Now reading: Chapter 234 234: You Should Call Me Sensei's Wife~ from Gourmet: Cooking for the Multiverse, a Adventure novel by AkarinTL.

The cool evening breeze swept through the quiet streets, carrying with it a faint, almost imperceptible trace of legendary culinary aromas. A young man stood outside the warm, glowing exterior of the restaurant, his hand hovering hesitantly over the polished brass doorknob.

He took a deep, shuddering breath, his pristine white Totsuki Academy uniform rustling softly in the wind. As the 1st Seat of the Elite Ten, he was used to pressure, but the rumors surrounding this specific establishnt had completely tied his stomach in nervous knots.

He finally pushed the door open. The cheerful chi of the entrance bell echoed through the cozy dining room.

A young man walked in. Already a bit nervous, he beca even more rigid at the door after hearing Courage and the others' lively voices ringing out.

"At a loss" perfectly described him at that exact mont. He stood completely frozen, his eyes widening as he took in the sheer, overwhelming presence of the individuals occupying the tables.

Ren turned his head from behind the cooking counter, paused his prep work, and then smiled warmly.

"I really didn't expect it would be you who ca tonight," Ren said casually, wiping his damp hands on a clean cotton towel. "It seems I truly have a fated connection with your school."

Lucifer and the other won all paused their conversations and looked over toward the entrance. They saw a highly anxious, white-haired young man standing rigidly at the door.

Although the young man looked exceptionally delicate, handso, and carried an air of refined elegance, he seed a bit... downtrodden. His shoulders were slumped, his posture was defensive, and his pale eyes darted around the room like a frightened rabbit realizing it had just stumbled into a den of resting lionesses.

Lucifer tilted her head, her elegant silver hair cascading over her tailored crimson suit.

"Huh? You look familiar~" Lucifer noted, her ruby-red eyes narrowing playfully as she scrutinized his trembling form.

The young man at the door swallowed hard, his voice shaking as he quickly executed a flawless, 90-degree bow of absolute respect.

"Good evening, Sensei's Wife Lucifer..."

Upon hearing the highly traditional, subservient term "Sensei's Wife," Lucifer's pale face instantly flushed a brilliant, burning shade of red. Her usual demonic composure utterly shattered, leaving her stamring in a rare state of flustered panic.

Kirari, sitting across the table with her iconic twin braids resting over her shoulders, smiled sweetly. Her icy blue eyes glead with predatory amusent as she leaned forward.

"Oh? 'Sensei's Wife Lucifer' seems very impressive," Kirari teased softly, resting her chin on her intertwined fingers.

Courage, on the other hand, looked at Lucifer with sparkling admiration, clearly enjoying the sudden shift in the Underworld Queen's deanor. Lucifer quickly shook her head, slapping her cheeks lightly to clear her embarrassnt before thinking for a mont.

"Ah! I rember you now!" Lucifer exclaid, snapping her fingers as the mory clicked into place. "You're the 1st Seat of the Elite Ten Council over at Totsuki. I think your na is... Eishi Tsukasa?"

Eishi Tsukasa nodded repeatedly, his silver hair bouncing frantically with the motion. Ren chuckled softly at the highly entertaining interaction, leaning his elbows against the wooden counter.

"How exactly did you know about this place?" Ren asked gently, trying to ease the boy's visible tension.

Eishi Tsukasa stood up straight, though he spoke rather reservedly, his fingers nervously fidgeting with the golden buttons of his cuffs.

"Well... because I noticed that Nakiri Erina and the others seed to co here quite often after classes." Eishi hesitated for a fraction of a second, his eyes darting to the floor. "Today, I passed by Kuga-san's Chinese Cuisine Research Club and saw him talking to a Hojo-san about sothing very intense..."

"And then?" Ren prompted, pouring a glass of iced lemon water and sliding it invitingly across the counter.

"Then I just observed quietly from the side of the hallway," Eishi admitted, his tone dropping into a hushed, analytical whisper. "But I clearly heard Hojo-san say, 'Today I went to Shopkeeper Ren's Restaurant and learned what true culinary mastery is, so I'm not interested in arguing with you anymore,' or sothing very close to that..."

Ren nodded slowly, a knowing smile forming on his lips as he pictured the fiery dynamic between the 2 ambitious chefs.

"Oh~ So you asked Miyoko for the exact location of my Restaurant?" Ren deduced easily. "But why were you just observing there in secret?"

Eishi Tsukasa nodded again, his pale cheeks tinting with a highly awkward, embarrassed flush.

"Actually, I wanted to step in, say a few words, and perhaps ask about the techniques she had supposedly learned..." Eishi sighed softly, rubbing the back of his neck. "But they were arguing far too fiercely, their auras clashing so violently that I simply didn't say anything..."

