Chapter 633: 703
Fang Yi wore a look of bemusent on his face, “Why would you bring along on your trip?”
Cai Qin said, “What’s wrong? Isn’t it a pleasure to travel with a great beauty like ?”
“Er…” Facing Cai Qin’s teasing smile, Fang Yi waved his hands and said, “Fine, it seems I have no choice but to go. When do we leave?”
“We set off early tomorrow morning. I’ll co to pick you up,” said Cai Qin before she left.
Fang Yi mused for a mont, then dialed Zhao Guosheng’s number, but his phone was turned off.
Fang Yi laughed, talking to himself, “Heh, to think a simple trip could be shrouded in such mystery. I’m really curious what you’re hiding.”
The next morning, bright and early, Fang Yi took his backpack and left the house.
Arriving downstairs, he saw a black rcedes SUV parked there. The window rolled down, and Cai Qin beckoned to him from the driver’s seat.
Winter had set in these past few days, and it had beco cold. Fang Yi got into the passenger seat, closed the door, and the window went back up, imdiately warming the car with its heater.
Turning to look at Cai Qin, he noticed she was wearing a black thermal jacket. Fang Yi couldn’t help but ask, “Does this trip include mountain climbing?”
“Mhm.”
Cai Qin started the car and drove out of the residential area.
Once out of the urban area, Cai Qin sped up. Out of the corner of his eye, Fang Yi noticed many outdoor survival items in the back of the car.
Fang Yi turned off the car’s air conditioning, rolled down the window, and lit a cigarette, casually saying, “Not bad at all. An automatic tent, cold-weather down jacket, ergency dical supplies, canned beef… tsch, Miss Cai Qin, may I ask, are you preparing all this to emulate Bear Grylls?”
“Right, I plan to survive in the wilderness for a week, so I’ve prepared these things,” Cai Qin said blankly.
“I thought we were just going on for a trip. How did it turn into wilderness survival?” Fang Yi said with a smile, noting how calmly the woman could lie.
“Don’t ask too many questions. You’ll see when we get there,” Cai Qin replied.
Fang Yi nodded his head, deciding not to inquire further.
Leaving the city behind, Cai Qin really put the pedal to the tal, and they zipped along.
As dawn broke, Fang Yi kept the window open, letting the cold wind slap his face. Inadvertently, he glanced in the rearview mirror and saw a silver Kia following them.
“It seems we are being followed,” Fang Yi remarked lightly.
“With you here, anyone who tries to follow us is on a dead-end path, right?” Cai Qin focused on driving.
“Don’t make out to be so ferocious. I’m actually quite gentle,” Fang Yi said.
“Really?” Cai Qin retorted, clearly unconvinced.
After about an hour, they were completely beyond Moon City. Cai Qin didn’t take the highway but instead chose a fast road that allowed for a quick departure from the path. The area had gradually beco more remote, with high mountains all around, lush and richly green. Due to the winter season, the sky was overcast.
Soon after, Cai Qin turned onto a concrete road and then continued along this narrow path, just wide enough for a vehicle, where passing was impossible due to the surrounding high, craggy terrain and plentiful sharp bends.
Ti passed, and the SUV turned onto a muddy track flanked by ancient, verdant trees; they were now far from the hustle and bustle, engulfed by the wilderness.
Fang Yi restrained his curiosity and kept silent. Before long, an outdoor campsite ca into view.
There were two or three tents set up at the site. As they arrived, people erged from the tents, a line of five or six n and won forming up as if to welco them.
The SUV stopped, Cai Qin got out of the car, and the six people saluted and shouted in unison, “Hello, team leader!”
Cai Qin waved her hand and pointed to Fang Yi, who was getting out of the car, “This is my assistant, his na is Fang Yi.”
“Hello, everyone,” Fang Yi greeted.
The six people also greeted him and, after the pleasantries, Cai Qin told them to go about their duties. After a mont, a middle-aged man in a white lab coat and gloves approached.
The middle-aged man, wearing gold-rimd glasses and a smile on his face, said, “Team Leader Cai.”
Cai Qin said, “Keith, you are just in ti. Let introduce you, this is my assistant Fang Yi.”
“Hello, hello, my na is Luo Keith, I’m a biologist and friends with Cai Qin, please do guide in the future.” The middle-aged man smiled as he extended his hand.
“Please guide as well,” Fang Yi reached out his hand too.
After they shook hands, Cai Qin told Luo Keith to get back to his work, then she turned to Fang Yi, “I know you must have many questions right now, feel free to ask them all.”
Fang Yi smiled slightly and said, “You’re the leader, and they are your team mbers. You didn’t co to this remote forest for a vacation, you’re here because of that Biological Research Institute, right?”
“It seems Uncle Zhao has already shown you the top-secret file.”
Fang Yi nodded.
Cai Qin said, “That Biological Research Institute is located in this mountain forest, it’s a matter of national secrecy. Uncle Zhao doesn’t feel reassured, so he established this top-secret group and appointed as the leader to co here for investigation.”
Fang Yi said, “But this investigation won’t be easy.”
Cai Qin’s expression was somber as she said, “Yes, that’s correct. The origins of this Biological Research Institute are very mysterious and might relate to national secrets, so there’s danger involved.”
“You still ca despite the danger?”
“As a mber of the Dragon Team, it’s my duty.”
Indeed, she’s stubborn.
Fang Yi knew that the Dragon Team was the most mysterious and powerful organization within Moon City. With the Biological Research Institute being a national secret and an explosion having occurred, not to ntion the many humanoid monsters inside, it was natural for the Dragon Team to deal with it.
Ordinary people live in relatively safe environnts, blissfully unaware that there’s a group of people like this protecting their safety from the shadows.
At noon, a bespectacled man set up a pot to cook frozen food, but Fang Yi wasn’t keen on canned fare, so he wandered nearby, caught a few wild rabbits, and brought them back.
He skinned and gutted them, and Fang Yi started to roast the rabbits, soon a fragrant sll wafted through the air.
“I didn’t realize you were good at this too,” Cai Qin ca over.
“I can grace the halls, man the kitchen, barbecue in the wild; I am a rare breed of good man. Here, have one,” Fang Yi handed her a roasted rabbit.
Cai Qin didn’t hesitate to take it. The others looked on with envy as one girl quickly ran over and said, “Big Brother Fang, it slls so good, could I possibly…”
“Of course, you can. Here, Xia Ya, take this,” Fang Yi said with a smile as he used his dagger to cut half for the girl.
Then the rest of the people gathered around, except for one man who did not co over. Behind his shortsighted glasses, his eyes looked sowhat sinister at Fang Yi; he was a student of Luo Keith.
Xia Ya, holding half a roasted rabbit, sat down beside him and asked, “Wu Tian, why don’t you co over?”
With disdain, Wu Tian said, “It’s just roasted rabbit. Look how you all drool over it. Ridiculous!”
After speaking, Wu Tian focused on stirring the frozen food in the pot with a spatula, showing utter contempt for the roasted rabbit.
