The convoy slowed as it turned into a quieter street in central London, the urgent wail of sirens fading into the steady hum of engines. One by one, the vehicles ca to a smooth halt in front of a modest two-story house, its exterior neat and unassuming despite the significance it held. This was the ho of the Caesars.
The people in the neighboring houses, however, barely spared it a glance, having long grown used to the sight. To them, it was nothing worth pausing over anymore. The Caesars' residence had been here for years, long before Michael beca a politician, let alone the Pri Minister, and motorcades like this had co and gone more tis than they could count.
What did draw a few lingering looks, though, was the young man who stepped out of the sa car as their Pri Minister, bearing a striking resemblance to him, though only a few recognized who he was.
Ever since the system awakened and changed his life completely, Maverick had seldom co ho. And when he did also, it was usually under invisibility or muggle-repellent spells, drawing as little attention as possible. So it had been a long ti since they had last seen him, and his appearance had changed quite a bit as well since then.
The father and son stepped out, each adjusting his coat slightly, their gazes sweeping over the familiar street before moving toward the front door. Behind them, the security detail began to disperse, most of the vehicles pulling away while a few remained at a distance as Michael's personal security.
"By the way... I didn't tell your mother you would be coming," Michael said as they approached the door, reaching into his coat for the keys.
"That's fine," Maverick replied, a faint smile forming. "I miss seeing her surprised."
Michael let out a soft chuckle at that.
And just as he reached for the lock, the door swung open from the inside, and the youngest mber of their family greeted them enthusiastically.
"Ricky!"
Well, she called out only to Maverick before rushing forward and throwing herself at him, her arms wrapping tightly around his waist.
From that pitiful, almost malnourished and frightened girl Sarah had been when he rescued her, she looked completely different now, having grown into a lively and spirited young girl. She had even grown a head taller than before, nearly reaching his shoulders, and was blossoming into a beautiful young teenager who, no doubt, would turn heads once she grew older.
Better give her a few more enchanted items, just in case so idiots set their sights on her. She already had several, and his parents were no different, always carrying items that would react the mont danger appeared. After all, anyone going after him might choose an easier route, and that ant his family. So no, he was not exaggerating.
Brushing the thought aside for now, he let out a quiet laugh, placing a hand on her head and ruffling her hair. "Can't the two of you just use my na? You and Bella have completely vandalized it..."
"Hey, hey... how co he gets the warm welco and I get nothing?"
Sarah pulled back from Maverick, grinning, then turned and gave her father a quick hug as well. "You're here every day, Dad, but Ricky only shows up a few tis a year..."
The three of them stepped inside, the door closing behind them with a soft click. The outside world, with all its noise and weight, seed to fall away the mont Maverick crossed the threshold, and he let out a quiet breath without even realizing it.
Ho.
"Where is Mom?" Slipping off his coat, he hung it on the stand by the door.
"In her room. I saw the cars from my window and ca down as soon as I saw you get out." Sarah replied.
Here at ho, Maverick tries not to use his magical senses as much as possible, even suppressing them instinctively. The last thing he wants was to catch sothing he shouldn't out of the corner of his vision, rlin forbid, from his parents' room.
He gave a small nod to Sarah when the sound of hurried footsteps echoed from the stairs, and all three turned to see the woman in question already halfway down. Ariel's pace quickened the mont her eyes landed on Maverick, and she did not even spare Michael a glance as she crossed the distance and pulled her son into a tight embrace first.
"Son... you didn't tell you were coming."
Michael, now thoroughly ignored, let out a resigned sigh, waving a hand as he turned and made his way upstairs.
"It was ant to be a surprise," Maverick said with a soft chuckle, returning the hug.
"Well, consider surprised," Ariel replied, pulling back slightly to look at him. "Will you stay for dinner?"
"Of course," he said without hesitation. "The thing I miss most at Hogwarts is your cooking, Mom."
Ariel gave him a knowing look, then let out a soft huff and smiled. "You always say that, but I don't believe you anymore. I am sure Isabella has taken that spot."
"How can that be... Bella's cooking is nowhere near as good as yours..."
Maverick and Sarah followed their mother into the kitchen, taking their seats side by side at the dining table as the familiar warmth of the house settled around them.
"I'm telling aunt Bella you said that by the way..."
Maverick smiled and poked his sister's forehead lightly. "Since when did you start plotting against your brother?"
She chuckled softly, a bright smile spreading across her face.
Ti slipped by quietly in the comfort of ho, almost without notice. The kitchen filled with the soft sounds of cooking, the clink of utensils, and easy conversation. Maverick did not head to his room just yet, deciding to go only after dinner, watching his mother move about, the three of them talking about little things, simple, ordinary monts that, in that mont, felt rare.
Before long, Michael joined them as well after a quick shower, and within the hour, the table was set with a simple yet perfect ho-cooked al.
"...So, apparently, Maverick has sothing big to tell you, honey," Michael said, glancing between his wife and son.
Cough—cough.
Maverick nearly choked on his drink when his father brought it up out of nowhere, coughing lightly as he set the glass down. Really... no sense of buildup at all.
anwhile, Ariel gave her son a sharp glance. "Oh... so this is a formal visit, then, son? I thought you just missed us and decided to pay a visit..."
Maverick quickly wiped his lips with a napkin and shot his father a deadpan look before turning to his mother to protest. "What the heck is a formal visit... I really just missed your cooking, Mom."
