Emma strolled quietly through the hotel’s hallways as her boots crunched softly against the carpet while she buttoned up her Russian army greatcoat.

Then—

"Jenna!"

Isaac ca sprinting around the corner as his eyes darted left and right like a man who’d lost his wallet and his sanity both.

His chest rose and fell heavily.

Sweat stuck his hair against his forehead.

He nearly flew past her... until his head snapped back like a reel being yanked.

"Huh—!?"

He skidded to a halt.

Emma tilted her chin faintly as his gaze locked onto her.

"Emma...?"

He hurriedly jogged back to her as his boots thudded against the hallway floor.

"Hey—almost didn’t see you there."

He gave her a once-over, then twice.

His grin went crooked.

The sa look Scott had on his face when he saw Emma was the sa one Isaac had.

"Knowing you, I’m betting there’s either nothing or sothing ridiculously skimpy under that coat... Scott’s a lucky bastard, can’t even lie."

He rubbed his chin in thought as he chuckled lightly.

Emma looked down at herself as if surprised she was wearing anything at all. Her pale hands pressed against the coat front, then slowly lifted back to her sides.

She didn’t answer. Just... stared at him.

That silence strangled the hallway.

Isaac shifted. His throat bobbed.

This was Emma.

There had never been a ti when he couldn’t find words with her.

And now it felt like he was drowning in awkwardness.

"Uh..."

He cleared his throat and looked around.

"So, uhm... did you... get a tan?"

It slipped right out.

He imdiately regretted it, but it was true—her skin was noticeably darker (a bit olive-colored) like soone had painted over her with dusk.

Emma’s lips parted faintly. Nothing ca out.

"..."

Her eyes were blank, still nailed into him.

Isaac forced another crooked smile, though his nerves were screaming.

"Uhm, aha... guess that’s private."

He nervously rubbed the back of his neck as he tried to keep his voice light.

"Forget I said anything."

But then he snapped his fingers suddenly like the thought had just co to him.

"Oh yeah—!"

He hurriedly leaned in close.

"I’m looking for Jenna. She went out earlier, but she hasn’t co back yet. It’s... stupid, but I’m kinda worried. You know how she is sotis."

His voice dropped lower, as if he felt guilty.

Maybe if he didn’t act too forward about his feelings then he wouldn’t have ruined this getaway.

"I know I shouldn’t be telling you of all people this, but... if I can’t be honest with you, then maybe she was right about all along."

Emma blinked once and then let the stillness hang until his shoulders grew stiff under it.

Finally, she spoke up.

"You’ll never be half the man Scott McQueen is."

Her voice was so flat and calm.

It felt like drops of cold water running down a stone.

Isaac froze.

His mouth opened, but nothing ca.

He blinked once. Twice.

"I... I—what?"

Emma clasped both hands against her breasts and gave him an empty smile.

"I’m in control of this body, so I know what this woman feels. She feels strongly about Scott. You’ll never have a place in her heart, no matter how desperately you desire it. No matter what you do for her. Even if you tear every flesh and break every bone in your body..."

Her boots clicked as she closed the distance until her lips hovered just by his ear.

"You’ll always be nothing to her..."

The words burrowed into him like blades.

Isaac staggered back with eyes shockingly wide.

His hands trembled, and his fingers kept twitching like they couldn’t decide whether to curl into fists or scratch out the pain in his chest.

He forced a high and broken laugh.

"Ahahaha... wh-, what are you talking about...?!"

His hands stuffed into his pockets.

"You’re not making any sense!"

His voice grew louder—maybe it was his own way of trying to hold back his tears.

Emma’s hand delicately pressed against his chest, right over his sternum. She leaned her head against him as if listening to his heartbeat.

Then that sa empty smile ca again.

"So pitifully easy to break."

Her palm snapped forward.

CRACK!

Isaac’s chest sank inward as the force broke a bone.

He let out a sharp gasp, blood spraying from his mouth before he collapsed onto the carpet.

