Ten, fifteen, twenty...

There are more than twenty cultists crossing the junction up ahead, Adam thought to himself with a grim expression on his face.

The problem was that half of them were Mana Vortex Magi, while the rest were Mana Liquefaction Magi. In usual circumstances, Adam wouldn’t have much of a problem dealing with them.

In fact, he wouldn’t even face these enemies, instead choosing to remain hidden and conserving his enemy reserves.

But now, both of those options were out of the question.

Not only did he have to deal with these enemies, but he also had to do so without drawing more attention, which was a big task in and of itself.

Back in the bloody secret plane, Adam had no problem dealing with over a hundred Mana Liquefaction-level blood beasts. However, he did have to make quite the sacrifice to co out victorious. He had been scarred both physically and ntally.

But here in the underground tunnels, he had to be utterly inconspicuous in dealing with his enemies. He couldn’t risk it. If more cultists were drawn here, then it would get significantly tougher for him to move the contestants to his manor.

Damn it, how the hell were they even able to infiltrate the city’s sewer systems?

He thought to himself, his dark eyes flickering with a dangerous light.

Just how long have they been plotting right underneath our noses? Such large-scale planning would have been impossible without powerful anti-divination tools and... help from inside.

These damned traitors! The mont I find out who they are—

His thought ca to an abrupt halt when suddenly a delicate hand grasped his arm from behind. Adam turned around and gazed at Lisa’s tense face.

He took a deep breath and cast Mind Whisper.

’There’s a group of enemies ahead,’ he said ntally.

He paused for a mont, then added, ’I think we’ll have to split up. We can’t risk being in the sa place for too long. The sewers are teeming with cultists.’

Out of everyone present, Lisa was the only one whom Adam hadn’t cast a spell on. It was because he believed her to be the most pragmatic out of the bunch. Anyone else, including Edward and even his students, would have vehently argued with him.

Ti was of the essence. As much as he hated it, he was forced to put an enchantnt spell on them for their own safety.

Lisa looked at Adam’s solemn expression, her face gradually turning more tense. She involuntarily gulped and took a deep breath.

Everything had happened so quickly that she didn’t even have ti to properly process things. Unlike Edward, she didn’t know in advance that the city would be attacked by evil forces.

Adam had disclosed this to her right before the final duel in the arena was about to take place. Still, she tried her best to keep her composure and help Adam in any way she possibly could.

If Adam claid that the city would be too dangerous for them, then it had to be dangerous for them.

If he claid that their best chance of survival was reaching his estate, then it had to be that.

She didn’t argue. She didn’t emotionally react. She acted practically and did as Adam instructed. She trusted him that much, at least. Or perhaps... she even trusted him with her life.

Lisa took another deep breath, at the sa ti casting a simple hand seal, then spoke through Mind Whisper, ’What do you need to do?’

Adam tapped the side of his forehead, then retrieved a glowing, ethereal thread. He then willed it to fly towards Lisa.

Rank 1 Spell: mory Strand!

’This contains my mory of the underground sewer passage leading to my estate,’ said Adam through ntal transmission.

’Follow the route.’

At the sa ti, he weaved a complex set of hand seals, then pointed his palms towards the group of contestants.

Visible waves of energy rippled outward, gently enveloping the two hundred or so people.

’This is to conceal any sound produced, and partially hide your figures in the darkness,’ Adam spoke with a grim expression. ’Still, I need you all to be as silent as possible. Be alert at all tis.’

Lisa’s lips quivered. She looked Adam in the eye and asked softly, ’What about you?’

The raven-haired youth smiled.

’Don’t worry about . I’ll be fine. I’ll see you in a minute. After I deal with these insects, that is.’

There was a lot Lisa wanted to say, but she, too, knew that ti was of the essence. So, she simply nodded at Adam with slightly tearful eyes, then led the group of Magi away.

Adam’s smile gradually vanished as the contestants soon disappeared from his view. His expression turned ferocious, and his eyes spewed a murderous light.

He turned around, just in ti to see the silhouettes of the cultists approaching him from the other side of the large tunnel. The reason they had found him in the first place was because of the vibrations their movents caused. There were close to two hundred people, after all.

But more than that, Adam had never expected the cultists to use the tunnels to lay siege on the city. It was evident that the cult had invested a lot of their resources for this battle.

They must have used a highly potent anti-divination spell that could deceive the eyes of even a Mana Core Magus!

Well, whatever. Now that you’re here... might as well hand over your souls.

Adam’s mind was shrouded in cold apathy and the singular will to murder his enemies.

This was going to be a battle unlike anything he had ever participated in—even the war with the orcs in the Southern Federation. He had to give it his all. He had to kill or be killed.

The raven-haired youth flicked his hands, and two sharp daggers shaped in the likeness of a raven’s feather appeared in them, gleaming with cold intensity.

Nighthollow!

It was a Rank 4 artifact and more than just a dagger. It was a symbol of death and silence. Each strike sent the victim into an abyss of eternal night, their screams silenced before they ever escaped their lips.

Despite the daggers’ strength being limited to the strength of the wielder, it was still the perfect weapon for Adam to use, given his current situation.

The next mont, his body slowly dissipated into wisps of smoke. Then, he completely disappeared from sight, as if his existence had been erased.

And now...

The carnage would begin.
