After sending Pres away, Lorenzo sat for a while longer on the Iron Serpent. After a brief walk, the Lower City District gradually appeared at the edge of his vision.
The sky was gloomy, and the dilapidated houses appeared as if they were haphazardly piled together with mud and wood. There were many such buildings, like a bizarre and twisted forest where they grew unchecked.
In the cracks of these trees, Lorenzo could see soulless people behind them, gathered around stoves. The gentle light flickered in the darkness, extracting the only warmth to endure the grueling end of winter.
This is what most of the Lower City District’s inhabitants were like; unable to survive in this cold city, nor have the strength to leave, like trapped beasts, slowly rotting in the shadows.
Most young people capable of labor would enter factories. Although exhausting, the wages here were indeed much higher, offering at least more hope than the people in the Lower City District. The rest might choose to join gangs, though dangerous, at least ensuring survival in this twisted forest.
Lorenzo lit a cigarette, and a thin mist rose, slowly rging with countless gloomy clouds.
The muddy roads were also frozen solid due to the low temperature, making walking on them extrely uncomfortable.
However, Lorenzo didn’t mind those things at the mont. The people around him still wore unfriendly faces, but Lorenzo had no ti to waste on them this ti.
The Lower City District was practically a reflection of chaos, with most of Old Dunling’s gray industries circulating here. Beneath the filthy decay lay bloodstained gold.
Lorenzo’s arrival this ti was purely on a whim. There was no carriage driver to pick him up, and nobody knew of this; he was alone.
Like a hunter walking through a forest, searching for traces of prey.
"Florence..."
The detective muttered softly.
This city existed only in mory, and over the years, its impression had blurred. Only the past experiences remained vividly clear.
The days in Florence weren’t too bad, if not for the Night of the Holy Arrival that ruined everything. Although Lawrence, the main culprit, was dead, many mysteries remained unsolved.
For instance, why did Lawrence betray? He was a particularly unique Demon Hunter, arguably the longest-living and highest-ranking; he had everything, yet chose to set it all ablaze in the end.
This question might never have an answer now that Lawrence is dead, with his remaining flesh rged with the Black Angel. That guy was dead beyond doubt.
Sotis, life’s helplessness lies in the fact that many questions remain unanswered in the end.
But if not considering these, Lorenzo’s mind had ford so judgnt about the current situation. He suspected the stowaways were likely from Florence’s new Order, aiming for the ’Revelation’.
But the question is, where is the ’Revelation’?
Despite days of vigilance and searching, the Purification chanism remained fruitless.
Judging by the number of demons cultivated by Lawrence at that ti, there certainly was a large organization behind him. But after Lawrence’s death, that organization vanished as if it never existed, as though Lawrence’s death took everything related to him.
No, no one had ever seen anyone besides Lawrence. Lawrence had always appeared alone. Perhaps he didn’t have any accomplices?
Lorenzo felt a headache when he thought of this. He was sure that although Lawrence was dead, sothing he had planned continued in the dark. The disappearance of the ’Revelation’ was the best proof. In a dark corner, sinful blood was still being shaped.
Lorenzo abruptly stopped, looking towards a nearby holess man. Curled up in a corner, he seed to sense Lorenzo’s halt and stopped peering at him.
His movents were very secretive; without the keen insight of a Demon Hunter, perhaps no one would have noticed him at all.
Lorenzo chuckled; his thoughts, previously tangled like a ss, suddenly beca clear.
"You’ve been watching all along, right?"
The detective suddenly leaned in and squatted down.
The holess man seed a bit caught off guard by Lorenzo’s sudden enthusiasm. The Lower City District was not a good place, nor were its people; everyone lived cautiously, wary of those around them.
He retreated slightly; on his dirty, chaotic face, only his eyes were particularly clear.
"What... what do you want to do?"
The holess man asked warily, his curled hands already feeling a tallic object. In this place, everyone needed sothing for protection.
"Don’t be nervous, I just have a few questions..."
Lorenzo paid no mind to the rising hostility of the holess man. To a Demon Hunter, compared to the Demon, these guys were as harmless as little white rabbits.
"Which gang are you loyal to?" Lorenzo imdiately asked.
The holess man’s gaze instantly turned icy. He launched an attack imdiately, drawing a short dagger from his cloak, but Lorenzo was faster, standing up swiftly, pressing his wrist down with a foot as it began to lift.
"Calm down, I an no harm, I just want to ask so questions."
Lorenzo twisted his foot hard, causing the holess man to loosen his grip in pain. Then, Lorenzo kicked the short dagger away.
"Stop pretending. I’m no outsider; I’ve mixed around the Lower City District for so ti. I know exactly what you do."
