The Kimoyo bead on Lin Rui’s wrist was forcibly taken, and while Lin Rui was not pleased, he had no choice but to retreat to Bucky’s side, under the threat of the long spears pointed in his direction. At this moment, Bucky could only protect Lin Rui and fulfill the role of an uncle.
After obtaining the Kimoyo bead from Lin Rui’s hand, Shuri carefully examined it for a few seconds. S
he then promptly activated the laboratory’s equipment to dismantle the Kimoyo bead. Within a few more seconds, the holographic projection of the Kimoyo bead disappeared, and she now knew what had transpired with that bead.
“How did you manage to do this? The technology behind the Kimoyo bead is exclusive to Wakanda. How could an outsider like you have cracked it in such a short time?” Shuri asked Lin Rui with curiosity and astonishment in her tone while holding the Kimoyo bead that Lin Rui had modified.
At this point, Shuri’s initial shock and anger at the laboratory system being breached had subsided significantly. The change in Shuri’s attitude could be attributed to the Kimoyo bead that Lin Rui had altered, as she was now genuinely interested in the technology behind it.
If this technology were monplace outside, it would mean that Wakanda’s secrets and technology could no longer remain concealed.
As Shuri held the modified Kimoyo bead and questioned Lin Rui, the guy who had been hiding behind Bucky seemed to sense that Shuri’s tone was not as threatening. Therefore, he stepped forward from behind Bucky.
“How can I answer your questions when you’re pointing weapons at us like this? First, have them put away these intimidating things!” Lin Rui replied somewhat defiantly, tilting his head slightly as he looked up at Shuri.
Hearing Lin Rui’s words, Shuri actually chuckled. She hadn’t expected that they would try to negotiate conditions. After all, this was Wakanda, and even if she decided to eliminate them right away, it would be no problem. However, due to her brother T’Challa’s friendship with them, Shuri had no intention of harming the two outsiders.
“Okoye, stand down,” Shuri said with a light smile, addressing the Captain of the Dora Milaje.
“Yes, Princess Shuri!”
With a swish, in response to Shuri’s mand, the female warriors who had surrounded Bucky and Lin Rui promptly retracted their weapons and positioned themselves behind Shuri. Although they didn’t know the background of these two outsiders, they followed Shuri’s orders without question.
“Now, e closer. I’m quite interested in you now,” Shuri said as she walked past Bucky and Lin Rui, inviting them to follow her.
While Lin Rui felt a bit uneasy about the situation, he clenched his fists and decided to go along with it. As for Bucky, he had been somewhat overlooked, but he also followed suit.
The events had spiraled beyond Bucky’s control, and he could only follow Lin Rui’s lead. From knowing the plot initially to this point, Bucky had transitioned from having some control to being passive and improvising.
Once Lin Rui and Bucky were seated as instructed by Shuri, she began to scrutinize the two outsiders more closely. Bucky’s identity had already been investigated to some extent when T’Challa and Bucky became friends.
However, the information about Bucky was limited, leading T’Challa’s mother and the general of the Dora Milaje to have suspicions.
As for the unexpected appearance of Jackson, the son of Bucky’s former friend, in Wakanda, Shuri had recently instructed Wakanda’s intelligence systems to investigate him. Similar to Bucky, there was no conclusive information about the enigmatic young man before her. Consequently, Shuri was baffled by the identities of Bucky and Lin Rui.
“All right, you two, who are you? What is your purpose in ing to Wakanda?” Shuri inquired, sitting upright before Bucky and Lin Rui.
Although Bucky’s gaze showed a slight wavering, his training as a super soldier prevented any noticeable signs of disfort. On the other hand, Lin Rui appeared bewildered, and in terms of acting skills, Bucky couldn’t pete with him.
“Stop pretending. With Wakanda’s technology, I believe you can investigate anyone’s background. Yet, you’ve found nothing substantial about us. So, are you suspecting that we have ulterior motives for ing to Wakanda just because you can’t uncover our true identities?” Bucky finally spoke up, addressing Shuri.
Bucky’s words gave Lin Rui the opening he needed. “That’s right! While I understand that your technology is advanced, not being able to uncover our identities doesn’t automatically mean we have ill intentions toward Wakanda! Can you even determine who Phantom Knight is? Or Spiderman, for that matter? What about other Vigilantes? Does that mean they all have malicious intent toward Wakanda?” Lin Rui continued, his voice filled with indignation.
Hearing Bucky and Lin Rui’s responses, Shuri was momentarily taken aback. As she had just pointed out, if Wakanda’s technology and intelligence systems were indeed so advanced, why couldn’t they identify Bucky and Lin Rui’s true identities?
Moreover, Shuri was genuinely unaware of the Phantom Knight, Spiderman, or the true identities of other Vigilantes.
If it turned out that Bucky was merely living in Wakanda under an assumed identity as a regular mercenary, and Jackson was his friend’s son, but no more information could be extracted about them from Wakanda’s intelligence systems, perhaps, as Lin Rui had questioned, were there other individuals whose identities couldn’t be determined yet were suspected of harboring ill intentions toward Wakanda?
