“All right, enough of this. You have to end this in front of me right away.” Nian Qingyun’s eyes were bulging with anger.
Jiang Yuning looked at him and said to Nian Xi, “I don’t like him.”
“You think I care if you like me?” Nian Qingyun was clutching his chest now. He felt a wave of pain hit him.
What had he done in his previous life to deserve this? He had a son who drove him up the wall, and he would kill himself before would he allow someone like this to marry his daughter. He would have a heart attack because of the two.
“I’m calling your mother. I’ll let her talk some sense into you.” Nian Qingyun thought it was a good opportunity to call Murong Chen, as it had been a while since he last talked to her, so he quickly dialed her number.
The moment the call connected, he quickly said in an accusatory tone, “Murong Chen, look at how you raised your daughter…”
“I’m sorry, Chen is changing.” It was a man’s voice over the line. Nian Qingyun was shocked, feeling faint once again. It was as if someone had run a knife through his body.
Murong Chen was changing, and a man picked up the call while she was doing so. It was extremely early in the morning—what had they been doing?
“Pass the phone to Murong Chen, now!” Nian Qingyun bellowed in anger.
Nian Xi was shocked. She could see that his face had turned pale now. He looked like he was about to have a stroke. “Dad, are you okay?”
Nian Qingyun ignored her and walked to the edge of the room. After a while, he could hear Murong Chen in the background. “Minghan, who is it?”
“Your ex-husband.”
Nian Qingyun felt his temples throb, his heart aching. How had he turned into her ex-husband? They had been married for decades, but he still couldn’t e to terms with the fact that they had split up.
“Nian Qingyun, what do you want so early in the morning?” Murong Chen said with irritation, finally on the line.
“You know how early it is?” Nian Qingyun started berating her. “What are you doing with a man so early in the morning? What a shameless woman! You’re past your fifties, you know?”
Murong Chen was annoyed. “I already divorced you. You ought to stay out of my business. What do you think we were doing? We slept together, of course. What’s so shameless about that? I’m single, unlike you, who was fooling around as a still married man!”
Nian Qingyun was huffing and puffing. It stung when she said that they had spent the night together. How could his wife sleep with someone else? “I’ve realized my mistake, and it was one time. I haven’t made any more mistakes.”
“How could you ever forget eating sh*t? You’re sh*t to me now, you know that?” Murong Chen said harshly. “If you’re calling to berate me, I’m going to hang up. I can’t be bothered to—”
“Wait, of course now,” Nian Qingyun said hastily, “I’m calling about our daughter. Did you know that your girl has found herself a gigolo? You’re not educating her well, too busy on your own dates perhaps…”
Nian Xi was about to break down. “Dad, he’s not a gigolo, okay? Don’t listen to him, Mom!”
“You hear that?” Nian Qingyun continued. “She’s really protective over that boy, too. I dropped by to visit her this morning just to see a naked man roaming around in her house. It’s preposterous. It wouldn’t be so bad if he was a decent man, but this guy is far from that. I have no idea where he came from. He wouldn’t even look me in the eye, and he’s extremely rude and disrespectful. He’s a good-for-nothing guy.”
Nian Xi covered her face. “Dad, he’s wearing pants, all right?”
