The day after work began on the altar’s Magic Array.
Basta went to Martin of his own accord and confessed to being an undercover agent.
He gave up several of his comrades, fellow undercover Mages from the Macher Kingdom.
Martin was stunned, unable to understand why Basta would expose himself.
Basta also confessed sothing else.
He was responsible for the little trick that caused the Magic Array to collapse yesterday.
He had also planned to destroy all the Magic Arrays at the last mont, just before their completion, in order to stop the Divine Worship Ceremony.
His accomplices were utterly stunned when they were captured.
They stared at Basta in disbelief, their faces filled with anger and confusion.
’Why would he betray us?’
Martin handed Basta and the others over to the City Lord’s Mansion to be dealt with.
Otz’s Personal Guard Captain escorted the group back to Maple City for interrogation.
Basta sat blankly in one carriage, while the others were placed in another.
They all wore Forbidden Magic Shackles and were unable to use their Mana.
They all stared hatefully at Basta.
Basta remained indifferent, gazing blankly at the sky.
RUMBLE RUMBLE!
The wheels turned, heading in the direction of Maple City.
A figure followed behind the procession at an unhurried pace.
Suddenly, a stir ca from the woods by the roadside.
The mbers of the Guard Team imdiately beca vigilant.
A Tier Three Iron-toothed Tiger charged out of the woods and attacked the convoy.
Faced with the attack from a Tier Three Magic Beast, the group was caught off guard.
The Personal Guard Captain was only a Tier Three Warrior.
He was sent flying by a swipe from the Iron-toothed Tiger.
"ROAR!"
The Iron-toothed Tiger activated its Skill, "Fierce Tiger Roar Wave."
The terrifying Power instantly destroyed both carriages.
The people inside the carriages were killed instantly.
The Guard Team mbers caught in the blast lay on the ground, clutching their ears and wailing.
After killing the prisoners, the Iron-toothed Tiger turned and left.
The Personal Guard Captain led his n in pursuit, but after a few dozen ters, they found the Iron-toothed Tiger had vanished.
Returning to the carriages and seeing the dead prisoners, his face twisted with frustration.
He hadn’t expected soone to co and silence them.
These were five Official Mages.
’The Macher Kingdom is truly ruthless.’
’They abandoned these five people as soon as things went south.’
Li Wei stopped in his tracks, a look of surprise on his face as he watched the ravaged convoy retreat into the distance.
He hadn’t expected soone to make a move before he did.
Li Wei had also co to silence them.
Basta had seen his true face, and he couldn’t let the matter of the dream be exposed, so they had to be silenced.
However, before he could act, soone else had already taken care of Basta.
The reason Basta had turned himself in was that he was already under the control of the Shadow Attendant.
After Basta died, the Shadow Attendant took the opportunity to slip away unnoticed.
Li Wei glanced at the Iron-toothed Tiger that had fled into the woods, hesitated for a mont, and decided not to give chase.
He turned and returned to Cyan Maple Slope.
Using the dream, Li Wei had already forced all the information out of Basta.
He thought he had already rooted out all the spies within the Mage Tower.
But now it seed there was another undercover agent in the Mage Tower, one that even Basta didn’t know about.
’Otherwise, he would have confessed everything in the dream last night.’
When he returned to Cyan Maple Slope, El found him and asked, "Where did you go?"
Li Wei said, "I just went out to use the bathroom."
"Right. Hurry over to the eting. Mage Martin is waiting for you," El said.
Li Wei was a bit surprised. "Waiting for ? Why?"
El said, "This is an internal eting for the core mbers of our Mage Tower."
Li Wei nodded, indicating he understood.
He followed El to a house.
It was a house that Martin had built using the Tier Three Earth Magic, "Mud into Stone."
’He had been quite envious of this spell before. And he still was.’
El led Li Wei inside, where more than ten people were already gathered.
They were basically all old-tirs from the Mage Tower.
Martin glanced at Li Wei as he took a seat, then with a wave of his hand, the stone door slamd shut, sealing them off from the outside.
He stood up, scanned the crowd, and said, "All of you are veterans of Maple City, people who can be trusted."
"I’ve called you all here today about what happened this morning."
"From what we’ve seen, many of the people who have joined the Mage Tower recently have done so with ulterior motives."
"So are undercover agents for the Macher Kingdom, while others have co for different reasons."
"Regardless, we must ensure the completion of the altar’s Magic Array."
"Therefore, I have a very important task for you."
Everyone looked at him. The atmosphere was solemn as they held their breath, waiting for his command.
Martin said, "I want you to find the spy hidden within the Mage Tower."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was an urgent knock on the door.
Martin glanced at the others, waved his hand to open the door, and asked, "What is it?"
"The convoy escorting the spies back to Maple City was attacked. All the spies have been silenced," a mber of the City Lord’s Personal Guard reported hurriedly.
Martin’s expression froze, growing even more solemn.
Hearing this, everyone else’s expression turned grave as well.
Everyone knew one thing for certain.
There was still a spy in the Mage Tower who had not been rooted out.
Martin’s expression smoothed over. He said calmly, "Mm, I understand. You’re dismissed."
"Yes, sir."
After the man left, Martin scanned the room.
"You see? Things have already escalated to this point."
"The Magic Array will be completed tomorrow. That will be their last chance, and they definitely won’t miss it."
"It’s also our last chance."
"If we can’t stop them from destroying the altar, not only will all our efforts be for naught, but we’ll also have to bear the imnse responsibility for the altar’s destruction!"
"Get to it. Use your own thods to find the spy."
"Yes, sir."
The group responded in unison.
As the others were leaving, Martin called out to Li Wei.
He looked at Li Wei and asked, "Where did you go just now?"
Li Wei said, "I went into the woods to relieve myself."
Martin said, "Be careful. Judging from yesterday’s events, destroying the altar is one of their goals. You could very well beco a target for them too."
"The tree that stands out in the forest will be the first to be blown down by the wind. Always rember that."
Li Wei nodded and said, "I understand. Thank you for your concern, Mage Martin."
Leaving the stone house, Li Wei walked onto the altar and glanced around.
He felt like everyone was watching him.
But when he looked back, they would all avert their eyes or lower their heads.
They didn’t dare et his gaze.
Li Wei didn’t know how much malice was hidden in those gazes.
El continued his work as a team leader.
He arranged for personnel to charge the Magic Array.
However, he no longer assigned any tasks to Li Wei.
That suited Li Wei just fine. He found a quiet corner and sat down to begin his Cultivation.
The Shadow Attendant circled beneath him, standing guard.
In the afternoon, a commotion broke out on the altar.
Li Wei opened his eyes and looked in the direction of the noise.
A group of Array Masters were gathered together, discussing how to inscribe the Magic Array for the altar’s Tier Two.
Soone pointed out that if they set up the Magic Array according to the original plan, it wouldn’t et the requirents for the Divine Worship Ceremony’s altar.
The closer it got to the place where the Divine Spirit would descend, the more solid and stable the altar needed to be.
He proposed a solution.
But he was overruled by the others, who believed they should stick to the original plan.
They argued that the plan could not be modified without authorization.
