Now reading: Chapter 764 Acceptance (4) from God Ash: Remnants of the fallen., a Action novel by DemonsandI.

Killing is inherently a cruel act.

The action of depriving another being of life was one of the most ancient of practices, one embedded in a lack of compassion.

For one to end the life of another being, one must first feel no empathy towards it.

Then, it would be the equivalent of a mundane chore.

Cain stabbed through the chest of a High Elf and watched as it bled to death.

This was not a clone.

The Hugh Elf stared him in the face, eyes wide as it tried to curse him. However, its lungs were already filled with blood.

Still, he could see the curses in its gaze. They were even louder than words.

He let the corpse fall to the ground then spat out a mouthful of blood himself.

The golden daggers in his hands had long since turned red with blood. The sharp edge was jagged once again, so he used a bit of mana to sharpen it for what felt like the thousandth ti.

When he looked around him, there was only devastation to be seen.

It was terrible.

All the {High Elves} besides Eziel were dead. He had killed two himself, but the remaining two were unfortunate enough to be slaughtered by Evangeline like dogs even as she fought Eziel.

It had been terrible to watch.

He pursed his lips as he watched light clash with shadows in what looked like an apocalyptic battle.

The ground rumbled as Evangeline and Eziel battled across it, leaving faint afterimages behind.

The shadows all around him were like streams of black water flowing into a turbulent river around Evangeline.

Her form was difficult to see behind this river. anwhile, Eziel constantly invoked the power of life, wind and lightning elents.

Bolts of lightning ca crashing down as vines with sharp bloodsucking thorns manifested from the ground, all homing in on the lady within the shadows. Should even one reach her, she would be torn to pieces, and not even her bones would be spared.

Cain knew Evangeline was strong, but this was the first ti he had seen her go all out.

Her ability to manipulate blood and shadow elental mana was incredible, far greater than he had every seen before.

Arrows of blood rained down from the sky like hail, and a constant thick crimson fog seed to be spreading out the longer the fight went on.

The darkness of the shadows that leaked out into the world had only continued to grow.

In the end, it was as though she had summoned a shadow abomination and was now resting in its bosom as it wreaked havoc across the world.

Cain was in a dilemma.

In one hand, he wanted to help Evangeline. On the other, he really didn't think it was a wise decision.

The Evangeline of now could very well turn on him and try to attack if he interfered.

Although he didn't want to die, he also didn't want her dead either.

The wise thing to do would be to allow her battle Eziel until either one of them as defeated.

But even then, he didn't want to take that choice.

Because the enraged Eziel was like a god that had descended into the mortal world to pour down his wrath.

It was frightening to witness as nets of crackling lightning fell from the sky, destroying the terrain. Right now, they were at an impasse, but the mana reserves of elves that had lived for hundreds of years was sickeningly high.

There was absolutely no way Evangeline would outlast him.

'Damn it all!'

He walked over to Roselle who seed worse for wear. Although she wasn't physically hard, she seed rather disheveled.

"Cain..."

Cain furrowed his brows,

"How are they doing?" He asked.

She turned around. Behind her, Susan still sat with her hands to Jenny's chest, sweat flowing down her forehead.

Jenny lay there like a porcelain doll, her breathing weak and faint.

Susan had managed to keep her alive for so long, but there was only so much she could do.

"She's holding on, but barely. Susan said she needs blood."

Cain nodded then squatted beside Susan. Then he stretched a hand out.

Susan gently opened her eyes. Seeing this, Cain gave her a smile,

"Don't worry. She'll be alright."

Susan pursed her lips. Looking down at Jenny's pale face, she wondered.

'If she dies, will it be my fault?'

If she was more capable, then perhaps she could save her life. Unfortunately, her power was one of healing, not miracles. She couldn't use light to manifest blood into soone's veins. The necessary equipnt for a blood transfusion couldn't be just willed into existence.

In the end, she was stuck. And there was not much she could do about it.

She turned to Cain,

"Do you think miracles exist?"

Cain paused for a brief mont, then smiled wryly,

"Of course they do."

Then he grinned at her,

"Don't go asking unnecessary questions now. I need your help, Susan. Keep her alive for ."

Susan shook her head,

"This is the most I can do, Cain. She's slipping. I can't do anything."

Cain shook his head,

"No. No, you can. I know you can."

Susan's eyes widened. She stared at Cajn's face. There was no judgent, neither was there any disappointnt or doubt.

He truly believed what he said.

She frowned, and raised her voice,

"Why?! How can you have such blind confidence in ?!"

Cain went silent.

Indeed, that was a good question.

He didn't have to think about it long though.

"I just do."

Then he closed his eyes to concentrate.

'Just like before...'

The errant motes of crimson blood elental mana in the air were like uncountable. They seeped into the ground and rose into the sky as well.

It was all around him.

Which ant he has plenty of it to work with.

'She needs blood, huh...'

{Blood Regeneration} was an incredible skill he had created in the past.

It took advantage of his ability to see the mana flow patterns and gravitated them into linear streams that could then be directed into a body and manifest as actual blood.

It also had healing properties, as it could speed up the growth of cells and repair torn tissue. It could even grow bones.

It was truly... a miracle.

Cain activated {Blood Regeneration}, pulling in as much blood elental mana as he could and transferring it into Jenny's body.

Very quickly, her pale color began to change and her cheeks beca rosy again.

Susan left out a sigh of relief.

"Her condition is stabilizing."

Roselle collapsed to the ground and let out a relieved sigh,

"Thank goodness."

Then she turned to Cain,

"What was that just now?"

Cain shrugged and rise to his feet,

"An ability of mine. I can't use it very frequently though."

"Is that so..." Roselle said, but didn't push on it further.

Susan finally deactivated her spell. She turned to Cain and spoke in a tired voice,

"She should be alright. She's just unconscious for now."

Cain nodded, "Then you should get so rest as well."

Susan shook her head,

"I can't. There's still that guy to take care of. And there's Eva..."

Cain snorted, "You don't need to worry about that. We'll take care of it. You are our only healer. If you suffer from mana exhaustion, or worse, then we'll be in really big trouble. Get so rest."

Just as he said that, her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she fell to the ground.

He blinked.

Roselle couldn't help but chuckle,

"I guess she really was exhausted."

Cain sighed.

He was exhausted too.

The battle was not over yet."

There was a thud nearby.

He looked. Roselle let out a gasp.

It was a head.

The head of Eziel, his eyes still wide open, horror and regret etched into the depths of his pupils.

Seeing that, Cain didn't feel relieved. Not at all...

"Shit."
