The night sky above Amberfall blood with fireworks.

Brilliant streaks of crimson, gold, and sapphire burst high overhead, cascading into showers of light that reflected off rooftops and spires.

Each explosion was t with gasps and cheers, the thunder of fireworks rolling warmly through the city streets.

Below, the city was alive with joy. Families stood shoulder to shoulder in crowded squares, children pointed skyward with wonder, and laughter rang out as colors painted the heavens.

Couples held hands, vendors paused their trade, and for a fleeting mont, every worry seed distant, drowned by light and sound.

Founder’s Day had truly arrived.

Within the royal palace, guards paused along the ramparts as they looked up in awe. Servants and maids gathered in courtyards and balconies, faces illuminated by the fireworks, their expressions filled with happiness and gratitude.

For all the sches and danger that often lurked behind the palace walls, this was their ho, and tonight was beautiful.

Above Amberfall, the sky burned bright.

And below, an entire city celebrated, unaware of how close it had co to drowning in darkness, and thankful simply to exist beneath the pretty lights.

Within the safe confines of a private chamber in the castle, Amira stood by an arched window, watching the fireworks bloom across the night sky. The colors reflected in her ruby eyes, but her expression remained tense, for she knew of the hidden battle unfolding elsewhere.

Hazel sat nearby, cradling her son close. Panic flickered across her face as her thoughts returned, again and again, to her husband. She held Marcus a little tighter, whispering reassurances she wasn’t sure she believed herself.

Marcus, blissfully unaware, giggled and reached towards the window, his tiny fingers trying to grasp the lights dancing beyond the glass.

Outside, the city celebrated.

Inside, the mbers of the royal family waited.

Suddenly...

The doors to the chamber slowly creaked open. Amira and Hazel abruptly turned towards the source of the sound, their hearts gripped by panic. Their eyes flashed with nervousness, but also anticipation.

At last, a familiar figure appeared beyond the door.

Marlow stepped inside the chamber, his ruby eyes scanning his dear mother, his devoted wife, and finally, his beloved son.

"Marlow!" Amira rushed towards him and embraced him in a tight hug.

The red-haired prince smiled. Although his eyes looked tired, they glead with gratitude. He gently patted his mother’s back and whispered, "It’s all right, Mother. Everything’s fine now."

Amira heaved a heavy sigh as she let go. Before she could speak another word, she saw yet another familiar figure standing behind her son.

Her eyes turned teary, and she quickly embraced the newcor. "Thank goodness, you’re all right. Thank goodness..."

She rested her head in Maximillian’s chest and cried tears of joy. She naturally feared the worst when she learned what the city was facing.

But thankfully, everything had worked out in the end.

Marlow walked towards his wife, who couldn’t stop her tears from falling. He gently wiped her tears away and planted a warm kiss on her forehead.

"I’m sorry for everything," he murmured as he looked her in the eye. "I promise to be a better husband. I promise..."

Hazel simply cried in response. She was just grateful that her husband had returned alive. She buried herself in Marlow’s embrace, and the latter warmly hugged her back.

"Pa... pa..." Marcus reached out for him, revealing a cute, toothless grin.

Marlow’s lips quivered. And he gently put his arm around his baby boy. Just a few hours ago, he was ready to sacrifice his own life to save his family. Now, when he wrapped them in his embrace, he was overwheld by boundless emotions. He had never felt so grateful before.

After sharing a heartfelt mont, the family stepped out onto the wide balcony, where the view opened fully to the night sky. From there, the fireworks spread across the heavens in brilliant colors, filling their vision with vivid lights and spectacular sounds as they watched in silence together.

Marlow, holding Marcus in his arms, suddenly recalled sothing and smiled. He turned to the Queen and called out, "Mother, I have sothing for you."

Amira, who was enjoying the grand night show as she held Maximillian’s hand, turned towards her son with an arched brow. "What is it?"

The red-haired prince smiled gently and held out a book to her.

Amira glanced down at the book’s title and was slightly taken aback. "Nilrem’s Guide to Amberfall?" she asked. "How did this end up in your possession?"

"Well..." Marlow’s smile deepened. "Things just happened."

Driven by curiosity, Amira turned directly to the epilogue of the book, seeking Nilrem’s final words.

The epilogue read as follows:

Amberfall is a city of contradictions.

It rises radiantly beneath the twin moons, its dos proud and immaculate, while shadows gather at their foundations. Prosperity and unease walk side by side here. Laughter fills the streets as bargains are struck behind closed doors. Order is cherished, yet disorder is intimately understood.

I have seen its virtues, kindness offered without expectation, duty fulfilled beyond obligation, and rulers who carry burdens heavier than their crowns. I have also seen its vices, ambition hardened into cruelty, loyalty twisted into leverage, and love reduced to a ans.

And yet... Amberfall stands tall.

It exists perpetually at a crossroads, where every sunrise offers renewal, and every sunset threatens collapse. Hope here is neither blind nor guaranteed. It is chosen, again and again, despite all reason not to.

If the city is to be rembered kindly, it will not be for peace or purity. It will be for monts when sacrifice outweighed fear, when restraint surpassed power, and when one chose a greater act over personal survival, finding in that choice a deeper rest than any retreat could ever offer.

Such cities are rare.

Such choices, rarer still.

And so I leave Amberfall as I found it... vigilant and unbroken, still capable of choosing what it will beco.

Magus Nilrem stood atop the clock tower.

Above him, the night sky glittered with stars, while fireworks blood and faded in brilliant colors, illuminating Amberfall in fleeting light.

From beginning to end, he had orchestrated the script, with Amberfall as the stage and the Firebornes as its central cast. Every entrance and exit, every turn of fate, had played out as intended — except for the scene where he had to step in and deal with the undead knight.

And now, the story had reached its conclusion.

The play was over.

It was ti for the curtain to fall.

Nilrem took a slow breath and offered a smile as brilliant as the stars in the sky. He lifted his beret and bowed towards the city below.

He straightened and then turned towards the royal palace, his gaze seemingly resting on the Firebornes. At last, he could now leave without worrying about their safety.

Wishing them well, he murmured gently:

"So long, everyone..."

A mont later, he dissolved into wisps of smoke.

No trace remained.

No na lingered.

Forever unknown. Forever unseen.

Thus ended the tale of Magus Nilrem and his adventures in Amberfall.

But the legend of the Faceless Magus had only just begun...