Courage looked at Eishi Tsukasa's timid, socially awkward appearance, utterly fascinated by the stark contrast between his personality and his reputation. She paused, tapping her manicured finger against her chin, and then tentatively spoke up.

"Eishi Tsukasa... Eishi Tsukasa of the Totsuki Culinary Academy?" Courage asked, her tone shifting into one of professional curiosity. "Is that the renowned genius known as the 'White Knight of the Table'?"

[Akarin's Note: Eishi Tsukasa is a major character from Food Wars! (Shokugeki no Soma). He is the 1st Seat of the Elite Ten Council, known as the 'White Knight of the Table' (Schwertleite) due to his absolute dedication to bringing out the pure, unadulterated essence of his ingredients, completely erasing his own 'ego' from the dish.]

Ren smiled, raising an eyebrow in genuine surprise as he looked at the trembling teenager.

"I didn't realize you had such a grand, imposing title, Student Tsukasa~" Ren teased lightly.

Eishi Tsukasa quickly waved his hands back and forth in a sheer panic, completely overwheld by the sudden spotlight.

"Teacher Ren, please, my ager achievents are absolutely nothing!" Eishi pleaded, his eyes wide with desperate sincerity. "Compared to Teacher Ren's absolute, unfathomable strength in the kitchen, I am still far, far behind. I heard that Teacher Ren, you..."

"Stop right there, Student Tsukasa," Ren interrupted, his voice carrying a gentle but undeniably firm weight. "You need to understand a fundantal truth. I am not your teacher."

Eishi froze, blinking rapidly in confusion.

"Although I taught your class for 1 day, substituting for the curriculum, I am still not a formal educator," Ren explained warmly, untying and retying his apron. "So that heavy title is not suitable for at all. I am just a simple Restaurant owner serving hungry custors~"

Eishi Tsukasa thought for a mont, his brow furrowing in deep, obsessive concentration.

"Then... Shopkeeper Ren," Eishi corrected himself, though his tone remained utterly respectful and reverent. "I heard dark rumors whispering that Shopkeeper Ren's Restaurant is actually run by a legendary Midnight Chef, soone operating outside the boundaries of traditional light... so that's why I ca at this late ti..."

Ren nodded in understanding, recognizing the desperate hunger for culinary perfection burning deep within Eishi's eyes.

"It seems you also have so pressing questions weighing on your mind?" Ren asked.

"Yes, that's exactly right, because that specific dish you demonstrated..." Eishi urged, stepping closer to the counter, his shyness montarily eclipsed by his passion for cooking.

Ren waved his hand casually, cutting off the impending barrage of highly technical questions.

"Student Tsukasa! Although I am not your official teacher, I have still taught your class," Ren stated smoothly. "Do you rember the core philosophy of what I said that day?"

Eishi's mouth clicked shut as his incredibly sharp mory replayed the lecture.

"If you want to ask questions directly, it's really not very useful in the long run," Ren recited, his eyes locking onto Eishi's. "You should first look at the answer presented on the plate, ponder it with your own senses, and then ask what you still don't understand. Your own practical understanding is far more useful than soone else's verbal explanation~"

Ren gestured openly toward an empty, comfortable stool situated right at the corner of the bar.

"Also, don't be so stiff and nervous. Just sit down and treat this as a normal, relaxing al," Ren advised kindly.

"And Lucifer and the others are very friendly girls. They shouldn't bite."

Ren deliberately cast a highly suspicious, lingering side-eye toward the silver-haired gambler sitting at the corner booth.

"They should be friendly, anyway~" Ren muttered under his breath.

Kirari scoffed softly, her icy blue eyes curving into gorgeous, dangerous crescents.

"Ren~ Why did you look directly at when you said that?" Kirari asked exasperatedly, though a playful smirk tugged at the corner of her blue-tinted lips.

Ren purposefully did not answer the question, rely whistling a tuneless, innocent lody as he turned away. Kirari also rolled her eyes at Ren, thoroughly amused by his blatant cheek, and continued to elegantly drink her rich coconut chicken soup.

Eishi Tsukasa nodded slowly, letting out a long, shuddering breath as he ticulously wiped down the counter space before taking his seat.

"Shopkeeper Ren, then I'll order a Tom Yum soup, a white sausage, French toast, and a lemon tart..." Eishi listed off rapidly.

Ren smiled brightly, instantly recognizing the incredibly complex, borderline chaotic flavor profile Eishi was actively trying to test him with. It was an eclectic clash of Thai acidity, German savory fats, French sweetness, and a vibrant citrus finish.

