Fire Against Frost

Shan stared at her coldly. Anger rose from his heart as he thought back to the humiliation his father and he had experienced during this period of ti.

It wasn’t loud.

It wasn’t explosive.

But it burned.

Quiet. Steady. Dangerous.

And from that silence—

His battle intent began to rise.

Like heat before a storm.

Like a blade slowly being drawn.

That blazing battle intent spread out from the arena.

It rolled outward in waves, pressing against the spectators, stirring robes, rattling breath. The very air seed to grow heavier, as if the space between heaven and earth had tightened around the two figures standing at the center.

Selena didn’t move.

But the cold around her deepened.

Faint frost gathered beneath her feet, thin cracks of ice whispering across the stone like a quiet warning.

Everyone could feel it.

The shocking battle intent emitted by the two people on the stage.

A clash before the clash.

"The show is about to begin! Who will win the final battle?"

"The feud between the Athyst Summit Division and the Secret Sword Summit has returned... after all these years."

Voices rose, unable to stay contained.

Excitent.

Tension.

Anticipation.

The atmosphere instantly reached a climax. Every single pair of eyes locked onto the arena, unwilling to blink, afraid to miss even the smallest movent.

Up above—

Leon leaned slightly forward, his gaze sharp now, no longer relaxed.

This is it...

His fingers rested lightly against the armrest, but there was a faint tension beneath that stillness. Not visible to most—but to those who knew him well, it was obvious.

He wasn’t just watching.

He was asuring.

Weighing.

Calculating.

The scorched land beyond the arena still carried scars from battles long past—burned earth, cracked stone, faint traces of destruction that refused to fade. Even here, inside the structured discipline of the summit, the mory of violence lingered like a shadow.

And tonight—

That shadow felt alive again.

Back on the arena—

Referee Elder stepped forward, his presence steady, voice calm yet heavy with authority.

"Are you both ready?"

His eyes moved between them.

Selena gave a small nod.

No hesitation.

No words.

But her silence wasn’t empty.

It was sharp.

Focused.

Her fingers tightened slightly at her side before relaxing again, her breathing slow and controlled. The faint rise and fall of her chest was the only visible movent.

She didn’t need to speak.

Her intent was already clear.

Shan rolled his shoulders once, loosening the tension in his body before replying, voice low but clear—

"We can begin."

Unlike Selena, his movents carried a strange ease.

Too easy.

Like soone stepping into a familiar rhythm rather than a decisive battle.

A faint breeze passed between them.

Selena’s silver hair swayed.

Shan’s robes fluttered lightly.

For a brief second—

The world seed to pause around them.

Both were ready.

Selena had ended her previous battle quickly. Her Mana consumption was minimal—her breathing steady, her stance unwavering.

She stood grounded.

Balanced.

Like a blade that had yet to be drawn—but was already sharp enough to cut.

Shan, on the other hand—

Had just fought Amaya.

That battle had not been light.

It had demanded precision, control, and power.

His Mana should have been drained.

Anyone watching would co to that sa conclusion.

Yet—

There wasn’t a trace of concern on his face.

No fatigue.

No strain.

Instead—

He looked... relaxed.

Confident.

As if the outco had already been decided.

That calm wasn’t natural.

It wasn’t arrogance either.

It was sothing deeper.

Sothing unsettling.

Why?

Selena’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly.

Her gaze sharpened—not outwardly aggressive, but probing.

Reading him.

Breaking him apart piece by piece.

What are you hiding?

A flicker of tension passed through the crowd.

They felt it too.

Even if they couldn’t na it.

Up in the stands, whispers started forming again—quieter this ti, more cautious.

"That guy... doesn’t look tired at all."

"Didn’t he just fight Amaya?"

"Sothing’s off..."

A few elders exchanged glances.

One of them leaned slightly toward another, voice low—

"He’s either hiding sothing... or we’ve all underestimated him."

The other didn’t respond imdiately.

His eyes remained locked on Shan.

Unblinking.

Back on the stage—

"I now announce that the Seven Division Martial eting finals... have officially begun!"

Referee Elder’s voice rang out.

Firm.

Final.

And in the next mont—

He stepped back.

Leaving the stage to them.

The arena fell into a sharp, expectant silence.

No cheers.

No movent.

Just tension stretched to its absolute limit.

Even the wind seed to hold its breath.

