Wade suddenly turned his head and looked at Michael.
Michael gave him a strange look. "—Have you really never thought of questioning him about this?"
Wade: ...
In fact, he hadn't.
The knowledge of the story had, in a way, clouded his thinking. Wade knew from the start that Voldemort was attached to the back of Quirrell's head and was aware that no one would die this year.
With a sense of superiority from being both a "Reincarnator" and a "Prophet," he even approached the discovery of Voldemort's secret with a ga-like attitude. To him, uncovering the Dark Lord's secret was just a slip-up, and he hadn't blad anyone for it.
Under Michael's gaze, Wade carefully reviewed the entire situation from the beginning, including his thoughts and what Dumbledore might have considered, as well as the fates of those involved according to the story.
He realized that he still wouldn't question or resent Dumbledore.
"Why?" Michael asked in confusion. "He's the headmaster. He's supposed to protect us."
"And if I question him, what would I gain?" Wade asked seriously. "To see Dumbledore repent? To have him apologize to ? What good would that do? Would resenting Dumbledore make us any safer in the future?"
Michael fell silent.
"Brooding over what's already happened is pointless, Michael," Wade concluded. "Yelling at the only person who can protect us, questioning him, resisting him—it's foolish. Being favored is what allows people to act fearlessly. We're not favored, so we can't afford to indulge in venting our emotions."
Michael was quiet for a long ti before he softly asked, "Don't you feel wronged?"
"No," Wade replied. "If I've learned anything from this, it's that—"
"First, never put all your hope in soone else."
"Second, only those with power can do as they please."
"And third... if you can't beat soone, you have to endure."
"That's just how the world is—always has been."
...
Though Wade spoke rationally to Michael, in reality, he wasn't completely unaffected by the situation.
Several nights passed where, upon waking in the middle of the night, Wade's dreams seed to flash with the green light that symbolized death. Sotis, the grueso and cruel voice of the noseless, bald creature echoed in his mind.
In the second half of those nights, unable to sleep, Wade would stare at the stars on the ceiling or simply get up to read.
He began dedicating more ti to studying and alchemy.
In the last week before Christmas, Wade finally completed his first magical device.
On pale yellow parchnt, golden lines ford intricate and precise geotric patterns. The inner and outer circles rotated slowly at different speeds, with ancient runes flickering in golden light.
Wade could clearly see the flow of magic within the parchnt, how the spell was functioning. He could even faintly sense which parts needed adjustnt and where certain materials required replacent.
After a while, his eyes started to feel strained, so he closed them for a brief rest. When he looked again, it was just an ordinary piece of parchnt.
After completing his first independent magical device, Wade's vision underwent another transformation—he gained a new ability.
In addition to seeing people's true nas and the way spells were cast, Wade realized he could now see magical diagrams, the flow of magic within alchemical items, the spells used, and the runes inscribed upon them.
However, this required intense concentration. The mont his attention wavered, the special vision disappeared.
In a way, this was a good thing, but Wade wished his 'Cheat' could give him an instruction manual.
At first, he thought he was destined to be an Auror—no Polyjuice Potion or transfiguration would escape his eyes.
Later, he considered that perhaps he was ant to be a teacher, offering personalized one-on-one guidance to each student. If not achieving a 100% success rate, it would at least be close to 90%.
But now, Wade believed he was a natural-born alchemist.
Still, he mused, if I had never encountered alchemy, would I have ever discovered the truly amazing things my eyes can see?
During Thursday's tutoring session, he handed his ticulously adjusted creation to Professor Murray.
"Oh, let see... a piece of parchnt?"
Professor Murray put on his glasses and stopped Wade from trying to explain. With his slender fingers, he slowly stroked the seemingly ordinary piece of parchnt.
"Hmm... ordinary parchnt, with a touch of rcury, fish oil from a stone-scaled fish, and mouse-ear grass—none of which are particularly rare materials."
Professor Murray murmured softly as he casted spells and lightly moved his fingers to inspect the magic runes embedded within:
"Transfiguration spell, binding spell, elimination spell... and a concealnt spell... very clever—extrely clever thinking—"
He looked at Wade with surprised, gleaming eyes and said, "I suppose you must have another piece of parchnt like this, don't you?"
"Yes, Professor," Wade smiled, pulling a bound notebook from his bag. "In fact, I have a whole stack!"
Professor Murray smiled. He sat down, thoughtfully considering for a mont, then wrote sothing on the parchnt in his hand.
[Extraordinary wisdom is humanity's greatest treasure.]
The strong, bold handwriting appeared simultaneously on both pieces of parchnt, identical in content and position.
"As I suspected," Professor Murray continued his inspection. "The magic rune structure is incredibly stable. Even I can't find anything to improve—it's almost unrestricted by distance and can transmit information instantly—"
As he spoke, he began pacing the room, walking back and forth several tis, muttering incomprehensible things to himself, his eyebrows practically lifting off his face in excitent.
After a while, Professor Murray suddenly turned around, striding over to Wade, grasping his shoulders with excitent.
"Child! Do you realize? You're going to change the world! This is a world-altering invention! rlin's beard! It's more significant than any of my inventions so far!"
"I can't believe you're only eleven years old!"
"This is just a piece of parchnt, but it's so much more than just a piece of parchnt! It will change the way all wizards communicate!"
"How could no one have thought of this before? It's so simple, yet so brilliant!"
Seeing the gleam in Professor Murray's eyes and his slightly manic deanor, Wade's heart started pounding. He struggled not to step back, his fingers curled slightly and he nearly reached out for his wand.
In a flash, countless historical precedents ca to mind—like the famous poet, who was killed over jealousy, or Galileo Galilei, who was suppressed and persecuted by other scholars.
Wade's sense of caution heightened in that instant, as if he had returned to that day when he overheard Voldemort's voice through the wall.
Silently, Wade clutched a small bean-like object—his personal safety guarantee.
He did his best to remain humble and composed, and smiled as he said:
"I can't take credit for this invention—I rely borrowed from the Muggle concept of internet communication. Without your patient guidance, Professor, I wouldn't have been able to make it work."
