This ti, with Dumbledore present, they reached the town in just the blink of an eye.
The feeling of Side-Along Apparition was quite unpleasant, but Wade had already learned how to adjust himself during rapid spatial transitions. After taking a few deep breaths, he recovered from the dizziness and nausea.
"Feeling better?" Dumbledore asked.
"Yeah." Wade nodded, looked around, compared the scenery with what he had seen from above, and then headed toward the small road on his right.
"This way—I rember the inn should be in this direction."
Apparition always ca with a loud pop. Even for a skilled wizard like Dumbledore, he could only minimize the sound but not eliminate it completely.
Vampires have sharp hearing, so to avoid being detected, Dumbledore had chosen a landing point two to three hundred ters away from the inn.
After that, the two cast Disillusionnt Charms, Notice--Not Charms, Shielding Spells, and Muffliato Charms to conceal themselves before proceeding along the concrete road.
As they walked, Wade lowered his voice and told Dumbledore, in detail, everything he had seen and heard earlier.
"I've never fought vampires before, so I was worried I wouldn't be able to handle them… And if they turned into bats and managed to escape, it could lead to problems in the future…"
Dumbledore's voice, filled with approval, seed to co from thin air:
"Being cautious is the right approach. I'm glad to see you didn't recklessly charge in."
"There is a spell specifically designed to deal with vampires. It's not in our standard textbooks, but if you take the advanced Charms class, you might have the chance to learn it from Filius."
"What spell?" Wade asked.
Dumbledore replied, "The Sunlight Charm, also known as Embrace the Sun."
Wade searched his mory. "I've never heard of it before."
"Of course not, because this spell has been classified as a forbidden curse. The Ministry of Magic prohibits it from being taught in schools—because it can cause severe harm to non-wizard half-humans, naly vampires, and endanger their lives."
Wade was speechless for a mont.
So, the safety of vampires is important, but what about the wizards who encountered them?
Dumbledore seed to understand his thoughts and slowly said, "I once heard Nicolas Flal say that five hundred years ago, vampire influence was at its peak."
"At that ti, Muggle society was plagued by disease, and many infected wizards suffered as well. But vampires, being powerful, adept at hiding, and immune to the virus, began expanding their numbers on a massive scale, to the point of becoming a serious threat."
"The Muggle Church once mobilized a large number of knights to hunt vampires across the world, resulting in countless deaths. At the sa ti, wizards were also fighting against the harm caused by vampires.
However, so vampires possessed powerful magic… In the end, many wizards had no choice but to hide with their families… blending in among the Muggles."
"But with the invention of the Sunlight Charm, wizards finally gained the power to resist vampires, shifting their completely disadvantaged position."
Wade listened silently to this history—sothing never ntioned in textbooks—before voicing his own question: "I rember that vampires rely dislike sunlight, but they aren't completely unable to move in it."
"That's true. However, the light emitted by the Sunlight Charm is far more intense and violent than normal sunlight.
It is said that, to vampires, facing it feels like being thrown into a boiling pot of oil. Yet, for most other creatures, it causes no harm at all," Dumbledore explained.
Wade summarized: "So now, vampires have beco a protected minority group."
"Exactly. After a long period of bloodshed and sacrifice, in the 17th century, the International Confederation of Wizards reached an agreent with the vampires, bringing an end to the history of war and mutual slaughter."
"Vampires claid that the Sunlight Charm was an act of brutal persecution against their kind and strongly demanded that the Confederation prohibit wizards from learning or using it."
"On the wizarding side, strict restrictions were placed on the expansion of the vampire population, along with the establishnt of various laws."
"For example, vampires were forbidden from attacking humans and intelligent half-human creatures.
They were also prohibited from feeding on livestock owned by humans and were only allowed to drink the blood of animals they raised themselves or legally purchased.
Additionally, every vampire had to be registered with the Ministry of Magic."
Wade: "..."
Without a doubt, by the end of the war, vampires must have been hunted to near extinction by Muggle armies and wizards alike, forcing them to sign a series of "unequal treaties" in exchange for protection and acceptance from the wizarding community.
As for restricting the study of the Sunlight Charm, it wasn't a concession by the wizarding authorities—it was rely a "human rights declaration" from the victors.
In reality, the spread and learning of the spell had never truly stopped.
Newspapers often published articles suggesting that the Ministry of Magic should eradicate vampires completely.
So wizards openly prided themselves on being "vampire hunters"—even if they had never actually encountered a real vampire in their lives.
Take Lockhart, for example. In one of his books, he claid that he once traveled on a ship with a vampire, "engaged in friendly conversation," and ultimately "reford" the vampire to only eat lettuce.
Lockhart's books were bestsellers, yet the vampires tolerated it—they never went after that flamboyant peacock.
"What does the Sunlight Charm look like?" Wade asked.
"Rember the incantation: Solaris Arkaion. When using the spell, you must focus on the intent to protect—never on the intent to kill. Then, you must wave your wand like this—"
As Dumbledore spoke, he lightly moved his fingers.
Although he remained invisible, a faintly glowing arc appeared in the air, demonstrating the proper wand movent for the spell.
Wade silently morized it, repeating the incantation twice in a low voice, though he did not actually cast the spell.
"It's best not to use it in crowded places—" Dumbledore chuckled softly. "You know, it's illegal."
Wade also smiled.
He had to admit—doing sothing "forbidden" together created a much stronger sense of camaraderie than doing sothing "righteous."
By now, they had reached the inn. From Wade's vantage point, he could only see a lit window but not the people inside.
At the sa ti, he spotted a peregrine falcon perched beside an owl—a sight that, from this angle, made it look like an unusually large pigeon.
For a brief mont, Wade thought he heard the Headmaster chuckle.
Wade's expression darkened as he silently cringed at his past self.
Dumbledore changed the subject: "The boy inside—is that the missing friend of yours? If I rember correctly, his na is Caryll Johnson."
Wade corrected him: "His na is Caryll Johnson, but he's not my friend—he wasn't before, and he isn't now."
Dumbledore glanced at him and asked, "What happened?"
