But now, Shalltear only wanted to find a secluded corner to eat, as she hadn't eaten for half a day. Thinking of this, Shalltear attached a monitoring spider to her forehead to act as a mobile cara and planned to take so blood sausages from her Tactical Vest to fill her stomach. However, just then, she was distracted by a scene on the street.
She was at the edge of the residential area, near tall buildings resembling barns used for magical animal hospitals. Several wizards opened the door to one of these buildings and pushed out an iron cage containing a Thunderbird.
"This is the young Thunderbird that Alan has been tracking? They've been keeping it in solitary confinent all along."
Shalltear beca alert. She had been searching for this Thunderbird all night. She had scoured every breeding pen in the base but couldn't find it, and she had almost been taken as a midnight snack by those fierce animals. There were indeed many high-risk creatures in this base; she had seen eight dragons of various types, not to ntion extrely ferocious creatures like Griffins, Chiras, and Manticores.
She withdrew and quickly crawled along the eaves and roofs of the pens, following the wizards who were escorting the Thunderbird. They pushed the cage, making several turns before stopping outside a pen covered with a weather blanket in the middle ring. One wizard cautiously approached the cage to open it, while others nervously drew their wands and stood guard.
"Damn it, it just settled down today, why do they have to send it back to Shed 26? Aren't they afraid this Thunderbird will go wild again? If it happens again, it won't just be one or two people getting hurt; last ti, my face was almost scratched," one wizard grumbled, his mood sour.
"There's no other way; Shed 4 is being used for a Nundu giving birth today. You know how dangerous that kind of animal is; one wrong move and it might poison everything around it, so it must be cleared out." Another wizard shook his head, then comforted the first. "But don't worry too much. The attendant responsible for the night watch in Shed 4 said this fellow has been calm since last night, and the manic symptoms are gone."
"These creatures are always like this; they go wild when they're in a bad mood. This Thunderbird is still easy to handle. The Ukrainian Ironbelly we have to deal with in Shed 34 later is the real trouble. Who knows what bothered it last night; it breathes fire whenever it sees people. The attendant who went to feed it this morning was almost burned to death."
The first wizard's face turned ugly. "Oh my God, that is truly bad news. I'd rather face three young Thunderbirds at once than a Ukrainian Ironbelly. I think Mr. Clent might consider giving us a raise. I feel like I'm going to die in the jaws of these animals sooner or later."
"Jimmy, stop complaining…" The leader of the group reprimanded him loudly. "Mr. Clent is already good enough to us; otherwise, you'd still be doing odd jobs in a tavern. Less nonsense, quickly get this Thunderbird settled."
"I'm not complaining, Captain, I just think our daily work is much more dangerous than those guys who wander around outside all day, but why do the good things always get prioritized for them?" Jimmy retorted stubbornly.
"Good things? What are you referring to?" The leader paused, then realized. "Ah, you're talking about those protective vests."
"Exactly! Matthew, who was on patrol last night, told those vests can automatically cast a Humanoid Iron Armor Curse. With that equipnt, we'd be much safer." Jimmy winked at his companions. "By the way, don't say I told you. This is a secret Matthew shared with ."
"Matthew? That big mouth again." The leader shook his head. This Matthew, relying on being Mr. Clent's nephew, idled around all day with a loose tongue.
"Is this true, Captain?"
"Is that vest really that magical? I thought it was just new standard clothing."
"When can we also be equipped with such items?"
Several wizards beca interested and bombarded the leader with questions.
"Alright, alright!" The leader scolded them, then appeased them with a gentle tone. "It's true, but that equipnt isn't cheap. For now, it can only be prioritized for the Patrol Team, as their tasks are more dangerous."
"Dangerous, my foot!" Jimmy mumbled indignantly. "Captain, you know very well that everyone knows patrolling is the easiest job in this park. When has the Patrol Team ever really encountered danger? They just wander around outside, enjoy the scenery, and get paid more. We're the ones who truly suffer; we face the risk of being killed by animals every day!"
"Captain!" Jimmy looked at the leader sincerely. "Can you ntion it to Mr. Clent and ask him to consider us laborers? I don't want to go ho missing an arm or a leg. Didn't you see how miserable John was a few days ago when he was stung by a Billywig and floated around in the sky?"
Jimmy kept nagging the leader with complaints, and the sentint affected those around him. The leader's expression beca difficult. He agreed with so of what Jimmy said; he knew how dangerous dealing with these animals was. Those Patrol Teams enjoyed generous benefits while rarely undertaking risks. To be honest, he felt a bit unbalanced.
He felt a sense of being universally supported. Perhaps I can suggest it to Mr. Clent? He could always push the bla onto these team mbers later.
"Alright…" The leader pondered and nodded. "When Mr. Clent appears tonight, I can ntion it to him, but if he blas us, don't you guys chicken out."
"No problem. When he asks, we'll say it's everyone's collective opinion."
"Long live the Captain! Tonight, I'll treat you to a glass of rare Firewhisky; it's a specialty of East Germany, and you can't even buy it now."
"That's how it should be, Captain. I believe Mr. Clent won't casually bla you when faced with a reasonable suggestion."
The energized wizards started working cheerfully, constantly flattering the leader. anwhile, the young Thunderbird was surprisingly well-behaved, and the wizards managed to settle it back into its shed with little effort. They attributed this to the Captain's profound understanding, believing it symbolized that their efforts to secure benefits would go smoothly.
Shalltear, observing from the roof, saw everything. She had the spider on her head, aning Alan and Hog outside would receive this information.
*Will Milan Claremont appear tonight? It seems Mr. Clent cos to the base every day, or every few days. Tonight, I might be able to follow this leader and probe his true strength.*
She made a ntal note. However, the most important thing right now was to connect with the young Thunderbird. She believed that with Alan's cunning, he wouldn't have failed to ntion her to the bird, so she wasn't worried about being attacked. In contrast, she thought this group of wizards might have to be more careful, because she was the one who had angered that Ukrainian Ironbelly last night, and that fellow had a bad temper.