His vision grew hazy, and no matter how hard he tried, his body wouldn’t move.

Emma bent down, scooped him up onto her shoulder with ease, and adjusted her coat as if nothing had happened.

"Good boy..."

She sounded mockingly sweet.

"I’ll have my fun with you first... then I’ll break every man in this pitiful establishnt under my wheel. Mael... he’ll be saved for last."

She quietly walked down the hall.

・・・

anwhile—

The front doors of the mansion hotel burst open, and Scott and Jenna slipped outside, both half-dressed in overcoats and gloves. Their breath fogged in the winter air as they scanned the snowy grounds.

A full minute passed. Nothing.

Jenna groaned as both hands clutched her head.

"I give up! We’re never gonna find them! It’s like they vanished off the face of the earth."

She dropped her arms and kicked a block of snow.

Scott appeared from the side garden.

"I know we’re supposed to be searching, but... what in the world possessed you to do that?"

Jenna threw her arms out frustratedly.

"Like I said before, I don’t know!"

Her eyes were so wide they looked like they’d pop out.

It was like watching a crazy woman explain herself.

"I completely blanked!"

She pinched her nose bridge and groaned.

"God, I sound insane..."

Scott studied her quietly, then his face softened a little.

"So uh... you don’t rember?"

He gestured vaguely at himself.

"All this?"

Jenna tilted her head, confused.

"Hm?"

Scott gestured again, more exaggerated this ti, like he was presenting a five-star entrée.

"All this?"

Her eyes widened when she realized what he ant.

"WHAT—!? GOD NO!"

She recoiled instantly like she’d just recalled a war cri.

But then Jenna suddenly hooked as sothing hit her.

"Wait, wait, wait...!"

She quickly pointed at Scott.

"If you’re saying I saw you naked... does that an you saw —? No, no, no!"

Her voice cracked terribly, and she couldn’t even finish the sentence. Just the thought alone made her stomach twist like she was about to throw up.

Scott gave a slow, guilty nod.

"Well, uhm... ( ◔ ₃◔)"

Scott scratched his cheek.

"Uhh... I kinda did more than see—"

Her fist shot up in reflex.

"YOU PERVERT!"

He leaned back with both hands raised as he chuckled very nervously.

"I was joking! Joking! You were the one making most of the advances, okay? I wouldn’t do anything with you. You’re like... the last person I’d do it with."

He mumbled the last part under his breath.

Her hand lowered as her anger turned to curiosity.

"What do you an by that? (๑•̌.•̑๑)"

Scott shifted his weight as he looked elsewhere.

"Well... you don’t exactly like . So when you were acting that way, yeah—I was shocked. I’m not stupid. I can tell when soone hates . Your mood flips whenever I’m around Emma. Or Nadia."

His tone dipped a bit.

"No, no... I—"

Jenna’s first instinct was to argue, but she stopped.

It didn’t take much thought to realize she had been awful to him.

Her lips pressed tight as guilt settled in.

She sighed defeatedly.

"You’re right. I haven’t been fair to you."

She looked down, ashad.

"I always pictured Emma ending up with Isaac. He was there when she was at her lowest, pulled her back up, made her the big market hero she is now. And then you show up—a young pretty boy making out with her, doing things I thought Isaac should’ve been doing. It sorta... pissed off."

She looked back at Scott with a softer expression.

"But you’re Nightwatch. You’ve gone through hell carrying that mantle. Maybe I was wrong about you."

She extended her hand with a small, warm smile.

"I’m sorry. Friends?"

Scott stared at her hand, then up at her.

He nodded, taking it.

"Friends."

They smiled affectionately at each other.

For quite a long ti as well.

Then—

BEEP! BEEP!

A chi erupted from Scott’s high-tech wristwatch.

He glanced down sharply and tapped its surface to bring up a web of glowing holographic screens.

Jenna stepped closer as her eyes widened.

"What’s that?"

"Surveillance."

Scott pointed from screen to screen.

