"T-this bastard!" One of the n blurted out in shock and fear.

Not only him, but all six Magi in the group couldn’t stop their hands from trembling when they realized who they were facing.

So of them, including Takezo, had personally gone to Ichigane Town and investigated that horrifying battlefield. While the rest had heard reports about it.

They all knew that one man had taken down a hundred Magi—of which over two dozen were at the Mana Vortex Rank!

Now, only a half a dozen Mana Vortex Rank faced the mad butcher. Of course, they were terrified of what was going to happen.

"Do you know what’s going to happen to you if you kill mbers of the Arakuro Clan? In Yuanshi no less?" Takezo Arakuro tried to put on a brave front, his grip around the katakana tightening.

Adam tilted his head and innocently posed a question, "It is okay for people like you to kill a nobody like , but suddenly it’s unjustified when it’s the other way around?"

"You bastard!" Takezo growled. "You have no idea just how powerful the Arakuro Clan is. You’ve already killed one of the Patriarch’s direct bloodline. If you kill more of us, the clan will not stop looking for you, no matter where you go! Tell , can you accept such an outco?"

Adam turned silent. A few monts later, he lowered his blades.

At last, he said, "I had no enmity with the Arakuro Clan. Believe , back then, I was minding my own business. Yet, Tensei Arakuro and his two lap dogs attacked out of greed. He incited the rest of the Magi into attacking just because I had a few treasures with .

"Tell , was that justified? I killed in order to save myself, but Tensei... he tried to kill because of his avarice. But he didn’t have the skills to defeat , and so he lost his pitiful life. Even now, I was minding my own business, yet you had to stick your nose right into it.

"Before learning my identity, you lot were hellbent on killing , ensuring that I never left this building. But now, after you realised who I was, suddenly you want to talk it out? Are all of you Arakuro scums such spineless hypocrites? Wait..."

Adam suddenly turned quiet. The silence was deafening. The Arakuro Magi couldn’t help but wonder what he would do next. The madman was utterly unpredictable. It would have been nice if he let them go, but they weren’t stupid enough to believe that.

So the only thing they could do was buy enough ti for reinforcents to arrive!

Takezo had already signalled one of the Magi to secretly contact the other clan mbers within Yuanshi. Hopefully, they’d get back up before Adam chose to fight. For they knew damn well that a fight was inevitable.

But at least, they could dictate when the fighting would begin.

Or so they thought...

"Heh." Adam’s lips curled upward, stretching into an unnatural grin. "Why bother with such a boring monologue? I should just slaughter all of you and get this over with."

Even before the last of his words had escaped his lips, he had already disappeared like a specter from legend.

His physical speed was so fast that the Arakuro Magi could barely trace his movents. A gust of wind blew across them.

Thud!

A dull thud echoed on the vast, abandoned floor. Then, hot blood sprayed into the air.

"Huh?" One of the Arakuro Magi lowered his head and noticed that his hand had been severed. "Ah... AAAH!"

He scread in agony as he tried to stop the blood loss. The other Magi from the group saw that Adam had chosen his target very carefully.

The one who had just been attacked was the very person who was trying to contact the clan for reinforcents! And clutched tightly in the palm of the severed hand was a circular disk used for communication!

Amidst that man’s blood-curdling scream, Adam, who was now standing a few ters behind the group, suddenly looked at the ceiling with a contemplative look on his face as blood dripped from his weapon.

"I wonder what makes the dumplings of Yuanshi so special," he murmured. "Is it the fillings? Or is it the seasoning? I suddenly feel like eating stead pork dumplings. It tastes delicious with the spicy sauce."

A mont later, another gentle gust of wind blew, and the madman disappeared once again.

Takezo’s eyes widened. "Watch out—"

Thud!

The Magus with the severed hand dropped to his knees. Blood gushed out like a fountain from his cleanly cut neck. A mont later, he lifelessly collapsed on the ground, his blood rapidly forming a small pool beneath him.

Everything had happened so quickly that the other Arakuro Magi were left terrorized. Forget fighting Adam, they couldn’t even see his movents!

Under their thunderstruck gazes, an orb of light erged from the headless corpse. It hovered above the corpse for a few monts before shooting in a certain direction.

Takezo’s eyes flashed with a cold, calculating light. He thought to himself, That’s right! The Soulmark Lantern!

All six of us have been marked by the Clan. If this madman kills all of us, he will surely be marked for death. If he doesn’t want to be marked, then he has to let one of us live.

I have to—

His thoughts ca to an abrupt halt when the orb of light circled the floor a few tis at incredible speed, seemingly pursuing an invisible target. Until finally, it burrowed into the body of an Arakuro Magus.

"...Huh?" This person was shocked that the orb of light had marked him. He looked at his chest as fear gripped his being. "W-why?"

Soon, he realized why.

Soone patted him on the shoulder, then whispered into his ear. "Thanks for the assist."

The man froze in terror. Only one thought echoed in his mind:

When did he—

STAB!

But even that simple thought remained unfinished when the next mont, a wave of searing pain radiated from his chest.

He lowered his head and saw a blade jutting through his chest. The next mont, the blade was lit ablaze. A mont after that, his entire body was consud by flas.

The man’s horrified screams echoed on the vast floor as he burned to death. His death was excruciating to say the least.

When this man died, an orb of light erged from his body.

A mont later, it shot towards Adam.

Once again, the deadly ga of tag had begun!
