This sword...

The Winter Lord lowered his gaze to the blood-soaked greatsword protruding from his chest.

It belonged to the undead knight.

The elder coughed violently, hot blood spraying from his mouth. His vision slowly started to fade away as the venom wreaked havoc inside of him.

His end was near. He knew it.

Behind him, the masked man stood cold and unyielding.

He had suddenly appeared like a ghost, and the Elder couldn't sense his presence until the blade pierced his chest.

Adam's hands gripped the hilt of the greatsword. His robes were torn, his body marked with sword cuts. Blood had frozen against his skin, and much of his flesh was numb with frostbite.

Yet, despite it all, he remained upright, tall, and proud, radiating dominance and tyranny.

He swung the sword in a sharp, diagonal arc upward, cutting through the Winter Lord's lung, ribs, and shoulder.

The Elder grimaced in agony and collapsed to the ground.

Adam pointed his index and middle fingers and cast two successive Magic Missiles at the Winter Lord's hands, effectively preventing him from casting any more spells.

At last, he lodged the greatsword into the ground beside him and heaved a long and heavy sigh.

He looked at the Elder, the blood pooling beneath his body, the purple veins spreading under his skin from the poison, and then finally t those blue eyes.

Within them lingered a trace of sadness and regret.

"You fought well." Adam offered a nod of acknowledgnt. "You were strong, the strongest Magus I have ever fought."

The Winter Lord gazed weakly at the masked man. His lips trembled as he spoke between fits of violent, bloody coughing:

"You... why are... why are you... after my... lord?"

Even at death's edge, his thoughts clung to the one who had saved him, nurtured him, and shaped him into the man he had beco. Such was the fierce loyalty the Winter Lord held toward the Cult Leader.

Adam deeply looked down at the dying man for a long mont. Then, he spoke, his voice gentle but firm:

"He intends to sacrifice this world and its people to the devils. How can I not stand against him? Even setting aside my personal grievances, I must stop him. No matter what."

"He... just..." the Winter Lord convulsed, coughing up more blood. "Wants to..."

"I don't care what his reasons are," Adam sharply interrupted him. "He must be stopped."

The Winter Lord's lips curled into a pitiful smile.

"You are... too weak... to stop... him," he said softly. "You... don't know... how powerful..."

Before he could finish his words, he burst into another round of violent coughs. As he did so, his body turned weak and pale.

More blood pooled beneath him, and for the first ti in his life... he felt cold.

Listening to those words, Adam couldn't help but frown a little.

Just how much more powerful is Bartholow? He thought grimly.

A sense of unease crept up within his heart, and he couldn't help but feel that he was lacking. Despite all the trials and tribulations he had undergone, he had this vague feeling that he still couldn't stand up to the powerful Cult Leader.

Right at that mont, the Winter Lord's frail voice echoed in the air.

"Before I go... at least... tell ... your... na... Magus..."

Adam instantly beca alert. He scanned the Elder's body to see if any hidden artifacts or listening devices were activated. But all he saw was the man's life fading away. He then scanned the surroundings and noticed that no one alive or dead - was there.

He breathed a sigh of relief. Still, he did not let down his guard. Instead, he chose to reveal his na through Mind Whisper.

Adam felt a flicker of pity for the man.

Soone born with such great talent for the arcane arts, an Innate Physique no less, could have carved out a na for himself anywhere in the Greater

Universe.

But fate had chosen otherwise.

The Winter Lord had lived, and now died, in the shadows of a wicked villain.

The raven-haired youth nodded faintly and sent him a ntal transmission: My na... is Adam Constantine.

The Winter Lord's eyes slowly widened in disbelief. He stared at the masked man as if he were staring at a ghost.

And then, understanding flashed in his blue eyes.

"...I see," he murmured with a bitter smile. "The... devil's prophecy... it was... self-fulfilling..."

The light in his eyes faded, and he breathed his last, leaving behind his final words.

"Destiny... made... manifest..."

Adam couldn't help but frown at the man's final words. Devil's prophecy?

But he couldn't afford to be absent-minded at such a critical juncture. The mont the Winter Lord drew his final breath, two things happened.

First, his soul surfaced within the mysterious space inside the Lotus. Second, a small orb of light rose from the corpse and quickly rushed straight toward Adam.

The raven-haired youth retreated at his fastest speed, the orb of light pursuing him relentlessly. His hands turned into a blur, and he rapidly weaved hand seals. Just before the orb was about to plunge into him, Adam summoned a serpent from the Coil and held it out in front of him.

The orb of the Soulmark Lantern sank into the clueless serpent instead. The snake froze. It tilted its head, blinked once, then turned around and angrily

hissed at Adam.

The raven-haired youth didn't have any energy to argue with the snake, so he

simply cancelled the summons and sent it back to the Coil.

After all that was over, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He returned to the Winter Lord's corpse and stared at it with complicated

emotions.

What did you an by the devil's prophecy? He couldn't help but wonder.

Left with questions rather than answers, he let out a quiet sigh. Adam crouched beside the fallen Elder and gently closed his eyes.

He may have been his enemy, but over the course of the battle, he had beco soone Adam ca to respect.

If circumstances were different, I would have liked to share a glass of wine with

you...

Adam smiled.

He abruptly turned around, his eyes squinting underneath the Faceless Mask. Just now, he sensed two very familiar presences rapidly approaching his

location.

His smile widened.

Looks like they've succeeded on their end, he thought.

Adam weaved a hand seal, and in the next mont, the faint outline of an

arched gate appeared behind him. He took a single step back and vanished. With the climax of the play complete, the story began to settle into a new state, revealing the outco of the conflict and the fate of the characters. It was ti for the wandering Magus Nilrem to conclude the play.