"That's a pretty good, challenging combination," Ren praised. "Does the white sausage need to be plated with anything specific?"

"Uh... Black pepper steak, I guess~" Eishi mumbled, rubbing his arms nervously.

Ren nodded approvingly, pulling a fresh, heavy cast-iron skillet from the overhead rack.

"It seems Student Tsukasa, you truly live up to your prestigious chef's identity; you definitely know how to eat well~" Ren complinted. "And for a drink?"

"Soda water will do perfectly... I'd like it iced, if possible," Eishi requested politely.

Ren smiled inwardly at the highly educated beverage choice. He knew perfectly well that one should never eat heavy, acidic seafood dishes with sweet fruit juices or heavy milk.

The volatile chemical combination of citrus acids, dense dairy proteins, and seafood could curdle in the stomach and cause severe indigestion. Pure, iced soda water was the absolute perfect, neutral palate cleanser for such an aggressive tasting nu.

"Of course~" Ren replied cheerfully.

After Ren finished speaking, he turned sharply on his heel and walked with absolute purpose towards the kitchen. Eishi Tsukasa sat down reservedly on the side, gripping his knees tightly. He didn't dare to look over at Lucifer and the others, instead just looking intensely around Ren's Restaurant, analyzing the spotless equipnt and the pristine flow of the cooking stations.

However, just because he didn't look directly at Lucifer and the others didn't an they weren't paying close attention to Eishi Tsukasa.

While Ren vanished behind the subtle curtain of steam rising from the prep area, the dining room atmosphere grew tangibly heavy. Kirari rested her delicate elbows on the wooden table, her piercing sapphire gaze entirely locked onto the trembling Totsuki genius. She smiled sweetly, revealing a tantalizing glimpse of her perfectly straight, pearlescent teeth.

"You're Eishi Tsukasa?" Kirari asked, her voice dropping into a silky, resonant purr.

Eishi Tsukasa violently shivered, his spine stiffening completely as he nodded rigidly. Eishi Tsukasa was originally a bit introverted, highly anxious, and incredibly shy around dominant personalities.

And Momobami Kirari was a bona fide, apex queen of the gambling underworld. The subtle, terrifying aura of a high-ranking predator effortlessly bled into the air around her, making Eishi Tsukasa feel as though an invisible, crushing weight was pressing against his throat.

Kirari gracefully propped her face on her palms, her eyes gleaming with dark, srizing mischief.

"Don't be nervous," Kirari cooed in a dangerously soft, comforting whisper. "I'm simply introducing myself to one of Ren's cute little students."

"Huh?" Eishi squeaked, entirely out of his depth in this psychological warfare.

"My na is Momobami Kirari~" she announced softly, letting the sheer, terrifying weight of her prestigious clan na hang heavy in the quiet air.

Eishi swallowed hard, recognizing the aristocratic grace and the absolute authority dripping from her every syllable.

"Oh... Miss Momobami, you..." Eishi stamred respectfully.

Kirari's smile widened into sothing dangerously playful, her eyes locking onto his soul.

"You should call Sensei's Wife~"

Eishi Tsukasa was highly introverted and awkward, but he was definitely not stupid. His brilliant, analytical brain processed the complex social dynamics of the room in a fraction of a second. Looking frantically over at the demonic Cerberus, who was happily devouring coconut chicken on the side with a blissful smile, Eishi Tsukasa suddenly realized the 'truth' of his current situation.

He imdiately stood straight up, forcefully executing another flawless, 90-degree bow to the entire room.

"Good evening, all Sensei's Wives..." Eishi declared loudly, his voice trembling with absolute submission.

"Hiss~"

Upon hearing this incredibly polite, utterly subservient address, Courage sucked in a sharp breath of air, her eyes widening in absolute delight. She imdiately made a solid, ntal decision right then and there. If Eishi Tsukasa ever went to a professional culinary competition organized by the prestigious WGO in the future, Courage would absolutely, directly go easy on him during the judging phase.

At this precise mont, the usually unapproachable 'White Knight' of Totsuki looked as cute and helpless as a little younger brother in Courage's eyes.

Gina Boyd and Sakura Hibiki, however, hadn't fully reacted to the unfolding social drama whatsoever. They were far too busy aggressively fighting over the last tender piece of at in the bubbling hotpot, completely oblivious to the fact that they were technically included in the sweeping "Sensei's Wives" title.

After all, they still had their own high school lives, heavy dumbbell curls, and fitness goals to perfect~

But if they had noticed, being misunderstood like this really wasn't a bad thing at all. As high school girls, both of them were very actively in the market for handso, capable boyfriends, and a master chef like Ren was the ultimate prize.

