In the gusting wind, Sophia’s long hair whipped through the air as she locked eyes with Magnus. Without warning, she pivoted sharply, swinging a powerful kick toward his face. Magnus tilted just enough to evade, then grabbed her ankle and yanked down. Sophia lost her footing and spun mid-air, imdiately launching another kick at his chest.
She was a Female Special Forces captain, no doubt skilled, but Magnus had survived nine brutal months in the previous life - his combat instincts just as sharp. He didn’t dodge. He took the hit head-on, chest taut, while his other hand clamped her lower leg.
Despite taking a hit, he now had both her legs and started marching toward the armored vehicle, hauling her like ga over his shoulder.
Sophia’s heart nearly jumped to her throat. "Magnus! Put down right now! You hear ? Let go! What the hell do you think you’re doing?"
"You wanna get down? Fine."
Magnus dumped her hard onto the ground.
Before Sophia could scramble away, he was on her again. He wrenched her arms behind her back in one swift, brutal motion, hauled her upright, and shoved her face-first onto the hood of the vehicle. The tal burned hot against her skin. One hand clamped tight over her wrists, pinning them in place. The other shoved her head forward, forcing her cheek to the steel - then his mouth crashed down on hers.
Right there, in full view from the car, Magnus kissed her - hard and raw. No hesitation. No warning.
Sophia froze, her mind short-circuiting. Her body tensed, every nerve screaming. She could still hear the low growl in his throat, feel the way his lips claid hers like a punishnt.
Just as the air began to choke in her lungs, her instincts snapped back online.
She bit down - hard.
Magnus jerked back fast, as if expecting it, breath rough, eyes wild. A sharp glint of pain crossed his face, but the snarl that followed was feral.
"That’s what you get for mocking . Got it?" he hissed between clenched teeth. "Try that shit again, and this is how I’ll deal with you. You think you can keep testing ?"
"Magnus, you bastard! How dare you!? I’ll kill you!" Sophia thrashed with everything she had, but it was useless. His awakened strength was leagues beyond hers. She hadn’t awakened - she didn’t stand a chance.
"You still wanna play tough?" he spat, and slamd her back down.
This ti, he didn’t go for her mouth. He pinned her tighter, his breath hot at her ear. Slowly, deliberately, he dragged his lips across her cheek... then lower, across the curve of her jaw... down her neck.
She shrieked, struggling harder, but he didn’t stop.
His free hand slid from her pinned wrists down her spine, trailing the curve of her back until it found the hem of her shirt. Fingers slipped underneath - rough and unforgiving - palming the bare skin of her waist before sliding up, grazing the underside of her breast through the thin fabric of her bra.
"Magnus!" she scread, voice cracking with fury and panic. "I swear - I’ll kill you! I’ll - "
The shriek carried through the car windows.
Inside, the three won froze, eyes wide.
Then chaos.
Helts flew on. Doors slamd open.
"Get off her!"
"Magnus, what the hell!?"
They yanked at Magnus, trying to pry him off - but then, a gunshot cracked behind them.
Magnus felt a sudden chill under his ribs. Looking down, blood was already soaking through his shirt, welling from a fresh red hole in his gut.
On the other side stood Sophia, chest heaving, both hands locked around a pistol - squarely aid where the bullet had landed.
She hadn’t even believed it herself. The gun slipped from her hands. Screams burst out as Abigail, Emma, and Grace hurried to catch Magnus.
First thing that flashed through Magnus’ head - this ti, they really went too far.
"Magnus, are you okay?! We have dicine! Where’s the dicine?!" Emma cried, voice trembling.
Abigail looked stunned, mumbling, "Magnus... Magnus..." Her lips quivered so much she couldn’t speak clearly.
"Sis! What the hell did you just do?! Are you insane?!" Grace’s legs went limp as she collapsed to the ground.
