Lily Potter watched her daughters and husband zip around happily and felt her heart swell with pride and joy. Not only for the two girls, but the man as well. He was able to share his gifts with their children, and see the joy on their faces as they embraced it.
Her smile only dipped when she thought about the newest addition to their family, Harry. She knew it wasn't going to be an overnight change, not for any of them, but Jas and her ntalities had changed faster than she originally anticipated.
Clearing out their seldomly used office for an extra bedroom had been an obvious choice. Their dining room table had already been large enough for guests, so adding on another chair was a simple task. Extra furniture was also easy to co buy during the early months of the school year.
It was only after everything was finished that she realized how natural it felt. It didn't feel as though they were adopting a new child or 'making space', it felt like he was coming ho, as if the space had always been his, but he had been absent.
That absence hadn't really struck ho until the holiday break, when two girls had stepped off the train looking far from excited as the other children did. Their first al as a family had been quiet, almost sullen. The two adults had lied to themselves in thinking it had been sothing school related, that maybe they were missing friends or had a few bad classes before being excused.
But it wasn't true, and the emptiness only grew. They were missing sothing, soone. Maybe they always had been, maybe there was always a hole in their family that had been covered up with excuses and denials.
When Harry had first arrived, when they had t him, everything had changed and now she wasn't sure she could ever go back. A loud cheer brought her back to the present, and she smiled once more, watching as Amaryllis applauded her sister for catching sothing that must have required a bit of finesse.
Then she frowned, because Harry wasn't with them. She knew he had gone up, had he landed without her noticing? Did he feel left out still? Were they bringing up mories of his past life, one that she wanted to know everything about and was absolutely terrified at the thought of?
It was at that mont she spotted him, and the woman breathed a sigh of relief, before noticing sothing that froze the blood in her veins. He was flying fast, too fast, and even more frightening was the fact he was heading down as in towards the very solid ground. Her hand went instinctively for her Wand but ca up empty. She hadn't brought it with her, why hadn't she brought it with her!? There wasn't enough ti to grab it, he would hit before then. She could only stand watching in panic as he continued closer and closer towards impact.
Far off she heard another shout, her husband had seen as well but he wasn't close enough, none of them were. Her limbs were frozen, she forgot how to breathe, dreading what would happen but being unable to look away.
He pulled up at the last second, maybe even past the last second, and she swore his robes dragged across the grass for a mont before he continued the turn, shifting into a spin in what she could only call 'controlled chaos'. Monts, though it felt like a lifeti, later he slowed before coming to a halt and dismounting as if he hadn't just pulled a death-defying maneuver.
When she had started racing across the lawn, Lily Potter wasn't sure, but suddenly there was a young boy wrapped up in her arms, ssy hair underneath her as she pulled him close, nearly crushing him.
He tensed, she knew he did, but it seed trivial compared to what had just happened, what had almost happened. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
There was no response, and she pulled back, but keeping his arms firmly held as she took in his appearance, looking for traces of pain or bruises, of blood or broken bones. Physically, he was fine, although there was a look of confusion on his face.
"Thank God you are okay, I was so worried."
He continued staring, even as another body landed seconds later behind her, Jas rushing up as well. "Is he okay? Is he hurt? I'll go grab so potions and…"
"I'm fine." The boy's response hadn't been angry or annoyed, just rushed out as if he had finally found the ability to speak. "I am, promise. I didn't an to worry you."
Before either could respond the two girls landed nearby. "That… was… AWESO! Did you see that, Harriet? The way he dove, the way he turned! I didn't even know you could do that on a broom! You have to teach how to…" Amy's excitent was quickly ended with the two glares given to her by her parents. "Uh… I an…"
"Maybe so slower pointers." Harry suggested ekly, "I don't want you getting hurt or anything."
"Harry, why did…"
Jas trailed off, before shaking his head at not knowing what to say exactly. But the younger male seed to catch the aning, "I didn't think it was a big deal, I've been flying that way since my first year and no one's ever said anything. I accidentally swallowed my first snitch after all."
Amaryllis laughed, as did Harriet, albeit a bit more hesitantly. Lily forced a smile and when she glanced at her husband out of the corner of her eye, she saw he had done the sa.
