After the night of sharing a bed, Lacus and Flay's relationship finally improved a little. At the very least, Flay wouldn't constantly provoke her anymore.
As long as Flay didn't stir up trouble, soone with Lacus's personality naturally wouldn't go looking for it either.
The two of them maintained a harmonious and friendly atmosphere all the way back to Earth.
Upon returning to the New Misurugi Kingdom, after Reid settled Selene's research team and uploaded the Luminous Transmitter System to the database, Ange brought Salamandine to find him.
Since Salamandine didn't know about the existence of the Factory Module, Ange only brought her to the Camouflaged Laboratory Factory above ground, then contacted the Xia sisters to call Reid out.
However, when Reid arrived at the lounge, he saw Ange and Salamandine competing in a ga of indoor golf.
Then, as Ange scored, she gleefully declared her victory, pointed to her cheek, and happily said,
"As promised, a kiss."
Salamandine wore an expression that said, "What am I going to do with you?" before promptly giving her a kiss.
Seeing this, Reid suddenly felt he understood that classic lyric from his previous life: "I should be under the car, not inside it, watching how sweet you two are."
However, Ange clearly didn't think there was anything wrong with showing affection with another girl in front of Reid. After all, Reid showed off every day too. There was no rule in their ho that allowed only the officials to set fires while forbidding the common people from lighting lamps.
So after receiving her "prize," Ange even ran over to Reid to boast,
"Reid, see? I beat Salamandine. Now our score is 76:75, and I'm in the lead."
Hearing this, Reid thought to himself that he had only been gone for a few days, and the two of them had already competed 151 tis? Were they glued together 24 hours a day?
And the winner's prize definitely wasn't just a kiss every ti. The kiss punishnt was probably only this simple because other punishnts weren't convenient here. With Ange's personality, the gas they usually played were definitely more extravagant.
So Reid didn't hold back either. He gave Ange's cheek a loud "smack," indicating he had overwritten it.
At the sa ti, Reid decided he needed to have a good talk with Ange tonight. Her whole body needed to be "overwritten."
Ange and Reid were an old married couple, but in front of her "new fla," Salamandine, Ange now put on an act like a startled rabbit, instantly jumping away and saying,
"Reid~ what are you doing? Salamandine is watching."
Reid now wore the expression of an old man looking at his phone on the subway, indicating that Ange was overacting a bit—she had never been like this even during their passionate phase.
Seeing Reid's expression that said, "What new trick are you playing?" and noticing that Salamandine, who was watching the show, was already snickering, Ange knew her act had fallen apart.
So she imdiately returned to her usual deanor, waved her hand, and said unhappily,
"Tch, no fun. Reid, you could at least play along with ."
Reid asked, play along with what? Let Salamandine kiss him too? He didn't want to be labeled a pervert and get beaten up.
After all, after Reid enhanced his Dragon Gene, he could already fight Ange to a draw in hand-to-hand combat, which made him a bit overconfident.
Then, less than half an hour later, the True Dragon Salamandine told Reid that tying with Ange was useless. When it ca to humanoid hand-to-hand combat prowess, he was still second best.
Alright, so actually, Reid isn't even second best. The so-called "defeating Ange" just ans that Reid is no longer solely focused on training his body's ability to withstand blows like before.
In fact, Reid later enhanced the Dragon Gene for the Xia sisters as well, so he can't defeat those two either.
So at this point, Reid could only hold his head and ask,
"Alright, Ange, why did you call out? It's not just to have witness your competition with Salamandine, is it?"
Hearing Reid's question, Ange imdiately slapped her forehead and said,
"If you hadn't ntioned it, I would have forgotten. Reid, Zala has finalized the design plan for her Mobile Suit, which is why I brought her here."
After Ange finished speaking, Salamandine took a data disk out of her pocket and politely handed it to Reid, saying,
"Mr. Reid, could you please take a look at my design and see if there are any shortcomings?"
Reid was actually quite curious about what kind of Mobile Suit Salamandine had designed for herself in such a short ti, so he took the data disk and said,
"You're too polite. I'm looking forward to seeing Miss Salamandine's work."
After saying that, Reid walked over to the computer in the reception room and connected the data disk.
Then, Reid saw a highly creative design.
The Core Gundam Armor System.
This was the system Salamandine had constructed for her own Mobile Suit.
Reid could tell from the na that the core inspiration for this system was the Core Fighter System.
However, after reading further, Reid couldn't help but admire Salamandine's ingenuity.
The Core Gundam Armor System, as the na suggests, revolves around a core Gundam.