"I-I-I didn’t an to... I really didn’t..." Sophia stared, dazed, at Magnus sprawled on the ground as Abigail frantically pressed her hands against the bloody hole in his abdon.
"Sophia! You damn...!" Magnus gritted his teeth in pain, but still activated the Life Crystal quietly. "I’m fine. Abigail, let handle it myself."
Abigail quickly nodded and let go. Magnus’s right hand filled with a soft white mist as he pressed it over his wound. With a quiet push, the bullet popped right out, and a tingling itch crept across the closing skin...
Seconds later, the mist faded. Magnus clutched the blood-slick bullet between his fingers and let out a long breath, cursing Sophia in his heart - this woman hit way too hard.
Emma and Abigail, having seen Magnus use this power before - back when he saved Dana and the others - suddenly realized what was going on. Joy rose in their chests, but just as they were about to speak up, Magnus shot them a quick look. They both shut their mouths instantly.
Grace, who hadn’t witnessed it before, stood there clueless. Neither had Sophia. They had no idea he had this power. Grace burst into tears, stord over to her sister, and gave her a fierce shove. "Sophia! Are you out of your mind?! Do you even know what you just did?!"
Sophia staggered back and fell to the ground. She didn’t try to get up. Just sat there, blank-eyed, muttering, "If he dies, I’ll live as his widow..."
"Widow? What good is that?! Sitting in mourning won’t bring him back! Sophia, I - " Grace didn’t bother finishing. She turned and rushed to Magnus, kneeling beside him as tears spilled down. "Magnus, hang in there! I’ll take you to Cliff in Springvale City, they’ve got military doctors - just hold on..."
"Save your strength. It’s no use," Magnus said weakly. "Grace, get your sister. I’ve got two questions for her."
"Okay! Okay! Wait here, I’ll drag her over if I have to!" Grace turned around sharply - but found Sophia already standing there behind her.
Sophia slowly knelt beside Magnus, her legs giving out beneath her as the weight of guilt crushed down. Her gaze dropped to his blood-sared hand clamped over his abdon - wound fresh, breath shallow.
All because of her.
Silent tears spilled down her cheeks. She bent forward, shoulders trembling, voice barely a whisper.
"I’ll do as I promised... I’ll stay a widow for you..."
Then she looked up - and Magnus was still watching her, his golden eyes dark, unreadable.
Her breath caught.
There was no resistance when she leaned down. No hesitation. Their lips t in a kiss ant to be goodbye.
But it didn’t feel like goodbye.
Her mouth moved against his - soft at first, but then hungrier, as if sothing inside her snapped. Her hand cupped his cheek, thumb brushing the blood at the corner of his lips. Her other hand gripped his shoulder with trembling urgency, like she was afraid he’d vanish the mont she let go.
The kiss deepened.
He responded - not with the weakness of a dying man, but with slow, deliberate pressure. His fingers found her waist, just enough to pull her closer. Heat blood between them, raw and unexpected. Their lips clung, parted, t again. She whimpered into him, breath hitching as her heart pounded out of rhythm.
Grace sat frozen, eyes wide, lips parted in disbelief.
Five minutes passed.
The kiss didn’t stop.
Sophia had completely lost track of ti. Her body pressed against his. Her tears sared across his cheek. The blood between them didn’t seem to matter. Her lips were still moving, slow and reverent, like she was trying to morize him, brand him into mory.
Grace finally turned away, too overwheld to watch.
She expected to hear sobbing, the broken gasps of soone mourning a corpse.
But when she looked back -
They were still kissing.
Still tangled together like no one else existed.
"...Sis," Grace blinked, stunned. She turned to the Doyle sisters for so kind of reaction - only to find them casually dispatching another centipede, clearly bored.
"Magnus... Sophia... are you two ever gonna stop?!"
No response.
Just the soft, wet sound of lips eting again and again.
And sowhere, deep in Magnus’s throat, a quiet laugh rumbled against her mouth - so low only she could feel it.