Then—

Shan moved.

But not forward.

That alone made several brows furrow.

Instead of closing the distance—

Instead of testing or probing—

He calmly reached into his sleeve.

The motion was slow.

Deliberate.

Almost casual.

As if he wasn’t standing in the finals of a martial eting—but in his own courtyard, preparing for sothing routine.

Selena didn’t move.

But her focus tightened instantly.

Every muscle in her body remained still—but ready.

Watching.

Waiting.

From within his sleeve—

Shan took out a pill.

Small.

Dark.

Its surface faintly glead under the arena lights.

For a fraction of a second—

A subtle scent spread into the air.

Sharp.

Bitter.

Not strong enough for the crowd to notice—

But enough for those closest to feel sothing... off.

He didn’t rush.

Didn’t hesitate.

Didn’t even try to hide it.

Under the gaze of everyone present—

He simply lifted his hand.

And tossed it into his mouth.

Swallowed.

The movent was clean.

Decisive.

Final.

A ripple passed through the arena.

Confusion.

Shock.

Disbelief.

"...What?"

"He just—did he just take sothing?"

"In the middle of the finals?!"

The silence shattered into murmurs.

Even so elders straightened slightly, their expressions shifting.

Up above—

Leon’s eyes narrowed.

Not in surprise.

But in recognition.

Interesting...

Selena didn’t speak.

But her stance changed.

Subtly.

Her weight shifted just a fraction lower.

Her center grounded.

Her eyes locked onto him with a sharper edge now.

Not just cautious.

Alert.

Danger.

Shan lowered his hand slowly.

For a mont—

Nothing happened.

Then—

A faint tremor ran through his body.

So slight most would miss it.

But not Selena.

Not Leon.

Not the elders watching closely.

The air around him seed to distort—

Just a little.

Like heat rising from scorched ground.

His breathing deepened.

Once.

Twice.

Then steadied again.

And when he lifted his head—

That relaxed expression remained.

But sothing beneath it had changed.

Sothing heavier.

Darker.

"This is..."

Soone leaned forward.

"Recovery Pill?"

The realization hit like a spark in dry grass.

The crowd erupted.

"Damn, isn’t this cheating?! We agreed on a fair fight—he’s actually taking pills to recover?"

"Shaless!"

"So this is how the Secret Sword Summit fights?!"

Voices rose in anger, sharp and unfiltered. So even stood up, pointing toward the arena, unable to hide their disgust.

On the stage—

Shan didn’t react.

Didn’t even glance at them.

Instead, a faint surge of energy began to ripple through his body.

His aura stabilized.

Then rose.

Then—

Returned to its peak.

Clean.

Complete.

As if the previous battle had never happened.

At the high seats, Shera slowly stood.

No rush.

No emotion.

Just a single sweeping glance across the arena.

Silence followed instantly.

Like a blade pressed against every throat.

No one dared continue.

Referee Elder frowned slightly, then stepped forward, voice carrying across the arena.

"In the rules of the Martial eting... there is no restriction against recovering Mana through dicinal pills."

His tone was neutral.

But it didn’t calm the crowd.

Instead—

It made things worse.

"...He’s right."

"He never said we couldn’t..."

"F*ck—how shaless..."

"Only the Secret Sword Summit would pull sothing like this."

The anger didn’t disappear.

It sank deeper.

Turning into quiet disdain.

On the stage—

Shan exhaled slowly.

The last trace of fatigue left his body.

He rolled his neck slightly, then looked at Selena.

A faint smile appeared.

Not warm.

Not friendly.

Mocking.

"Hmph..." he let out a soft scoff, eyes narrowing slightly. "You’re still too inexperienced to fight us."

He took a step forward.

Each footstep echoed.

"During this period... you and your Teacher humiliated my Secret Sword Summit."

His voice dropped.

Cold.

Controlled.

"But today..."

A flicker of sothing darker passed through his eyes.

"I, Shan... will return it to you double."

A pause.

Then, quieter—

But sharper.

"Prepare yourself... for my wrath."

The air tightened.

Even the wind seed to hesitate.

Across from him—

Selena stood still.

No anger.

No reaction.

Her blue eyes remained calm, almost distant, as if his words hadn’t reached her at all.

For a mont—

She simply looked at him.

Then—

Her lips parted slightly.

"You talk too much."
