The mont those words rang inside Adam’s mind, he felt like an unseen hand had clenched his heart.
Several thoughts arose in his mind, yet he didn’t stop walking. He continued to act normally.
Who is the owner of this voice?
Is this the sa situation as rene’s? No... am I going crazy again?
If not, then who does this voice belong to?
And who is following ?
Did this turn out to be a trap, after all?!
Just as Adam was thinking about all sorts of scenarios, the strangely familiar voice belonging to the white-robed Adam echoed inside his mind.
"It’s not what you think, old sport. Soone is trying to communicate with you. Soone real."
The mont those words echoed inside his mind, Adam couldn’t help but heave a breath of relief. The white-robed Adam symbolized the rational part of his mind. And so, whatever he claid had to be the truth. Adam was certain of at least that much.
Now, much calr than before, Adam pretended to look at the note in his hand, then looked around seemingly casually before entering an alley.
He quickly retrieved the Stealth Cloak from within Gege and donned it.
’Good. Now follow my instructions closely. I’ll help you hide from the city guards.’
The stranger’s voice echoed inside Adam’s head once again.
City guards? He thought to himself, a dark frown on his face.
Suddenly, things started to make more sense to him. He couldn’t help but wonder, Are these guys after because I showed up at the gates without a permit?
That does make sense. It’s obvious that the security within the greatest city in Yen-Lu would be very tight.
Furthermore, I’ve covered my hands and head with strips of white cloth. I’ve even donned a mask to hide my appearance. No matter how I see it... I do look like a sketchy person.
Damn it!
’Take a left,’ said the voice.
Adam hesitated briefly, then turned left, heading into another alley.
He’s speaking through Mind Whisper, he thought.
It would be very difficult to find this person in such a crowded city. No, it would be borderline impossible! If I pay attention to searching for this person, I might not be able to focus on escaping the guards.
Damn these voices! They’re getting louder... louder....
"HAHAHA!" He burst into a crazed fit of laughter.
A few monts later, he once again started to move.
The voice spoke to him once again:
’You really are mad! Take the next right!’
The frown on Adam’s scarred face deepened.
Does he know ? He wondered.
Suddenly, a possibility erged, and he couldn’t help but think, Could he be the person Elder Zhenren asked to et?
All this seems so...
His thoughts ca to a halt when the voice spoke once again.
’Enter the alley to your left, then scale the building.’
Adam suddenly froze in his footsteps. Scale the building?
’Don’t stop!’ The voice scread inside his mind. ’They’re still after you! They’re almost there!’
Adam gritted his teeth, then finally entered the alley to his left. He looked up and sensed that the buildings on either side of him were at least a dozen storeys. It was easy to scale them by jumping from one wall to the other.
He turned back around and noticed that the main road was still crowded. If he really was being followed, then the guards would soon arrive.
’What’re you waiting for?! Do it now! You have five seconds!’
Adam’s hands involuntarily clenched into fists. Can I trust him?
’Four.’
’Three.’
’Do it now! Now! Now!’
’One second!’
Exactly one second later, a small group of city guards entered the alley. But unfortunately for them, Adam had long since disappeared.
The one leading the group raised his head and scanned the windows overhead. He found nothing suspicious. Then, he turned to the main road on the other end of the alley.
"Follow !" He said, walking towards the far end of the alley. "He shouldn’t be far. Let’s go!"

From the rooftop of that building, the view stretched endlessly across a sea of towering skyscrapers that glead beneath the pale moonlight.
Magical lights and paper lanterns mingled together, painting the cityscape in a surreal blend of oriental and modern architecture. From this height, Yuanshi looked less like a city and more like a living organism.
But Adam didn’t have the ti or the patience to admire the beautiful view.
After scaling the tall building and landing on the roof, he had finally co face to face with the owner of the voice that had guided him here.
His jaw nearly touched the floor, and if he had eyes, they would have popped out from the sheer surprise.
The owner of the voice, a cute little beast, looked at him and scoffed:
"What? Never seen a panda before?"
Yes.
It was a little panda.
A talking panda.
This was the mysterious helper who had assisted Adam in escaping the guards.
He was so speechless that he simply remained silent for almost a minute.
"Stop staring at !" The panda roared. "Anyways, we need to get down soon. The city guards patrol the skies of Yuanshi, too, you know?"
Taking tiny steps, the panda skipped towards Adam, then nimbly climbed his back. Then, he sat down on his shoulders. The panda glanced at the strange rucksack back on Adam’s back for a brief mont, then lost interest.
"Alright, go straight and begin your descent after the third building," said the panda.
Adam gulped involuntarily. Finally, he ca back to his senses. "Auhh-auhh!"
The panda rolled his eyes. "Oh, please! Drop the act already and do as I say. We’re still not out of danger."
Adam couldn’t help but frown at the aning behind those words. With utmost vigilance, he followed the panda’s words and jumped off the third building.
"Are you crazy?! At least, give a warning before you do sothing like that!" The panda was livid.
After Adam landed on the ground, the two arrived at yet another dark, secluded alley. This one felt much quieter than the ones he had visited previously.
Adam circulated the mana in his body, ready to fight should things go south.
Right at that mont, he heard footsteps approach him from behind. He quickly turned around, extending his Sphere of Resonance.
And the mont he found out who this person was, he was utterly thunderstruck.
In fact, he was so shocked that he ended up speaking:
"It’s you!!"
The figure approached him with a faint smile. Then, he replied with a light chuckle:
"It’s been a while... Adam."