Salamandine had clearly studied the data of the Gundam Virtue and, combining it with the Core Fighter System and the Strike Gundam Pack System, ca up with this design.
The Mobile Suit Salamandine designed for herself was actually just a small MS, a little over 6 ters tall.
Moreover, this Mobile Suit had a disproportionately large head, housing a variety of the most advanced sensors and caras.
This small MS was powered by an AC Nuclear Fusion Reactor, with armor made of ordinary AC Gundanium Alloy. It featured a Psychofra but did not use a Panoramic Cockpit, and its special systems were limited to the Psycommu System and the Lambda Driver. Its weapons were just two Head Vulcan Guns.
Such a small Gundam lacked both combat capability and aesthetic appeal—if deployed on the battlefield, it would probably make the enemy laugh their heads off.
However, this Gundam was only the core; the real focus was on the armor.
In fact, what Salamandine referred to as "armor" was essentially other Gundams.
By using the Detachable Mobile Fra of the Ex-S Gundam, any Mobile Suit that didn't require extensive twisting or deformation could be turned into armor.
For example, the case Salamandine showed Reid was an illustration of the core Gundam equipped with Gundam Epyon armor.
(In the picture, it could only have short arms, but in reality, adding extra arm sleeves would be simple.)
Salamandine hollowed out the torso of the entire Gundam Epyon, turning it into an exoskeleton-like armor.
Think of it like Iron Man's Hulkbuster Armor—with additional arm and leg sleeves, and the backpack having independent attachnt points on the armor.
Moreover, the weapons and equipnt of the Mobile Suit armor could be modified. After all, it was just armor, so as long as the Mobile Suit could handle it, anything was possible.
This also explains why this Mobile Suit does not have a panoramic cockpit installed—to prevent the panoramic display from turning into blocky graphics or showing clusters of screen artifacts due to issues like cara count and interfaces when swapping armor (Gundam).
It must be said that this Core Gundam Armor System is actually quite well-designed.
By turning the Mobile Suit into armor, as long as multiple sets of armor are prepared, the Mobile Suit can handle all situations. Want to fight at range? It can do that. Want to engage in close combat? It can do that too.
Even if the armor (Mobile Suit) is damaged during battle, the Mothership can imdiately launch another set of armor, allowing for an on-the-spot replacent and a full recovery.
However, while the advantages of this system are obvious, the drawbacks are also laid out plainly.
First, the cost issue.
This Core Gundam Armor System requires at least four to five different sets of armor to handle various environnts and enemies.
And the cost of producing one set of armor isn't much less than building a Gundam.
The only good news in this regard is that there is little room for modifying the armor, so it only needs to be built according to the original Gundam design. Compared to the Gundams modified by Reid, this is far cheaper.
But with these four to five sets of armor, the cost would definitely be enough to build more than two non-Mythological-Grade Mobile Suits for Reid's team.
After the cost issue cos the space problem.
As ntioned earlier, each set of armor is essentially a Gundam. So even if these armors are stored flat, each set would occupy the space of one MS.
This isn't much of an issue for an ultra-large warship like the Gran Chaos, but for smaller ships like the Constellation-class, which can only carry eight MS, having one Mobile Suit take up more than half of the MS slots is simply not cost-effective.
It's important to rember that pilots capable of operating Mobile Suits of different styles, each with the combat power of four or five MS of the sa level, are absolutely rare as phoenix feathers.
Therefore, this Mobile Suit simply cannot be mass-produced due to its excessive space requirents.
After the space problem cos the combat capability issue.
Although this Core Gundam Armor System is flexible, the combat power of the Core Fighter equipped with one set of armor is only that of the armor itself.
Due to the absence of many special systems and the lack of dual power sources, various burst modes are naturally out of the question.
So in terms of pure Mobile Suit output, no matter what armor the Core Gundam wears, it is weaker than the other MS in Reid's Otherworld Assault Team.
Since the problems are so clear, Reid naturally needs to discuss with Salamandine how to solve them.
First, the cost issue can be temporarily ignored. This Core Gundam Armor System is a worthwhile experint. Even if it costs the equivalent of ten main Mobile Suits, Reid would approve it, let alone just two when considering all factors.
After all, what can be determined by re speculation? MS performance must be evaluated in actual combat.
As for the space problem, Reid thinks that since they are just armor, there's no need to store them in their complete state when not in use.
The biggest advantage of the Detachable Mobile Fra is that it can be assembled and disassembled on the fly. It would be better to slightly increase the cost of producing the MS armor and modularize the armor by parts.
This way, they can be stacked to reduce space usage while also enhancing the modification potential of each component.
