Chapter 27: Only One Bed
The lobby of the bus station guesthouse was filled with the sll of instant noodles and damp mildew.
The Fat Big Sister at the front desk was yelling impatiently into the phone: "None left, none left! I told you, none left! That was the last room! Even the President wouldn't get a room!"
With a snap, she hung up the phone, turned around, and looked at the four young people in front of her whose looks far exceeded the norm but were covered in snow and wind. Her eyes held a bit more sympathy, but even more, they held the gossipy curiosity of a spectator.
"Here, the key." The Fat Big Sister tossed a key hanging from a red plastic tag onto the counter. "302. Let's get the ugly truth out of the way first. This was converted from a twin room into a king room, so it's small to begin with. The four of you... squeeze in and make do. It's better than sleeping on the floor in the lobby."
Chen Man looked at the key and swallowed hard: "Brother, are you sure it's only one bed?"
"Sure and absolutely certain." Jiang Chen picked up the key and spread his hands helplessly. "Besides, I just paid triple the price to snatch this from a scalper. Right now, even a seat at the internet cafe in this town costs two hundred yuan."
Qing Ge pushed up her glasses, regaining her composure: "It's good enough that we have a place to stay. Let's go."
She led the way toward the stairs. Although her leg was still limping slightly, her back was held perfectly straight, as if she wasn't heading to a shabby guesthouse but the presidential suite of a five-star hotel.
The hallway was dimly lit, the wall paint was peeling, and walking created echoes.
Jiang Chen walked last, carrying all the luggage. Lin Wan deliberately slowed her pace to wait for him.
"Little Jiang." Lin Wan lowered her voice, a trace of nervousness only won understood, mixed with... anticipation, "Are you sure there's only one room?"
"There's really only one room." Jiang Chen looked at her, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "Sister Wan, are you thinking of so R-rated scenes?"
Lin Wan's face flushed red, and she pinched him lightly in mock anger. "Nonsense... I'm just worried Sister Su and Manman aren't used to it."
"In special circumstances, we handle things specially," Jiang Chen said aningfully. "Besides... if everyone squeezes together, won't it be warr?"
They arrived at the door of 302.
Jiang Chen inserted the key and turned it. The sound of the old lock cylinder turning was exceptionally clear in the quiet corridor.
The door opened.
The three won stood at the doorway and simultaneously gasped.
The room was indeed small.
It was only about fifteen square ters.
One king-sized bed, estimated to be 1.8 ters wide, occupied almost two-thirds of the room. The remaining space was barely enough to place a few pieces of luggage and turn around.
The only advantage was that the heating was very strong.
That long-lost wave of heat washed over them, instantly making them feel like they had returned to the human world.
"This..." Chen Man pointed at the bed, her voice slightly shaky. "This bed is big, but sleeping four people... isn't that a bit too much?"
Qing Ge didn't speak. She walked straight in, took off her heavy trench coat, and kicked off her high heels.
She relaxed completely, collapsing onto the edge of the bed, rubbing her ankle.
"How do we sleep?" Qing Ge looked up, her eyes fixed directly on Jiang Chen, as if waiting for a distribution plan. "We can't have you sleeping on the floor, right? There's no space on the floor either."
Indeed, there was no space.
The floor was piled high with luggage, barely leaving room to stand.
Jiang Chen closed the door, shutting out the noise of the outside world.
The room imdiately beca quiet, so silent they could hear each other's breathing. The air rapidly ward, and ambiguous elents grew wildly in the confined space.
"I can make do on the chair for the night," Jiang Chen pointed to the only broken wooden chair in the corner.
"No." The three won spoke almost in unison.
Chen Man was the first to jump out: "Is that a place for a person to sleep? You carried luggage and people today; even an iron body can't handle it."
Lin Wan also beca anxious: "Exactly, Little Jiang, you must sleep on the bed. Otherwise... otherwise, I'll sleep on the chair."
"Sister Wan, your back isn't good, don't force yourself," Jiang Chen interrupted her.
Qing Ge suddenly stood up, walked to the bedside, and pressed the mattress.
"This bed is big enough." Her voice was cold, but her earlobes were bright red. "If we sleep sideways, it can fit everyone."
Sleep sideways?
Chen Man's eyes lit up. Unsure what she was thinking, she chuckled, "CEO Su is brilliant! Sleeping sideways really works. It's just... who sleeps next to whom is the problem."
This was a fatal question.
Four people, how to arrange them?
If it were normal tis, this would never happen.
But now, after sharing hardships along the way, coupled with that sense of apocalypse from being sealed in by heavy snow, their bottom lines seed to be quietly receding.
"I'll sleep on the edge," Lin Wan voluntarily raised her hand, her voice soft and weak. "I sleep soundly and don't take up much space."
"Then I'll sleep on the other side," Chen Man imdiately seized the advantageous terrain on the other side. "I'm also afraid of falling off."
