to watch the humans be killed were stunned.
Their sharp serrated teeth were widened in shock, and their eyes were filled with disbelief.
They looked at each other and began to communicate rapidly in their guttural language.
Although Thoren could not understand their words, from their expressions he could guess what they were talking about.
Of course, they were talking about him and, more importantly, about the jade pendant that seed to be so important to their chief.
Even though they were stunned when they saw the Chief’s personal guard not attacking the human imdiately, many still refused to depart. They all wanted to see if the chief would actually grant the human an audience.
They did not have to wait for too long. The entrance gate was pushed open from inside, and the Jackal Beastman guard ca back out.
With a cold, unreadable expression, he stared at Thoren and spoke in human language.
"Co with ."
With that single word, he turned and walked back toward the building entrance gate.
Thoren was not surprised by this invitation. Without any hesitation, he followed the Jackal Beastman into the Chief’s building compound.
Inside the compound, everything was plain and blank. Except for the occasional guard he saw standing at intervals, he saw nothing else of importance.
At the center of the compound stood a larger building, and the structure was slightly more pleasing to the eyes compared to those outside the walls.
The Jackal guard led him into what looked like a reception hall. The ground was sturdy, dry, and smooth to walk on. At the other end of the hall was a small throne made of bone and leather.
Thoren stood in the center of the hall, waiting patiently. His eyes scanned the room, noting every entrance and exit.
