In the afternoon, a tired gray-brown owl delivered a letter.
After being fed a few pieces of dried mouse, the owl flew away hurriedly.
"A letter from Hogwarts." He looked at the familiar yellow envelope and green ink.
Opening the envelope, he found two sheets of paper inside.
The first page was similar to the acceptance letter, except no reply by owl was needed.
The content told him to take the Hogwarts Express from King's Cross Station to school on September 1st.
The second sheet was a booklist with the nas of eight books written on it.
Except for The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 2, written by Miranda Goshawk, the rest were works of one person: Gilderoy Lockhart.
Ethan naturally knew who this was. As a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, he was incompetent, but as a master of mory Charms, he certainly deserved recognition.
"Let see." Cyril picked up the booklist curiously.
"Break with a Banshee, Gadding with Ghouls, Holidays with Hags, Travels with Trolls, Voyages with Vampires, Wanderings with Werewolves, Year with the Yeti."
Cyril mocked, "Tsk tsk tsk, really a talent."
"You know this person?" Ethan could tell from his tone that he knew Lockhart.
Cyril wore a cold smile. "Of course I know. Ethan, I don't know if he'll be teaching your Defense Against the Dark Arts class, but if it really is him, be careful. That guy isn't a good sort. So of the stories in these books are exactly the sa as experiences so old friends of mine had, except the protagonist was changed from them to this Lockhart. And as far as I know, my old friends have forgotten those experiences."
Finally, Cyril angrily slapped the booklist on the table. "If not for the lack of evidence and the fact that this guy is famous now, I would have sent him to prison long ago."
"You have one week left in France. Next, I plan to take you to see other factories the family holds shares in and et other shareholders." He recounted the upcoming arrangents.
In the following week, Ethan was extrely busy.
During the day, Cyril took him from one factory to another, eting person after person.
And at night, he was taken to different dinners with different families.
This series of actions by Cyril was telling the French wizarding world that the heir to the Shafiq family was him, Ethan Shafiq Jones. Others with distant ties to the Shafiq family shouldn't think about living off the inheritance after his death.
In just one week, the matter of the Shafiq family heir caused a sensation throughout the entire French wizarding world.
And our protagonist quietly returned to England amid all that noise.
Just like when they went to France, the two registered their wands at the airport.
Ethan and Cyril each dragged a suitcase containing normal Muggle world items. Wizard-related items were in their Undetectable Extension luggage.
Upon exiting the station, Ethan saw Sofia waiting for them at the airport with the driver, holding a sign.
Sofia and Ethan sat in the back, Cyril sat in the passenger seat, chatting about the things that had happened over the past twenty-plus days that could be talked about.
When they got ho, Cyril declined Sofia's invitation to stay for dinner. "Having been away for over twenty days, I have to go back and deal with the affairs that have accumulated during this ti."
He took the dragon scales, eggshells, and other items Ethan had left with him out of his bag and left.
"Where's the elephant I mailed ho?" Ethan looked around the living room and Albert's collection shelf but didn't see the wooden elephant carving he had sent back via owl.
"It's in our bedroom. Your dad loves this wood carving too much."
Ethan then rembered that, unlike the Shafiq ancestral ho, at his own ho there was a nanny who, unlike his parents, didn't know about the existence of wizards.
He quickly took out a few books from his bag and placed them on the table, stuffing the otherworldly dragon scales and eggshells back into the bag to prevent anything unusual from being discovered.
Holding these books, he first returned to his room to put them down, then together with Sofia, arranged the dragon scales and eggshells on the shelf that had been prepared long ago in their bedroom.
Sofia didn't like the earthy brown eggshells with green spots very much, but those silvery-blue dragon scales were truly beautiful. Looking at the dragon scales reflecting light in the sun, she exclaid, "Truly beautiful!"
Ethan kept one scale for himself, planning to give it to Hagrid after school started.
Ethan, having just returned ho, still had many things to deal with, such as the phone call Hermione made earlier, the invitation letter Ron sent via owl, and the letter from the girl Camille he had t in France.