Thus, two spots were left open in the middle.
One was for Qing Ge.
One was for Jiang Chen.
Qing Ge looked at the empty stretch of sheets, her expression incredibly complex.
She, the dignified, dominant female CEO, was going to sleep next to a younger man she had only known for a day?
"Um..." Jiang Chen rubbed his nose, feeling that pretending to be a gentleman now would be too fake. "How about I sleep on the very edge, to block so wind for Sister Su?"
"No need," Qing Ge suddenly spoke, her voice carrying a tone of desperate resolution. "We'll sleep like this. I'll sleep on the inside, and you... you sleep between and Lin Wan."
Lin Wan suddenly looked up, glanced at Qing Ge, then at Jiang Chen, a flash of surprise in her eyes, which quickly turned into a knowing smile.
Was Qing Ge... making the move?
"Well, everyone is sweaty," Jiang Chen felt his throat go a little dry. Was the heating in this room turned up too high? "How about... we take a shower first?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, the gazes of the three won simultaneously fixed on the frosted glass door.
The bathroom was right next to the bed.
Although the glass wasn't transparent, it let light through.
The light inside was on, and the silhouettes of people could be clearly seen from the outside.
"Who first?" Chen Man licked her lips, her eyes circling Jiang Chen once before finally settling on Qing Ge. "CEO Su, please go first?"
Qing Ge took a deep breath and grabbed her toiletries bag. "I'll go first."
She walked into the bathroom, and the lock clicked shut.
A few seconds later, the sound of water started up.
The splashing sound was infinitely magnified in the quiet room.
On the frosted glass, a graceful silhouette soon appeared.
Qing Ge was taking off her clothes.
First the blouse, then the skirt... finally, those long legs were lifted, seemingly taking off a thin layer of silk stockings.
Jiang Chen sat on the chair, holding a bottle of mineral water, but he couldn't twist the cap open.
Chen Man leaned over, ignoring that Lin Wan was watching nearby. Her entire body was almost pressed against Jiang Chen, breathing softly into his ear:
"Brother, is it nice to look at?"
Her hand quietly rested on Jiang Chen's thigh, her fingertips drawing circles there.
"This is nothing yet... later, Sister will show you sothing even better to look at."
Jiang Chen tensed up, and the mineral water bottle in his hand creaked under the pressure.
After a while.
The small room started to beco overwhelmingly hot.
The sll, a mixture of damp mildew and cheap air freshener, wasn't pleasant, but for people who had just narrowly escaped death in the icy wilderness, this was already heaven.
Jiang Chen sat on that only wooden chair, his gaze fixed on the bathroom door glowing with orange light.
The figure inside shifted, the sound of water splashed—every sound seed to be striking the man's nerves.
"Ding!"
The familiar chanical voice in his mind sounded at the appropriate ti, breaking Jiang Chen's reverie.
【Godly Tycoon Cash-Back System has issued a mission!】
【Mission Description: As a Godly Tycoon, even when staying in a humble room, one cannot let down the beauties around him. This guesthouse's conditions are rudintary and chilling. The Host must imdiately improve the room's comfort level to let the three ladies feel warmth like spring.】
【Mission Requirent: Spending amount must not be less than 5000 Yuan. Ti limit: 1 hour.】
【Mission Reward: Due to the increase in favorability, this ti it is a random multiplier cash-back.】
Jiang Chen raised an eyebrow.
Five thousand yuan? At a remote station guesthouse where there might not even be a small convenience store?
Did this system want him to buy the guesthouse?
"What's wrong, Brother? Your brow is furrowed like a little old man." Chen Man had approached soti earlier. Having just taken off her coat, she was only wearing a tight base shirt with a sowhat low neckline. That scent of perfu drifted straight into Jiang Chen's nose.
She held half a bottle of mineral water, her eyes playfully fixed on Jiang Chen.
"Nothing." Jiang Chen stood up, picked up the scarf hanging on the clothes rack, "I'm going out for a bit."
"Why are you going out in this heavy snow?" Lin Wan, who was tidying luggage, looked up when she heard him, her face full of worry. "That Fat Big Sister outside said the temperature will drop again tonight, down to minus twenty degrees."
"There's only one blanket in this room, not enough to cover us," Jiang Chen pointed to the pitifully thin printed quilt on the king bed. "And this radiator isn't hot either. If the heat cuts off in the middle of the night, the four of us will freeze into popsicles. I'm going to see if I can get so gear back."
"Get gear?" Chen Man laughed. "In this desolate place, what can you possibly get? Do magic?"
"A capable person has their own thods." Jiang Chen gave a mysterious smile, grabbed his wallet, and pushed the door open to leave.
The wind in the corridor was indeed harsh.
Jiang Chen wrapped his collar tightly and went straight downstairs.
