Snape propped his chin on the back of his hand, studying Ethan's expression.
"Regrettably, that is the truth. The core of this potion is the Sorcerer's Stone. The other ingredients are only used to amplify its effects."
"Actually, if you simply soak the Sorcerer's Stone in morning dew or ordinary water, it will also produce the Elixir of Life, though the effect will be weaker."
Ethan helplessly accepted this reality.
"You want to learn the secrets of brewing the Elixir of Life from this potion? Since its creation, it has been every Potions Master's dream, but to date, no one has successfully concocted a potion of equivalent efficacy."
Snape spoke with so reluctance. Presumably, he was also one of the Potions Masters who had attempted to brew the Elixir of Life without using the Sorcerer's Stone.
"All right." He had wanted to know the potion's secrets because he had other ideas, but with that hope dashed, he prepared to leave.
"Wait, you ca at the right ti. There is sothing else I need to discuss with you." Snape's voice ca from behind him.
"What else is there, Professor?"
"That batch of mutated salamanders you bred last year has been depleted; only a few remain. Only a few gray lizards are left. I need you to prepare another batch for ."
Snape stood up and walked toward the corner where the salamanders were raised.
Only then did Ethan rember that he was supposed to take Little Black back this ti.
Standing before the lizard nest, looking at the few remaining black lizards and the considerable number of gray lizards, Snape said.
"Last school year was spent teaching courses. There was not enough ti for research, so I did not thoroughly figure out the effects of this mutated salamander blood. After a sumr of research, I finally have so results."
"What results? Does the mutated salamander blood have stronger healing effects?" Ethan anticipated Snape's answer.
"Yes, if consud directly, in terms of healing effects, the mutated salamander blood has certain improvents compared to normal ones, but the improvent is not particularly huge, roughly twenty percent."
He turned around. "I don't know if it's because of the fla you fed them, but this potion ingredient has gained a new function: replenishing life force. It already has effects similar to a diluted version of unicorn blood."
"Combined with their original healing properties, it provides an enormous boost to certain healing potions."
"That's wonderful!" Ethan felt there was hope for Cyril's recovery.
The issue with Cyril's limited lifespan wasn't that his natural life was too short. His natural lifespan was still very long, but due to injuries that couldn't be healed, he only had a few years left.
The Shafiq family's special rebirth ability would eliminate all of a person's hidden injuries during the rebirth process, restoring them to the best physical condition for their current age. This was recorded in the family notes as the unanimous experience of all ancestors who had been reborn.
But Cyril had already been reborn once. Without experiencing a third magical outburst, he had no opportunity to restore his physical condition again.
And the Elixir of Life was no help in such a situation. Cyril had personally told him that.
Of the potion obtained from Nicolas, Ethan kept half and gave the other half to Snape, hoping to learn its secrets.
He wanted to draw inspiration from this life-extending potion to see if he could combine it with other treatnts to help Cyril live longer.
After all, before Ethan ca along, as the controller of two families' millennia-spanning wealth, Cyril had tried all sorts of thods and taken all sorts of potions, but had been unable to completely heal his hidden injuries.
Ethan had originally thought there was no hope, but now he saw a ray of hope in the little pets he had accidentally mutated.
"Is it soone who needs saving? But don't be too happy yet. This is just my comparative analysis of this material, conclusions drawn from animal experints after adding it to existing potions.
"It hasn't been confird yet whether it has other side effects or whether it would cause harm to humans." Snape threw cold water on his enthusiasm.
"Yes, an important person is injured. We've tried all sorts of thods, but he hasn't recovered." Ethan pursed his lips.
"If the situation is urgent, you can send him to St. Mungo's. I've already sent so potions there for them to trial on patients with incurable diseases."
Snape was still quite understanding, though it was unclear whether he was simply short on test subjects.
"No, no, no, it's not that urgent yet. We can wait for the test results to co out." Ethan shook his head frantically.
"I believe St. Mungo's will definitely bring good news."
A flash of disappointnt crossed Snape's face, giving Ethan a trace of relief.
He pointed at the nest of lizards. "Hurry up and feed all these gray lizards. That one that turned black earlier seems to have stronger effects than the others. I need to examine it closely to see if it's an isolated case."
