The smile on Wei Motian’s face slowly faded away, his face now devoid of any emotions. His eyes narrowed, flashing with a cold light as he said:

"A re Mana Vortex vermin, where do you get the confidence to say such words? Do you not fear death?"

The Heavenly Demon sneered. "My confidence cos from my strength. Now untie , and I might just let you live. You’ll be my hunting dog for the rest of your life. It’s a step down from being the leader, but at least you’ll still be alive."

The more Wei Motian heard the Heavenly Demon speak, the more enraged he beca. He was being truthful when he claid that he had co here to recruit him. After all, the man had slaughtered so many of Arakuro’s n and carved fear in the hearts of his enemies.

Such a warrior would have been a valuable addition to the Qinglin Zhai. However, upon hearing the Heavenly Demon’s hateful words, Wei Motian changed his mind.

"No." His lips curled into a cold smile. "I won’t kill you. I’ll beat you to an inch of your life and hand you to the Arakuro Clan. You’ve butchered many of their n. Oh, the things they’ll do to you..."

With that said, he retrieved the labrys from his back. He crouched ever so slightly, and then...

Zoom!

The man arrived right before the Heavenly Demon, his hands held high as he prepared to viciously bring the double-edged axe down.

The Heavenly Demon’s pupils constricted at that mont. He inhaled a short breath, then quickly side-stepped.

Clank!

The blade of the axe barely touched the chains around the Heavenly Demon’s upper body before landing on the ground with a thunderous sound.

Amidst the dust and debris, the Heavenly Demon nimbly stepped on the upper blade of the axe and then delivered a vicious knee to Wei Motian’s face.

Bam!

Then, he planted his feet on the man’s chest and pushed himself backward, retreating several ters away.

When the dust settled, Wei Motian remained standing in an imposing manner, his weapon still deeply lodged in the ground. A drop of blood trickled down one of his nostrils, but that was all...

"You aren’t even using mana to fight," said the warlord. "But I will admit... you are quite nimble on your feet."

His eyes turned cold and cruel. A mont later, he added:

"You know what? Forget handing you over to the Arakuro scums. I’m going to kill you myself."

Before the last of his words had even escaped his lips, Wei Motian had already shot towards the Heavenly Demon, the larys positioned for the next attack.

The Heavenly Demon’s eyes widened, his pupils shrinking. He focused all his attention on the upcoming attack. His life depended on it. Not only did he have to dodge the attack, but he had to dodge at such an angle that it destroyed the chains binding him.

And the fact that he could not use hand seals to cast spells further made things difficult for him.

Within the second, Wei Motian lood over him, his larys ready to hack his torso. Instead of leaning back and dodging, the Heavenly Demon leaped forward instead!

Clank!

He twisted his body mid-air, maneuvering his body with horrifying precision as the edge of the axe struck the black chains again.

In a split second, he had arrived behind Wei Motian!

However, he wasn’t out of danger yet.

Realizing that he had missed his attack yet again, an enraged Wei Motian adjusted his body and then drove a brutal sidekick behind him.

Bam!

The attack landed squarely on the black chains, but the force of it viciously radiated inward and affected the Heavenly Demon’s ribs.

He was hurled into the distance from the force of the attack, rolling on the ground several tis before finally coming to a stop as the montum faded away.

The Heavenly Demon slowly rose to his feet and gazed at the black chains, calculating coldly in his mind.

Just one more attack...

One more attack and I’ll be free from these chains.

And then, I can cast spells—

However, his thoughts ca to an abrupt halt when a massive shadow lood over him. He raised his head just in ti to see Wei Motian standing before him, the larys in his hands coming down on him like the judgnt of the heavens.

"It is admirable that you survived three attacks," he said with a cold look on his face. "But this is where it ends."

The Heavenly Demon’s pupils dilated once more. The chance had finally co to free himself from the clutches of these mystical black chains!

As the labrys ca down on him, the world around him seed to have co to a standstill. Ti seemingly stopped, and the only thing in the Heavenly Demon’s vision was the axe and its wielder.

With precise movents, he positioned himself once again just in the nick of ti.

A confident smirk blood underneath the mask as he thought to himself:

With this, I will be free—

However, at the last mont, Wei Motian’s eyes flickered with vile and cunning. He knew exactly what the Heavenly Demon was planning, and so, he had co up with his own plan.

He loosened his grip around the weapon ever so slightly, causing the larys to extend its reach.

And then...

Slash!

Hot blood sprayed into the air as the labrys cut through not just the black chains, but also the Heavenly Demon’s flesh, muscles, and ribs.

A brutal, diagonal slash tore across the Heavenly Demon’s torso, and he staggered before collapsing to the ground.

Wei Motian coldly gazed at his unmoving body as he flicked his wrist to cast the blood from the blade of his weapon.

His lips parted, and he softly murmured:

"...It’s a pity."

With that said, he turned around and walked away. He would have liked to have the Heavenly Demon serve under him. But after the man had insulted him, he couldn’t allow him to live.

Respect through strength and fear.

Such was the law of the Unorthodox Faction.

If Wei Motian allowed a person who had disrespected him to live, then what sort of ssage was he sending to his underlings? To the rest of the Unorthodox Faction?

Thus, the mont the Heavenly Demon had insulted him, he had sealed his own fate.

Wei Motian had only taken a few steps when he suddenly froze.

He slowly turned around...

Only to find the Heavenly Demon already back on his feet, the final hand seal completed.

Then the man in the red oni mask raised his two fingers and pointed them at Wei Motian.

The Heavenly Demon finally unleashed his magic.