Upon hearing this, Salamandine was instantly inspired. After a discussion among the three present, they designed a special arm armor on the spot.
Arm Armor: Dragon Roar Cannon.
(For the image below, just look at the additional equipnt on the right arm.)
This is an arm armor that combines a cannon and a fist.
It contains an independent pseudo solar furnace engine that can provide anti-gravity to prevent the Mobile Suit from losing lateral balance due to the weight of this cannon.
A single pseudo solar furnace engine independently powers the super GN bazooka concealed within the arm. In terms of destructive power on the scale of a Mobile Suit, this rivals the destroyer beam cannon.
Additionally, this arm has its own independent propulsion system, and the top of the arm armor features a ramming horn made of Phase Shift Armor material, ensuring it can pierce through anything.
The cannon muzzle is normally blocked by a massive fist.
The fist is made of specially crafted material. When needed, it can generate high heat equivalent to that of a thermal blade, perfectly capable of cosplaying a golden hand.
Against ordinary Mobile Suits, this fist in its high-heat mode can genuinely lt a hole straight through the Mobile Suit's armor with a single punch.
This fist was naturally Reid's design. Salamandine had originally only intended to use upper and lower closing arm armor to block the muzzle, incidentally gaining an arm-mounted lance with spikes.
However, Reid believed in going all the way with the act. During battle, the opponent would think you were throwing a punch, only for the fist to transform into a pitch-black cannon muzzle right before their eyes.
He imagined that any Mobile Suit pilot facing this situation would be cursing from beyond the grave about being tricked, feeling utterly wronged in death.
The re thought of this scene excited Reid so much that he wanted to install similar arm armor on his own Mobile Suit.
At this mont, Salamandine seed to be seeing Reid in a new light. During her days in the New Misurugi Kingdom, she hadn't neglected to inquire among the populace about Reid's reputation.
But the answers she received all spoke of how incredibly talented and great Reid was, even calling him a guide for humanity's future.
So extremists even spoke of Reid with faces full of reverence.
This led Salamandine to suspect Reid might be founding so kind of religion.
Fortunately, law enforcent officers in Star Palace City, seeing soone actively promoting the "human guide" theory—which the Chairman of the Military Committee had denied—to a tourist (Salamandine), stepped in to disperse them.
This dispelled Salamandine's notion that Reid was creating a deity.
However, now looking at the man before her excitedly discussing how to trick people on the battlefield, Salamandine felt Reid was quite down-to-earth, completely unlike a future candidate for a deity managing a multiverse.
Yes, Salamandine still regarded Reid as a god.
This was because in Salamandine's world, Aura was the Dragon God, and she herself was the Dragon Priestess.
Therefore, Reid, who clearly had the future opportunity to govern all universes, naturally appeared as a god in Salamandine's eyes.
It was just that this god was currently in an observation period and possessed no divine power himself.
At this mont, Reid had no idea what Salamandine was thinking.
The slight reverence Salamandine felt toward Reid was misinterpreted by him as admiration for his battlefield trickery tips.
Similar to praise like, "Brother, how are you so good at this ga?"
So, after mostly resolving the spatial issues and incidentally designing a trick weapon, Reid, feeling the Mobile Suit's mobility was still sowhat lacking, proactively suggested:
"The armants can stay as they are for now, but let's replace the thrusters on this Gundam Epyon armor with the luminous transmitter system I just acquired.
With just so modifications to the energy charging thod, this system can beco a halo propulsion wing system capable of instantaneous high-speed bursts. It will significantly enhance the mobility of the Epyon armor."
"Since this Mobile Suit is a test unit and the Epyon armor is also test equipnt, we might as well test the Halo Propulsion Wing System along with it."
Reid wanted to install a new system to enhance mobility on the test armor, and Salamandine naturally had no reason to refuse. However, she still asked,
"No problem, but speaking of testing, where will we conduct it? Do I need to go directly to the front lines? I've been here for so many days—Gekko and the others all have their assigned tasks, while I've just been eating and drinking for free. It feels a bit awkward."
Upon hearing this, Reid remarked that Salamandine certainly hadn't been freeloading—Ange had probably taken full advantage of her.
Nevertheless, Reid smiled and answered the question:
"You will go to the front lines, but not in this universe.
I'm heading to a new universe next to acquire so goods, and there will definitely be fighting involved. Salamandine, you can co along and test this... oh, right, have you nad this core Mobile Suit yet?"
To this question, Salamandine replied with a smile:
"Of course. This child is called the Phantom Dragon Gundam."