Courage simply couldn't resist joining in on the fun, tapping her cheek playfully. She smiled sweetly, exuding the elegant, commanding aura of a top-tier global food critic.

"Eishi Tsukasa, right?" Courage asked smoothly. "My na is Courage. I am a First-Class Gourt Executive Officer of the WGO."

Eishi's breath hitched, his culinary instincts screaming at him to show the utmost respect to one of the highest authorities in the global food industry.

"Since you are so polite, and clearly Shopkeeper Ren's beloved student," Courage purred smoothly, leaning over the table. "If you ever go to a competition organized by the WGO in the future, just ntion my na behind closed doors, and you'll get highly preferential treatnt~"

"Huh? Thank you, Sensei's Wife Courage..." Eishi stamred out, bowing yet again in sheer panic.

"Ah... What a perfectly good child," Courage praised, giggling softly behind her manicured hand.

While Eishi was being psychologically dismantled in the dining room, Ren was operating in absolute, undisturbed focus within the kitchen.

[Akarin's Note: Tom Yum (Tom Yum Goong) is a famous Thai hot and sour soup. The authentic flavor profile relies entirely on 3 essential aromatic herbs: fresh lemongrass, raw galangal (a sharp, citrusy root similar to ginger), and kaffir li leaves. It is a masterpiece of balancing spicy, sour, savory, and sweet notes in a single, explosive bite.]

Ren's knife beca a terrifying blur of silver tal. Thwack, thwack, thwack! He aggressively bruised thick stalks of fresh lemongrass and rapidly sliced raw galangal, releasing a pungent, incredibly vibrant citrus-pine aroma into the air.

He tore kaffir li leaves perfectly by hand, dropping them into a violently boiling pot of rich, briny shrimp stock.

The intense heat caused the essential oils to vaporize instantly. A thick, mouth-watering cloud of spicy, intensely sour, and aromatic steam billowed out from the kitchen, directly hitting Eishi's highly sensitive nose. Even while trembling under Kirari's gaze, Eishi's culinary mind was blown away by the flawless temperature control he could hear from the bubbling broth alone.

anwhile, Ren tossed a thick, beautifully marbled cut of premium beef onto the roaring hot cast-iron skillet. Sizzle—! The deafening, violent hiss of fat rendering filled the room.

Ren rapidly seasoned it with a shower of freshly cracked black peppercorns and coarse sea salt, creating a deep, mahogany crust. Next to it, plump German white sausages were gently simring to absolute perfection, their natural casings swelling with savory, spiced juices.

In a separate, cooler pan, thick slices of artisanal brioche soaked in a velvety, vanilla-infused egg custard were sizzling beautifully in golden, foaming butter. The rich, intoxicatingly sweet scent of caralized sugar violently clashed with the fiery spice of the Tom Yum broth in the air. Yet, under Ren's absolute culinary domain, the wildly contrasting aromas danced in perfect, impossible harmony.

Lucifer, observing the kitchen's mastery and seeing the clearly unusual, highly manipulative psychological situation playing out in the dining room, pinched the bridge of her nose. She let out a long, thoroughly exhausted sigh, turning her crimson gaze to the smirking Hyakkaou President.

"Why do I always feel like you're doing this entirely on purpose?" Lucifer asked flatly.

Kirari smiled sweetly, not an ounce of guilt showing in her icy blue eyes as she gracefully stirred her broth with a silver spoon.

"Oh? Why do you think that?" Kirari asked innocently. "Can't I simply be a little jealous?"

"You? Get jealous?" Lucifer scoffed loudly, crossing her arms tightly over her chest. "It looked much more like you were just actively helping Courage thoroughly bully the poor, defenseless boy just now~"

Kirari let out a soft, lodious hum, her twin braids swaying gently as she tilted her head.

"Hmm... please don't think of as soone so incredibly cunning," Kirari deflected smoothly. "After all, I'm just an ordinary, innocent girl with a few small, romantic ideas."

Lucifer's eye twitched violently in pure disbelief.

"You? An ordinary girl?" Lucifer deadpanned. "Do you honestly think I believe a single word of that absolute nonsense?"

Kirari's smile never faltered for a microsecond. Her gaze remained entirely unreadable, though a spark of genuine possessiveness flashed in her eyes.

"I think you do believe it," Kirari whispered softly. "And I really am jealous."

Watching the 2 incredibly powerful older won seamlessly engage in a high-level battle of psychological wits, effortlessly countering each other's verbal moves with terrifying precision... Sakura Hibiki and Gina Boyd slowly stopped chewing their chicken.

They exchanged a look of profound, deeply terrified respect. Both fitness-obsessed girls couldn't help but sigh in absolute unison.

"Is this... the terrifyingly complex world of adults...?"
