36: Chapter 29 Carriage (4k)_2 36: Chapter 29 Carriage (4k)_2 “Damn!”

Xia Nan felt a chill surge from his tailbone straight to his head.

He retreated sharply, and the Beheading Longsword was already horizontally before his chest.

The half-elf reacted even quicker, his silver hair flowing as he stepped back into the tall grass behind him — for a shooter whose main output thod is the bow, pulling back at the start of the battle couldn’t be more correct.

Larry’s performance was sowhat unexpected.

Though his face turned pale with fear, and even as he retreated with extre panic — nearly tripping over branches on the ground, stumbling a few steps.

He still firmly protected Doris by his side, choosing not to flee.

In the blink of an eye, the entire field was left with only Wood.

Watching that solitary figure in front of the cart, Xia Nan gritted his teeth and advanced again.

Retreating was just the first instinctive reaction driven by survival instincts.

Though he was a newcor, realizing his position in the team the next second, he advanced again.

He wouldn’t let things fall apart at such a critical mont.

The cold undulating touch of the sword hilt ca from the palm of his hand.

In his heart, he still felt bouts of numbness.

Holding the good long sword picked up from the Blacksmith Shop, with the miraculous Healing Potion in his backpack, wearing the hard and expensive leather armor.

He was physically strong.

Xia Nan was confident that even facing twenty goblins alone, he could fight back and forth among them.

But facing the black scorpions surging like a wave beneath his feet, he felt at a loss.

At this mont, Wood suddenly reached out his hand, signaling him to step back and not co over.

Then he took out a palm-sized brown crock from his waist pouch.

Threw it suddenly!

Boom—

The crock fell to the ground, shattering instantly.

A sticky, matte black liquid mixed with turbid dust splattered everywhere.

Then, ca a spark.

“Whoosh!”

A hot wave surged, and the orange-red fla was reflected in Xia Nan’s pupils.

Searing flas burst forth suddenly!

Instantly engulfing the countless scorpions along with the entire cart.

The swirling flas seed to awaken a deep fear within the bloodlines of these creatures.

The originally dense and overwhelming swarm of bugs scattered imdiately, turning into countless “tributaries,” disappearing into the surrounding bushes and grasses.

“Creak.”

The shells cracked under high heat, and the burnt, unpleasant sll filled the air.

“Where did all these scorpions co from?

Scared to death!”

Larry’s pale face was covered in cold sweat, speaking with lingering fear.

Half-elf Hai’an steadily erged from the grass, a Wooden Arrow already nocked on the bowstring, his expression grim.

Xia Nan’s heart pounded violently, and he exhaled slightly in relief.

He sheathed his sword slowly, feeling a sense of gratitude.

Luckily, there was a professional in the team who even carries this kind of firebomb with him.

Otherwise, faced with so many little bugs, he really wouldn’t know how to deal with them.

He glanced at the retreating swarm in front of him, deep in thought.

He wondered if there was a place selling such throwing tools in River Valley Town.

Once he got back, he might get a few bottles too, just in case they co in handy during future missions.

If not, he could refer to his sowhat faded mories from his past life for research, maybe he could make sothing similar:

“Bottle, alcohol, flammable fabric…

what else was there?”

Xia Nan shook his head, dispersing the gradually divergent thoughts.

He’d think about it later; now wasn’t the ti for that.

His gaze followed the flas.

Seeing the blaze, after driving away the swarm, continued to spread along the weeds on the ground, appearing to grow more intense.

The cognition from his past civilized society combined with his worldview shaped by a flood of information made him instinctively resist the forming natural disaster before him that could engulf a vast woodland.

Without much thought, he subconsciously asked:

“Isn’t this fire…

a problem?”

He was just making a casual remark, not expecting anyone else to respond.

Unexpectedly, ever since joining the team, Wood, who had always maintained a vigilant stance.

At this mont, uncharacteristically, he replied quite earnestly:

“The magic-rich environnt of Mist Forest makes it so that no normal fla can cause a major fire.”

“The current scale of this fire, although appearing to expand, will actually only burn the nearby bushes and grasses and may not even touch a tree, eventually extinguishing itself.”

Xia Nan’s proactive actions in the face of danger seed to make the guard beside the half-elf change his view a bit.

Of course, since they hadn’t been in contact for long, that was about all it amounted to.
