Ruan Chanchan stiffened, and so did the two rs. The three of them slowly raised their heads and looked at the super gigantic python.
Ruan Chanchan: "..."
She knew she had a sense of foreboding, and usually her gut sense had always been on point. So, this was why her gut was telling her to bring Xie Daiyu with her. She stepped back and turned to look at Yuan Ni and Ruan Zeqiu with a worried and helpless look. "I hope that you two are prepared?" Though she said that, there was a hint of doubt in her tone. How could there not be when she didn’t trust these two rs?
And when she saw their pale expressions, Ruan Chanchan knew that her feelings were spot on.
Darling, I don’t know how to say this any more kindly... but you are fucked, you know that? Xiao Xi, her pathetic system roared inside her head. If Ruan Chanchan was not scared out of her wits, she would have slapped this thing even if she knew that it was physically impossible. Ruan Chanchan peered at the more than foot-long teeth of the gigantic python and winced. Yup. If this thing bit her, it was going to hurt a lot.
The python hanging by the tree hissed at them again, and Ruan Chanchan felt a chill climb up her spine.
The sound of the hiss of the python rolled across the forest like rolling thunder, dragging through the sky. The sound was like a thousand nails being dragged through a stone. Yuan Ni, standing slightly ahead, summoned his bone staff and inhaled sharply. Even though he was a priest in training, he knew that he needed to protect Ruan Chanchan and Ruan Zeqiu, as he was the one who promised to take care of them.
He raised the bone staff in the air and muttered what sounded like a prayer mixed with a curse.
"Yuan Ni," Ruan Zeqiu said flatly, already raising his machete in the air. "Please tell you can deal with this thing, right?" Though he was a totem warrior, he had never faced such a thing before. He was worried that he alone might not be enough to deal with it.
Yuan Ni adjusted the bone staff in his hands and said, "I have been training for a long ti. A few days ago, I tried to summon angry river spirits, and I managed to do that. I think if I can summon spirits...I can deal with this snake as well."
Hearing his response, Ruan Zeqiu was filled with new hope. Maybe they might really be able to deal with it.
"But—"
"But?" Ruan Chanchan and Ruan Zeqiu turned to look at the r in front of them.
"But I have never dealt with such a thing before."
"Excellent," said Ruan Chanchan with a hint of fear and amusent. "We are all going to learn sothing new today." Now, either they were going to succeed or die trying.
The python’s body shifted, its scales started grinding against the treetops, the boulders and the stones, along with its tail flicking on the soil. It was so large that Ruan Chanchan had a feeling that it didn’t just move; it rearranged the entire landscape. The trees around it bent, and the rocks rolled down as the boulder cracked. Sowhere in the distance, sothing scread, and from the sound of it, it sounded like it was about to faint. And Ruan Chanchan had a feeling that she did understand his feeling as well. Because she was about to faint as well.
Maybe it was a bird, or maybe it was her own courage.
This thing was not just gigantic; it was terrifying.
Ruan Chanchan stepped back, and her gaze flicked. Not at the snake but past it, she could see the small mountain, though it was at quite a distance from where they were standing. Her gaze sharpened.
If only she could reach the small mountain, then maybe they might have a chance to survive, thought Ruan Chanchan.
"Sister," Ruan Zeqiu noticed the expression on the face of his sister and knew that she was planning sothing. "Whatever you are planning —drop it." His sister was not used to dealing with beasts; no matter how witty she was, there was no way she would be able to deal with this thing.
Seeing that his sister was not listening, Ruan Zeqiu turned to look at her and stated in a panicked voice, "Don’t...try anything stupid."
Hearing this, Ruan Chanchan turned and slapped his arm away. "This is not stupid... this is long-term planning!"
"What long-term planning? This is a giant snake that is determined to eat us."
"Yes," said Ruan Chanchan patiently. "But think about it carefully... this is what the totem warriors face every ti they co up the small mountains to collect water. Think about it, alright?"
The python lunged.
Ruan Zeqiu moved instantly. He raised the machete in the air and rushed at the snake as he brought it down and slashed across its snout. The strike barely nicked the scales of that humongous thing. The snake’s head slamd into the ground with a deafening bang.
Yuan Ni slamd his bone staff on the ground and ignited the talisman that his grandmother had given to him. He raised his hand and drew a seal that, with a flick, wrapped around the neck of the python. The seal stuck around the neck of the snake like angry stickers.
The python hissed just as angrily and flicked his gaze to the three people in front of him as if silently telling them—You’re all done for.