"After the weird screams last night, I got a little paranoid and sent drones to patrol the area. Haven’t checked the feeds since—I didn’t want Emma knowing I was still on Overwatch duty during vacation. But—"

"LOOK THERE!"

Jenna cut him off as she urgently stabbed her finger at one of the screens.

Scott’s eyes darted where she pointed—

And his veins froze over.

On the screen, the grainy night-vision footage showed the Brazilian model from before dragging the mutilated body of the Arnian politician across the snowy ground. His arms dangled, bent backward at inhuman angles as his head rolled limply against the ice as if the neck was snapped three tis over.

Jenna squeezed her face and gagged.

"That’s so... I can’t even—"

Her hand shot up to cover her mouth as she painfully fought the urge to vomit.

Scott’s jaw tightened as he tapped another screen.

The feed flickered—then there she was again, the sa model, pulling the corpses of security guards with their uniforms shredded and stained with so much blood that it left crimson trails in the snow.

Scott narrowed his eyes.

"I think we’ve found our suspect."

His voice was flat and grim.

But then both their eyes went still.

Another feed, from a drone deeper in the woods.

It was Jenna this ti.

Walking calmly through the forest like a sleepwalker.

Jenna blinked rapidly.

"Oh yeahhh..."

She clutched the sides of her head.

"It’s coming back to now. I rember taking a walk after Isaac and I had THE talk."

The footage showed her running into the model.

The creature grabbed Jenna’s shoulders—then its head cracked open with a wet, splitting sound, and a glowing red gem pulsed inside.

Both Scott and Jenna recoiled at once, their faces twisted in disgust as the footage played on—the gem slithered from the model into Jenna, phasing into her skull like liquid light.

The model’s body collapsed like a husk.

Jenna’s knees buckled, and she stumbled back from the hologram.

"I can’t believe this... I really was possessed by whatever that thing was."

Her eyes trembled with guilt.

"It doesn’t make any sense, or it... it does—imagine if I hurt Isaac. Or Emma."

She glanced at Scott.

"...Or you."

Scott quickly waved it off like it was nothing.

"That’s not what we should be worried about."

He signaled her sharply and pointed to the screen again.

New footage was coming in.

Emma—carrying Isaac’s limp body on her shoulder as she walked in the sa direction the Brazilian model had dragged the corpses.

Scott’s expression hardened in an instant.

"We have to go. Now!"

He shot off running with Jenna right behind him.

But then, Scott’s pocket buzzed.

He pulled out his glasses and slapped them on.

BEEEEP!

The HUD flared to life across his vision.

"What’s wrong?"

The System’s voice echoed in his head.

[Scan complete. Wide-range detection over Lebedev Estate confirms the red gem is linked to extraterrestrial tech within the hotel. After cross-referencing signatures, results suggest Pontiach origin.]

Scott blinked hard as his chest tightened.

"That... actually makes sense..."

When Ezel first ca to Earth, she slept with every man she could find—and almost every ti, she ended up wrecking their pelvises like they were made of crackers. The victims here were going through the sa thing, so it had to be a Pontiach.

It fit too perfectly.

Scott swiped his HUD with his eyes to pull up a holo map of the North Pole.

"Good a ti as any to use it..."

He zood into the massive Overwatch Arctic Base.

He accessed the deep storage protocols.

"Deploy fifty Murderbots on a Dragoon Jet."

He finally got the chance to use most of the tech he hadn’t touched before. Together with Gadget Girl, he upgraded so of the assistant robots and turned them into two different types.

The first were guardbots—they ca with a few weapons and a ton of defensive systems, making them the perfect security detail for Overwatch Headquarters.

The second were the far more dangerous murderbots.

He loaded them with every deadly weapon he could think of, from plasma saws to high-powered laser blasters. They were so destructive that Emma made him lock all of them away in his North Pole Arctic Base, which he used as a secure storage site for anything too dangerous to keep nearby.

『Told her they’d co in handy, heh!

In the North Pole, a massive high-tech facility sat hidden at the base of a frozen mountain.

