Chapter 917: Rowan, run!
Hayes Ballard was drowned in a tempest of wind and ice. The resulting explosion concealed his figure in a cloud of dirt and debris.
anwhile, Daryl and Ada, after casting their respective spells, quickly drew back and regrouped with Anna.
Getting into a triangle formation, Anna stood at the forefront, aiming her flaming sword at the enemy, while the other two flanked her sides.
All three of them were ready to attack.
With an extrely solemn expression on her face, she flatly said, “Use every spell and every artifact in your arsenal. We must buy enough ti until Kaspar returns.”
However, neither of them believed the elderly protector would return anyti soon.
Depending on the difference in strength and skills, a battle between Mana Vortex Magi could either finish very quickly or draw out for an extended period of ti, resulting in a stalemate.
By now, a minute had already passed since Kaspar York had engaged with the crooked cultist.
If he hadn’t finished the battle by now, chances were it was going to take him a while longer.
Ti…
A precious commodity in battle, and one the trio could not afford to waste. The longer their clash with Hayes Ballard dragged on, the slimr their chances of victory beca.
Not that they had much of a chance at victory to begin with.
Despite all three of them being equipped with Grade 3 artifacts, they couldn’t wield them to their full potential. After all, they were but Mana Liquefaction Magi.
Only a Mana Vortex Magus could truly harness the full power of a Grade 3 artifact.
In this universe, whether an artifact was crafted by hand or, on the rarest of occasions, born from nature, its true potential could only be unlocked by a Magus of matching strength.
Such was the case with Anna, Ada, and Daryl at the mont.
However, that did not an that the Grade 3 artifacts in their possession were useless. On the contrary, they were the crucial tools that might just keep them alive long enough for Kasper York to arrive!
Amidst the dust and debris obscuring Hayes Ballard’s figure, a terrifying surge of mana could be felt all of a sudden. The next mont, a dense wave of energy rippled outward.
Anna’s expression sank, and she hurriedly instructed, “Daryl, switch!”
Almost imdiately, the two exchanged positions, with the auburn-haired man now standing at the forefront of the triangle formation.
Without even wasting a breath, he crouched low and slamd his palms to the ground.
And in the very next mont… a bolt of lightning shot towards the trio from within the cloud of dust.
Rank 3 Spell: Lightning Bolt!
A devastating spell from the School of Invocation, a stroke of lightning forming a line of a hundred feet long and five feet wide, blasted from the caster.
Such a vicious spell was capable of instantly decimating a weaker enemy.
In his fit of rage, Hayes Ballard had unleashed this spell, completely ignoring the fact that he needed Anna Fireborn alive as a hostage.
He was truly infuriated by the fact that three re Mana Liquefaction Magi had even managed to deal so minor damage to him.
As a proud Magus of the Ballard Family, he could not bear this humiliation at all!
The destructive pillar of lightning tore through the air and arrived before the trio in the blink of an eye, threatening to obliterate them.
But thanks to Anna’s quick decision-making, they were able to counter the Rank 3 spell on ti.
Just as the thick bolt of lightning was about to engulf the trio, the bronze bracers around Daryl’s forearms lted into a type of strange liquid and slithered to the ground.
And in the very next mont…
BOOM!
A resounding explosion echoed through the battlefield, sending flashes of lightning and shards of stone debris flying in all directions.
In the near distance, when Rowan witnessed this spectacular scene, his eyes widened in utter disbelief.
From the sudden ambush by two powerful Magi to witnessing the dazzling clash of elental forces between the powerhouses, the middle-aged man felt like he had lived through a lifeti in re monts.
He was abruptly snapped out of his thoughts as several chunks of stone debris hurtled towards him and his family.
Oh no!
Rowan’s heart sank at the sudden developnt. Everything had happened so quickly, and before he knew it, his body moved on its own, and he turned around and shielded his wife and children from the aftermath of the terrifying magical clash.
“Gahh!!” Rowan grimaced his pain as a few pieces of stone debris smashed against his back and shoulders. One even grazed past the side of his head, instantly causing that area to bleed out.
But he cared nothing for his own wounds.
Lowering his head, he first observed his family. Only after confirming that they weren’t hurt did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.
His heart was gripped by terror at that mont. Just the aftermath of a clash between Magi was enough to threaten his life and that of his family.
The arcane battlefield was definitely no place for mortals like them to be!
We need to run! He thought to himself, his face riddled with panic and urgency.
But my Master’s sister…
He turned around, tears forming in his eyes.
Lady Anna…
But soon, his eyes widened once again. When the dust from the clash settled, he discovered that Anna, Ada, and Daryl were fine. And in front of them…
At so point, an enormous figure made of rocks and stones had materialized, taking the full brunt of the Mana Vortex Magus’s lightning spell head-on!
Right at that mont…
Anna suddenly turned toward him and, with a grave expression on her face, scread, “Rowan, run!”
Rowan knew that the longer he and his family remained on the battlefield, the slimr their chances of survival beca.
Gritting his teeth, he rose to his feet, lifting his horrified son into his arms. Then, he turned to his wife and spoke in a panic. “Carla, get up! We must escape! Now!”
The woman snapped out of her daze. Tears stread down her face as she clutched their daughter with trembling hands.
Together, the family fled.
There was no surviving the chaos ahead, as two battlefields raged before them, and even a stray aftermath of a single clash could be fatal to them.
And so, only one path remained.
The narrow pass behind them.
But in doing so… the family’s fate was irrevocably altered.
Because the mont they slipped into the narrow pass, a pair of hollow, ominous eyes, hidden atop the cliff overlooking the valley…
Suddenly locked onto them!
