Heaven-Sent Farm Girl Builds Her Fortune And Captures His Heart Chapter 722 - 721: Growing Vegetables (3)
On the third day of October, the vegetable seedlings planted on the mountain had grown quite a bit. At the sa ti, the snowflakes were generously falling.
Fearing the seedlings might get damaged by the frost, Shen Qinglan specially instructed Shen Qingning to place charcoal basins in each greenhouse.
Due to the cold weather, even with the greenhouses, the vegetables were growing very slowly. It took almost half a month before it was ti to transplant them.
Looking at the lush green scenery inside the greenhouses, not only the Shen Family but even the laborers were amazed.
For the convenience of tending these vegetables, Shen Qingning had already asked soone to build several earthen huts for the laborers before the greenhouses were erected. They were constructed using yellow earth mixed with straw.
Upon learning that the Shen Family had managed to grow vegetables in winter, while envious and jealous, the villagers also thought of planting next year.
Of course, once they learned about the costs of growing them, the villagers gave up.
They all thought that the charcoal was bought by the Shen Family, but they didn’t know that Shen Qinglan had prepared them beforehand.
Early on, when she suggested Shen Qingning plant vegetables in greenhouses, Shen Qinglan had arranged for people to burn large pieces of dry wood into charcoal.
When Old Tang got the news, he ca through the snow, looking for people and brought along Duan Yunfei and a few others.
Lately, Shen Qinglan had been busy helping Shen Qingning tend to the vegetable garden and hardly went to town.
Because of this, Duan Yunfei ntioned it several tis.
So, when he heard Shopkeeper Tang wanted to visit, he imdiately joined them.
Once they welcod them into the house, Old Tang said with a smile, "I heard the vegetables Shen Miss planted survived, so I wanted to co and see how they were grown."
Shen Shan laughed and said, "We were surprised too. Let’s wait until the snow lightens a bit, and then I’ll show you."
Duan Yunfei looked at Shen Qinglan and whispered, "Madam is indeed amazing!"
Shen Qinglan smiled and said, "I didn’t expect them to grow either."
"Truly amazing!" Duan Yunfei couldn’t help but praise again.
Le Zhao smiled and asked, "The ones we planted, are they growing too?"
"They are," Shen Qinglan nodded. "They’re growing very well; we’ve already transplanted them."
Le Zhao excitedly said, "I must go and have a look later."
He was sowhat looking forward to what they had planted themselves.
"The snowfall today isn’t that heavy; why don’t we go and have a look now?" Old Tang proposed.
He was already sowhat impatient.
"In this frozen world, it’s difficult to find so fresh green vegetables to eat!" Xuan Ying said, "Are the vegetables edible?"
"They’ll be ready in a few days," Shen Qinglan smiled. "You can pick and eat them soon."
"May I take so back with later?" Xuan Ying inquired. "Recently, at the Guest House, we’ve been eating mostly at and pickled vegetables, and I’m getting tired of it."
Shen Qinglan nodded, "Sure, I’ll pick so for you to take back later."
"Why don’t I take them there?" Shen Shan asked.
Shen Qinglan shook her head, "No need, Dad. I can take them myself."
"I’ll go too," Shen Qingzhu said. "I’ve been busy with elder brother delivering goods and haven’t had a chance to see them."
Shen Qinglan nodded, "Alright."
Dong Yao reminded them, "Rember to wear your straw coats and bamboo hats."
Both nodded, and Duan Yunfei was already wearing a straw coat and bamboo hat, so Shen Qinglan didn’t ask further, just handed two sets over, one for herself and another to Shen Qingzhu.
Old Tang smiled and asked, "Are the vegetables you grow for your own consumption or are they sent to the Guest House?"
Shen Qinglan replied, "We also eat them ourselves and send so to the Guest House."
The Guest House’s winter specialty is hot pot, where there’s a greater demand for vegetables. Plus, during the winter, if they’re sold at a higher price, there will still be custors ordering them.