Unfortunately, his mother didn't look like she was buying it.
"Sure you did..." she said, drawing out the words.
But thank rlin for his sister. "Ooh... is it going to be so super secret of the magical world?" she chid in at just the right mont, her eyes lighting up with excitent.
At that, Ariel also raised a brow. Indeed, if it was sothing important enough for her son to bring up like this, then it likely had sothing to do with the magical world.
And that thought made her pause for a mont, wondering if her daughter should even be here to listen. What if it was sothing truly serious? But just as quickly, she brushed the thought aside. Her son must have his own ideas. More importantly, her gossipy sense had already begun to tingle.
And true to her thoughts, Maverick really did not mind Sarah being there, because most of what he was about to reveal would beco public knowledge soon enough.
Sigh. He let out a quiet breath. "Okay... I admit, I ca to tell you all sothing. But I really did miss your cooking, Mom."
"Mm, never mind all that..." Ariel waved a hand hurriedly, "out with it, son. What is going on?"
Sigh... where do I even start?
---
And just like that, two hours passed before anyone noticed. The plates were long gone, replaced by empty cups and a glass jar of coffee that had also been drained dry. The family of four still sat around the table, the contrast almost amusing, one looking like he had not slept in days, while the other three seed far too energized.
A curious mother could wear down even an archmage's tongue, Maverick learned that lesson that night. No wonder her family ran one of the world's most successful newspaper companies, and even though his mother had not followed that path herself, those journalistic genes had clearly not skipped her.
In any case, Maverick achieved what he had co here to do, and that was to fill them in on everything so that when his plans were carried out, they would not be left paralyzed by shock. After all, he was about to change the world, quite literally overnight.
To begin with, he told them about his current standing in the wizarding world, both politically and in terms of raw strength. It might not matter to non-magicals, but in the wizarding world, it really ca down to who had the biggest fists at the end of the day.
And Ariel didn't doubt her son's words, no matter how outrageous they sounded. Even if she did not fully grasp just how significant a figure Maverick had beco, she still felt prouder than ever.
Next, he spoke of the things that had never been made public, but where he had played a direct role. Chief among them was the war with the aliens, a disaster that would have affected the entire planet had he not intervened, gathering an army of powerful individuals to fight against them.
Needless to say, Ariel and Sarah were left with their jaws dropped. Forget the whole war, the news of aliens alone was enough to leave them speechless. Maverick did not quite understand their reaction. After all, his family was far from normal, a wizard for a son and a mutant for a daughter. What was so surprising about aliens?
Michael, anwhile, was not as shocked as his wife and daughter. He had already known about it, having been with the Queen at the ti, monitoring the situation live.
Anyway, with the help of his ultra high-definition imrsive magic projecting everything in vivid detail, he let them truly grasp the scale of it. In fact, much of their ti turned into watching the invasion unfold like a movie, with Maverick practically reduced to a human VLC player.
There was more that ca later as well, but he left out a few things too, the bloodier bits, the things he had done that would make him sound like a complete villain. Aside from that, he really did not hold back.
The plan to collapse the Statute of Secrecy ca second to last, which, to his puzzlent, did not draw as strong a reaction as he had expected. His mother was still shocked, of course, but not nearly as much as she had been at the ntion of aliens. Regardless, he laid everything out, the plan, the steps, and the expected outcos, from the imdiate aftermath to the long-term future.
And at the very last, he revealed to them about the Mars project. It was the first ti Michael was hearing about it as well, plus, it was pleasing to see the expected reaction this ti. He didn't even realise, sowhere along the way, he had started caring more about their reactions than simply explaining everything.
Mother, father, and sister, all three of them sat there in stunned silence for a good minute after he finished, trying to digest everything.
Of course, he had still held a few things back, details like the Stark couple. Even so, the expressions on their faces said enough. They looked caught between disbelief and understanding, even pride, and overall just bewildered, staring at him like he was so kind of alien.
For a long mont, no one spoke. Even Sarah sat there with her mouth slightly open, completely at a loss for words.
"I... son, that is a lot to take in for one person," Ariel finally said, letting out a long breath.
"Take your ti..." Maverick leaned back slightly and grinned. "At least you didn't label insane or sothing."
"Oh, I am this close," she said, shaking her head. "My God... the last ti I was this shocked was when you revealed magic... and now there are aliens too... and my son is building a whole planet..."
"It is called terraforming..."
"Well that is certainly a word I was not expecting to hear," Michael also added after a breath, then took out a twenty-pound note from his pocket and pushed it toward Maverick. "Okey, you win..."
Maverick chuckled and flicked his finger inward, the note lifting into the air before landing neatly in his palm.
"What is that about?" Ariel asked, giving her husband a sideways glance.
"Well, we had a bet on the way here in the car... that our son could not shock with anything bigger than the crazy plan he just told us about, the one happening next month..."
"Hmm..." Ariel humd thoughtfully, a hand on her chin. "You're right. This does sound more... shocking, than just telling the whole world there are witches and wizards living among them."
Maverick could not tell whether his parents were being sarcastic or not.
"Uh... so," Sarah cut in just then, her eyes changing from the initial shock to sothing else, a growing realization as she looked at Maverick.
Her next words left him speechless.
"So... does that an you're going to be so kind of king or emperor of an entire planet... will I also beco a princess?"