The first thing to deal with was Hermione's call. According to his mother Sofia, Hermione had called once when they first returned ho, asking if he was back.
After receiving her Hogwarts letter last week, she called again to ask when he would be ho and if they could go to Diagon Alley together to buy books, clothes, and other supplies.
"Hello, Ethan? Calling for Hermione? I'll get her." It was Hermione's mother answering the phone.
After a while, Hermione's voice ca from the other side. "Hello, Ethan? You're back from France?"
"Mm, just got ho. I heard from my mom that you wanted to go to Diagon Alley. Shall we go together tomorrow?"
"Sorry, I already went to Diagon Alley on Wednesday. I made plans with Ron and Harry." Hermione's tone was apologetic.
"It's okay, I'll just go by myself tomorrow," Ethan said indifferently.
"But I have so things I want to tell you, a series of things that happened that day."
Over the phone, Hermione recounted a series of events that had happened that day.
"A series of strange things happened to Harry because of a house-elf. He couldn't receive our ssages, so Fred, George, and Ron went to his aunt's house and brought him to the Burrow."
"That's the na of Ron's ho," Hermione added.
"Later that day, Harry accidentally went to Knockturn Alley because he used Floo Powder incorrectly. He told us he saw your roommate Draco Malfoy and his father Lucius Malfoy selling dark magic items at a shop called Borgin and Burkes. The goods in that shop were extrely strange; Harry said there were withered human hands, skulls, and so on. I don't know why the Ministry of Magic hasn't cleaned up this obvious dark magic shop." Hermione was indignant.
Ethan felt sowhat helpless. "The situation in Knockturn Alley is completely different from Diagon Alley. And I told you before, in the wizarding world, dark magic isn't completely ostracized."
"Let's not discuss this issue. I'll continue talking about what happened that day." Hermione stopped the topic. She felt that if they continued, they would end up arguing on the phone.
"Sure, go on." Ethan didn't want to argue with her either.
"Luckily Hagrid got Harry out of Knockturn Alley. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley were frantically looking for him. Later we t our new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Guess who?"
"Gilderoy Lockhart, is it him?"
"It really is him. We were lucky to run into his book signing. He's so handso, it's no wonder he won Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award five tis." ntioning Lockhart, Hermione's tone held unconcealed admiration and affection.
"Is that so? When I get to Diagon Alley, I must see what this wizard looks like."
"In the end, it was Lucius who provoked Mr. Weasley. The two scuffled in Flourish and Blotts; Hagrid eventually separated them. The Malfoy family really aren't any good. Seeing Malfoy's father, I finally understood why he is the way he is; the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Hermione concealed so of the disdain Lucius had shown for her Muggle parents.
"As a Pure-blood family that followed Voldemort, the Malfoy family believes in Pure-blood supremacy. They have always regarded the Weasley family, who are friendly with Muggles, as blood traitors. I'm not surprised they fought."
"Ah, is there such a saying? And, having followed that person, they weren't caught and put in Azkaban?" Hermione was shocked; she didn't know the inside story at all.
"You can ask Dumbledore about this if you get the chance. It's not convenient for to say much here." After Hermione finished speaking, Ethan talked about his trip to France, sharing a few things he could ntion.
"Really envious. Getting to be up close with so many legal dragons. Last sester, Hagrid's Norbert gave us a terrible ti. Compared to you, my trip to North Wales is nothing." After chatting a while longer, Ethan hung up the phone and started writing reply letters.
Ron's letter was easy to answer; it was an invitation to visit sent over two weeks ago. Ethan simply explained that he went to France during this ti and included so special souvenirs and candies he brought back as gifts for Ron and Harry.
After sending Edward out to deliver the letter, he opened the three letters from Camille. The first letter was fairly standard. Camille simply introduced herself and included her mailing address. The second letter was a bit "bold." Though she only asked simple questions about Hogwarts, at the end she had stamped a bright red lip print. That was more than Ethan could handle. The third letter demanded to know why he hadn't replied. *Seriously, if only I hadn't given her my address back then.* Ethan regretted it a bit, but there was no helping it. He just had to bite the bullet and write a short reply, explaining he had just gotten back from France.
