Chapter 935: Irony (Ko-fi Bonus Chapter)

Choura Town.

After speaking with the captain of a rchant vessel, Rowan managed to secure passage for the entire group.

Of course, to the public eye, they appeared nothing more than a family of four transporting goods, heading to the Southern Federation to start a business and settle down.

But, naturally, the truth was far from it…

Little did the ship’s captain or the rest of the passengers know that among them was a proud princess of a kingdom, one who had drawn the wrath of a furious Mana Vortex Magus from Ravenfell.

Of course, they didn’t need to know such things. That way, it was better for everyone.

Only the captain and the first mate had the faintest idea that Rowan was transporting injured passengers hidden within the caravan.

They suspected that these people were fugitives, perhaps fleeing the Empire.

But what did it matter to them? A hefty pouch of gold had already changed hands. That was more than enough to buy their silence.

After all the crewmates and the passengers had boarded, and the ship finally set sail, did Rowan finally breathe a sigh of relief.

He stood on the deck, his weathered hands gripping the railing as the ship slowly creaked and groaned into motion.

The salty sea breeze gently brushed against his face, and he could hear the distant cries of seagulls and the fading sounds of the bustling harbor as the sun dipped below the horizon.

Behind him, the port town grew smaller and smaller with each passing second. Its tall masts, crowded piers, and flickering lanterns were gradually swallowed by the blanket of dusk.

His emotional eyes remained fixed on the shrinking shoreline, watching as the rooftops gradually blurred into the horizon.

The glimring waters of Galestine reflected the twilight sky, casting a reddish-golden path before the ship.

For a long while, he said nothing.

The silence was heavy, but for once… it felt peaceful.

As land gradually disappeared behind him, he turned in the direction of Ravenfell.

His eyes welled up with tears, and he thought to himself:

Master… Lady Anna is safe. I promise you I will serve her faithfully.

He suddenly had this strange premonition in his heart that he might never see his master again.

It was a quiet, bittersweet feeling. He didn’t know what the future held for either of them.

But there was one thing he was certain of.

Earlier today at the Constantine Estate…

When Adam smiled, patted his shoulder, and sent him off with a few parting words…

That had been their final farewell.

Realizing this, he couldn’t stop his tears from streaming down his face. Almost reflexively, he gratefully bowed as if he were in Adam’s presence.

“Master… thank you… for everything!”

And right at that mont, another strand of raven-black hair that mysteriously clung to his tunic all this while…

Suddenly vanished without a trace.

***

Constantine Estate, Ravenfell.

Inside the safe confines of his underground laboratory, Adam paced back and forth with his hands clasped behind his back.

His heart was gripped by anxiety, and he couldn’t stop worrying about Anna’s safety. In all his thirty-five years, he had never felt such tension.

From the mont Anna and her entourage had left the city, a silent war had begun between him and the Cult of Bones.

What caught him completely off-guard was the sudden appearance of an expert whom he suspected to be the one leading the cult’s operations in the city.

Adam had a feeling that the person was as strong as the Headmaster of Saratoga Castle!

But none of that mattered at the mont.

He could deal with the sudden ergence of this expert later, when his mind was clear enough to think about such matters.

Right now, all he cared about was one thing.

Anna’s safety.

He had run countless simulations, accounted for every possible failure, perford divinations to ensure he was on the right path, and in the end even cast a forbidden spell to bestow luck upon his sister.

Yet, despite all his ticulous preparations, an ominous thought clawed at his mind.

What if sothing went wrong?

A drop of sweat trickled down his forehead as that dreadful possibility clawed his mind. He shook his head in terror, forcing the thought away, and resud pacing back and forth in the chamber.

Then, all of a sudden, he felt the space beside him tremor slightly.

Adam’s eyes lit up with anticipation as he saw a small portal to the Spirit World forming and, from it, a tiny black serpent slithering out.

The youth crouched down, extending his hand as the serpent slithered onto his palm. Gently, he raised the creature to his head.

It whispered the words he had so desperately longed to hear.

Anna was fine.

Rowan and his family were fine.

Everyone had safely set sail towards the Southern Federation!

Adam collapsed to the ground, his legs giving out beneath him. His shoulders loosened at once, as though an imnse burden had finally been lifted from his back.

“Ha… haha…”

He threw his head back and laughed out loud.

“Hahahaha!”

All of his ticulous planning had finally borne fruit. So what if it had cost him a portion of his lifespan?

In the end, the only thing that truly mattered was Anna’s safety.

Ever since she had arrived in Ravenfell, he had been tirelessly devising ways to send her away unhard.

He knew that this cursed city would soon one day beco a battlefield, and that his enemies would not hesitate to use her to get to him.

But now that he was finally able to succeed in his sches, even going so far as to deceive that expert who had suddenly appeared earlier today, he couldn’t help but feel a great sense of achievent swell in his heart. It was a satisfying sense of triumph.

Now that he knew that Anna was far away from the chaos here, he could finally turn his full attention to battling those damned cultists.

The youth laughed for a very long ti, thoroughly enjoying this sweet taste of victory.

It was a joy unlike anything he felt in physical confrontation. Outsmarting his foes, watching his sches unfold to perfection… this was the high of the arcane mind!

But even as he relished in this feeling of his hard-earned victory, sothing dark stirred in the streets of Ravenfell.

A shocking piece of news started to float around, like ink in water, staining the city in apprehension.

And soon… Adam would be yanked from his cloud of triumph, hurled back to the storm of uncertainty.

He would soon learn what it ant to tamper with fate.

He would soon learn that he had saved Anna from one fate, only to cast her into the arms of another… one no less cruel, and perhaps even darker.

He would soon learn…

That fate had a cruel sense of irony!