"Sure thing, Professor!" Ethan was in a good mood now, reaching into the flas and feeding fireballs to the gray lizards one by one.
"Professor, since the effects are so good, should we consider breeding more salamanders?"
After feeding all the lizards and watching them wriggle into their molting phase, Ethan and Snape returned to the sofa.
"No, it's still more convenient to buy so adult salamanders from the breeding farm for mutation."
Snape shook his head, rejecting this proposal.
"Although the effects of these gray lizards mutating again are indeed better, their reproductive rate is too slow to keep up with our consumption.
"After the research is complete, we can consider slowly raising a batch to let them reproduce on their own.
"But right now, we need ti."
"Or you could leave all of Little Black's offspring here to reproduce first. Then later we can use them as breeding stock."
What Snape said made sense. Ethan nodded. The reproductive characteristics of salamanders flashed through his mind.
Salamanders were truly magical creatures. To ensure their species' survival, they could not only change sex but also reproduce asexually.
In nature, salamanders mostly lived in various lava lakes and other places where there were many of their kind to mate and produce offspring.
But if they encountered special circumstances like volcanic eruptions that left only a single salamander trapped sowhere, their magical nature would begin to show.
Away from fla, they had only six hours to live. To ensure the species' survival, female salamanders would reproduce parthenogenetically, while male salamanders would, after a certain period of transformation, beco female and reproduce parthenogenetically.
Little Black had faced this situation before. A solitary Little Black, regardless of its previous sex, would invariably beco female when producing offspring.
And if two of the sa sex were confined together, they would fight to determine which one would undergo gender transformation, thereby becoming a breeding pair.
Ethan recalled the share contracts he had seen. "It seems the family holds shares in a magical creature breeding farm. I will ask if they can specially breed a batch of salamanders for us."
He was referring to the Shafiq family shares in Britain. France was too far away, and transporting a batch of salamanders would likely kill them.
"That would be for the best," Snape said slowly.
"Yes, I will write a letter in a mont," Ethan said, nodding heavily.
As he thought about writing the letter, his gaze grew unfocused.
When he looked at the two bottles of dragon blood on the table, he suddenly rembered a question.
He pointed at the two potion bottles containing virtually indistinguishable red liquids. "By the way, Professor, I also wanted to ask, do these two types of dragon blood really have no differences when it cos to potion brewing?"
Whether in potion formulas or in Nicolas's alchemy notes, Ethan had only ever seen the general term: dragon blood.
Even in the analysis of Scarpin's Revelaspell, these two liquids were only identified as dragon blood, but Ethan felt there should be so differences between them.
Although both are called dragons, the differences between the two species are enormous.
Whether in appearance or abilities, Swedish Short-Snouts and Welsh Greens are completely different, so logically their blood should also differ sowhat.
Snape picked up the two bottles of dragon blood and placed them side by side before him.
"You make a good point. Although dragon blood is widely used in alchemy, potions, and other fields, usually without subdivision, there are indeed certain differences between them.
"Take these two bottles, for example. Swedish Short-Snout blood produces sowhat better effects than Welsh Green blood when brewing Fire-Resistance Potion.
"I believe this is because the Swedish Short-Snout's fla is stronger than the Welsh Green's.
"However, this difference is not significant; it's only slightly stronger."
He freed one hand, using two fingers to indicate a minuscule gap.
Ethan understood. "So unless you're pursuing extre effects and specifically designate a certain type of dragon blood, we usually just use the general term 'dragon blood,' since the blood of these ten dragon species doesn't differ much in effect."
Snape nodded, putting away the two bottles of dragon blood. "If there's nothing else, you can go now."
"Alright, I'll go back and write the letter." Ethan stood up and walked toward the door.
His hand was already on the door when Ethan rembered his important reason for coming back the second ti: Little Black.
He turned around. "Professor, I ca to take Little Black back."
"I wasn't stopping you." Snape had just returned to his desk and opened the drawer.
"Oh." Ethan went to the corner, grabbed the largest and most conspicuous Little Black, and walked toward the door.
"Saturday, don't forget to co."
"Yes, Professor!"
Returning to the dormitory, Ethan lit the portable fla bottle, placed Little Black on it, and began writing a letter to Cyril.