Its machinery rumbled deep underground.

Suddenly, the ground shook like an earthquake that made the frozen earth tremble. Even the polar bears and penguins scattered like birds to crawl away from the noise.

The roof of the facility slowly split apart, and from inside, a sleek silver fighter jet rose upward. Its wings rotated smoothly and locked into place as it prepared for flight. The jet was powered by twin hypersonic boosters, capable of reaching Russia in just minutes.

No living creature could safely ride it. The speed and pressure were so extre that any passenger would literally burst into blood.

It was THAT dangerous.

Scott blinked off his glasses and jogged straight back into the mansion.

Jenna blinked rapidly after him.

"Wait—where the hell are you going?"

He didn’t slow down.

"No ti—just follow !"

"Unbelievable..."

Jenna groaned and exhaustedly clutched her hair as she chased after him.

・・・

Monts later—

Beth ca rushing into the reception hall—Scott and Jenna storming in behind her. Beth was pale, rubbing her temples like she was about to lose it.

"Look—I can’t even start explaining how ridiculous this sounds! Alien tech? Mind possession? That’s all a bunch of sci-fi crap. It’s not possible."

Scott cut her off as he scanned the hall.

"I showed the guest the footage. She didn’t even believe she was the one who killed the politician. And the five dead guards? Sa story. Sothing’s happening."

Jenna nodded grimly beside him.

Beth folded her arms and let out a dry laugh.

"I know we live in a superpowered world, but you’re telling so auction-piece ’alien relic’ is doing all this? Be serious. Those things barely light up."

She was trying to stay composed.

But she couldn’t the uneasiness in her eyes.

Scott held out his hand.

"Give the tech. Now. I’ll take care of it."

Beth hesitated—then sighed, turned, and fetched the strange energy sphere.

Inside, a pulsing octagonal disc glowed faintly.

"Great..."

Scott muttered as he snatched it from her.

He cracked the sphere open and pulled the disc free.

His thumb brushed over the alien inscriptions.

A sudden weight sank into his chest, like the disc was alive and tied to him.

"Feels so—"

His glasses lit up.

[Scan complete. Artifact identified: Pontiach Cognitive Core. Stored consciousness—General Endra.]

Scott froze.

Beth frowned. "Scott?"

Jenna stepped closer. "Scott? Hey—are you good?"

"SCOTT!!"

He jerked his head up suddenly, blinking as if surfacing from deep water.

"Uhhh, yeah. Yeah, I’m here."

"You sure?" Jenna pressed, brows knitted.

Scott forced a nod.

"The tech’s old. I’m guessing it was fried after one use. I can fix it... reverse-engineer it... maybe extract rather than implant mories."

His words tumbled fast.

Neither Beth nor Jenna fully understood—but the conviction in his tone was enough.

Scott gave them a quick wave.

"I’ll be back in a jiff!"

And then he bolted out the mansion doors.

・・・

anwhile—

Isaac coughed violently and his blood sprayed into the snow as he crawled weakly across the ice.

His body scread with every movent.

"Emma—"

He choked in a hoarse voice.

"You... have to stop this—!"

A shadow lood.

Emma pounced like a beast, and the ground exploded beneath her landing.

A crater blood where Isaac had just rolled away.

He stared at it wide-eyed. That would’ve been him.

"When did she—"

He coughed up thick blood.

"—get so strong, achk—!"

His wrist-device humd as nanites rushed down his arm to form a sleek armored glove.

He aid it at her and charged a plasma beam.

The port on his palm glowed powerfully.

"I’m sorry... I have to do this to you..."

But before the shot could fire—

She blitzed forward in a blur.

Her hand wrapped his gauntlet and gripped his fingers.

CRUNCH.

Isaac’s scream blasted out as his fingers shattered like glass inside tal.

"AHHHHHHRRRRRGGGHHHH!"

He could feel every bone being crushed.

And all Emma did was smile.

"Be still and let have my fun..."
