Now reading: Chapter 941: Where is the Sun? (1) from God Ash: Remnants of the fallen., a Action novel by DemonsandI.

Six months went by in the blink of an eye...

Sitting behind a table, Cain glanced outside the window beside him absentmindedly.

Soft streaks of faint sunlight poured down the window and into the room, providing illumination to the otherwise bleak setting.

He was in a small room no bigger than seventy square feet on size.

There was a normal wooden chair and desk, most likely scavenged from the ruins and pieced back together using magic.

Behind him was a strange-looking arch covered in archaic runes and glyphs.

Other than that, the room looked rather normal.

The painting that once decorated the walls had beco faded, adding even more dreariness to the atmosphere.

Cain let out a sigh.

Rebuilding had not been easy.

After the battle was over, there had been a lot to do.

Although the outco of the battle had been a huge win for the entirety of the humans within the City of Zoan, it did not magically remove the bad blood between certain groups.

The Blood Moons Sect had their Matriarch MIA. Not a single one of the survivors knew where she was, of she was dead or alive, or how to track her.

There has been no body, nothing at all.

So there was still a seed of hope in the hearts of so.

However, most seed to have given up and were now focused on strengthening the Blood Moon Sect. When it ca to overall power, they still had the greatest military might in the city.

If they wanted, they had the numbers and resources to absorb the combination of the Pilgrim’s and the Warriors of the Hearth.

However, there was a certain sothing, or rather, soone, stopping them from doing that.

After all, the final monts of the battle had been witnessed by several people.

The rumors were spread in all the camps and tents.

Of a world-devouring dragon that tore apart the leader of the Devils, the catalyst that brought about the end of the war.

While the Blood Moon Sect focused on strengthening and expanding their area of influence, the inhabitants of Valestorm had begun rebuilding and expanding.

With the nature of the world around them changing, the humans seed to be evolving alongside it.

As the world expanded, and with the aid of magic, it beca easier to process several raw materials that would have taken longer and more complicated procedures to acquire.

The stone, sand, and other materials were easy to procure, but acquiring them was made even easier with the help of magic.

In just six months, Valestorm had transford into a rather bustling city within a city.

It had also expanded by several tis, its borders eating deep into the territory that had once been the Sandsea.

Cain let out a sigh as he glanced at the piles of paper in front of him.

His brows trembled as he froze for a mont then pinched the bridge of his nose.

There were so many things he didn’t know about running a city, or a large group of people for that matter.

For one, there were several elents of living he could overlook if it was just himself and a party.

However, when it ca down to managing a large congregation, they were crucial aspects.

First was the water distribution system within the city.

Water was a the most important resource. It kept everyone alive, after all.

Although a lot of humans had died during the battle, most of those that had died were Pilgrims, Hunters, Lightslayers, and Beastn Warriors.

In other words, most of the people living in Valestorm were normal humans, just trying to survive another day in this broken world.

As he had suspected, making use of mana shards just to produce water was rather wasteful. Perhaps it was good as a temporary solution, but in the long run, it was a bad idea.

In the end, after combining minds and effort with Steve and a few of the talented Craftsn of Mljorra, they had found a way to absorb and turn the moisture in the air into drinkable water.

They had also tried to do the sa with water right from the ocean using a tunneling hole Pudding had dug out.

However, that had quickly ended in disaster when a swarm of man-eating fish had tried to make their way into the city through the pipes.

Luckily, the catastrophe had been averted before it beca much of an issue.

So they had settled to rely on the {Sky Aqueducts} for the anti. The feat of magical engineering was a rather good idea so it would handle their need of water for the anti.

Then, there was the issue with food.

Thanks to the existence of Redscale Island as well as the {Spatial Gate} and its anchor, Hunting teams could make their way to and from Redscale.

On the large island, not only was there a lot of wild Mutant Beast ga, there were also lots of wild edibles plants, herbs, and fruits waiting to be harvested.

Although there were more poisonous and toxic plants than there were edible ones, with the right knowledge, it wouldn’t take much to avoid the dangerous ones.

And then, finally, there was the issue of security.

With most of their Hunters and Pilgrims dead, Valestorm was experiencing a severe shortage of manpower.

Unlike kn Redscale where it was relatively easy to find less aggressive Mutant Beasts for food, the Aether Beasts were constantly aggressive creatures.

And with several nests of Aether Beasts making the area surrounding the small city within a city their ho, it was rather troubleso...

They experienced at least two raids every week from nests of Aether Beasts.

And from the figures he was seeing, the nasty things were only growing stronger in both ability and numbers.

Cain clicked his tongue in annoyance as he flipped through the pages of a particular folder of papers.

There were magic wards outside Valestorm’s "walls" so they could easily detect the beast’s before they attacked, which had saved their lot of headaches in the past few months.

Overall, although things seed rough, it wasn’t so bad after all.

He groaned and stretched his arms.

His body shuddered and tears appeared at the corners of his eyes as he let out a yawn.

Suddenly, a knock ca from the door.

Cain froze and furrowed his brows,

’I wonder who it could be...’

The door knob slowly twisted. Then the door swung open.
