138: Chapter 62: Doubts and Explanations_1 138: Chapter 62: Doubts and Explanations_1 A dazzling golden firework rose up from the shore, ringing out with lodious ‘ding ding’ sounds in the process.
The boats that had been shuttling across the lake neatly retreated back to the small pier on the shore upon receiving the signal.
At the sa ti, the group of fireflies hovering in mid-air turned into streaks of flowing light, gathered into insect cages at the feet of so grey-robed school staff standing on the shore.
As the insect glow faded, the cold moonlight once again claid its dominion over the lake, becoming the sole source of light in this world.
The Tree Elves, having felt the arrival of the night and their brains taken once again by the sleeping insect, one by one lazily climbed back into their tree holes via the weeping willow branches.
Only a few eager kappa remained, their bulb-sized yellow-green eyes wide open as they rummaged through the grass on the shore for fat at worms to replenish their energy for the day’s deep sleep.
After the gray-robed school staff and black-robed teaching assistants finished their tidy up, they left the lakeside quietly.
On the side of a pale rockery, remained the old man Ferna and two silent professors.
The old dog, nad May, with its face full of wrinkles, sniffed its nose and slowly chased a three-legged toad along the river bank.
Under the threat of its life, the toad demonstrated impressive agility, rushing to hide deep in the grass.
The old dog, panting with its tongue out, stubbornly chased after it into the grass.
“There have been so Red Chain Snakes in the grass recently, be careful not to get entangled with them.” Ferna warned as he followed his pet.
The old dog weakly wagged its tail to signal that it understood.
“Sir May’s energy is as abundant as ever.” remarked Professor Yi with so emotions, “He looked the sa way when I was still a student.”
“You an to say that it’s an undying old fart, don’t you?” Ferna cast him a sidelong glance.
Professor Yi showed a bitter smile without further comnts.
After a long while of silence, the old man broke the silence once again, questioning with a rather cold tone: “Why was the surprise inspection of the Wandering Bar suddenly called off tonight?”
“It was an ergency resolution by the joint professors’ eting.” replied Professor Montreya briefly.
“Hehe.” Ferna, looking at the shimring water surface and giving a cold snicker, “Without the ergency resolution of the joint eting, hundreds of patrol mbers would have stord into the Wandering Bar!…We had received solid intel that a Dragon Egg auction would be held there that evening…We’ve waited a whole three months for that Wandering Wizard to leave the bar, who knows when will be the next ti he leaves!
Moreover, after stirring up the snakes this ti, it will be difficult to catch him off-guard in the future…
Doesn’t the joint eting owe the Staff Committee a reasonable explanation?”
“Is it the Staff Committee or Vice Principal Ruoyu that needs an explanation?” Professor Montreya keenly pointed out.
“Is there a difference?” Ferna paused his magic wand, staring at the two professors.
“Just like the termination of the operation this ti, was it the decision of the entire committee, or was it Vice Principal Shi Hui’s opinion?”
Both sides of the conversation amusingly emphasized the ‘Vice Principal’s’ status.
The two professors silently looked at the lake.
After a while.
Professor Yi started to speak again, his tone still very gentle: “An accident occurred at the Wandering Bar.”
“The little Spirit Witch from the Li family was in contact with the sacrificial item by accident, which triggered the risk of spirit invocation.
According to the relevant rules of the Great Wizard Convention, we temporarily stopped all actions that could cause ‘irreversible damage’.”
“Why didn’t you use the pretext of preventing ‘spirit invocation’ to take temporary control of the scene?” Ferna asked grumpily, his brow furrowed.
“I believe that those Dragon Eggs must have been sowhere in the bar at that ti.”
“In reality, the maid didn’t really invoke spirits…and moreover, soone used a talisman to prevent the situation from getting worse — it wasn’t soone from the Wandering Bar, but a freshman who should be reporting to your patrol team in a few days.
By the ti the bar encountered troubles, the Wandering Wizard returned to the scene within a minute.”
“The mbers of the joint eting believe that it is almost impossible for the patrol team to find any valid evidence under the watchful eye of the Wandering Wizard.” Professor Montreya added in: “So we eventually called off the operation.”
“Is that all?” Ferna’s murky eyeballs moved slightly, his tone very affirming: ” That girl Shi Hui wouldn’t give up the operation just because of such bare possiblity…Her abhorrence towards Black Wizards is no less than those lives under the moon.”
“Vice Principal Shi Hui!” Professor Montreya corrected abruptly.
Ferna gave him a sidelong glance, his eyes filled with contempt.
“You are as sharp as ever.” Professor Yi stopped Professor Montreya’s impulse to speak with his gaze, explaining in a slow and gentle tone: “For the past few decades, rumors have circulated about a Dark Council appearing in the wizarding world.
Its mbers not only include wizards and moon creatures, but even so demons.”
“Based on our investigation, that Wandering Wizard is highly likely to be part of this Dark Council.”
“Therefore, the suggestion of the joint professor eting is to keep a long line.”
Professor Yi’s explanation was very simple, but the information divulged was exceptionally rich.
However, the old man leaning on his magic wand seed to be sowhat prepared for this piece of news, as his face did not show too much surprise.
“Hmph, that girl’s ambition remains as usual…
arrogantly overbearing.” Ferna snorted disdainfully, scoffed: “The result of keeping a long line, is usually losing both the fish and the bait.
Aren’t there enough reminders of this lesson?…Ever since the old man left, the joint committee has been filled with more and more chaos.”
“If the Staff Committee has objections to the resolution of the joint professor eting, it can officially question it through letters.” Professor Montreya blankly glanced at the old man, adding: “The joint eting does not accept private inquiries.”
Ferna let out a short and sharp laugh.
Rustling sounds ca from the grass near the lake.
The conversing individuals imdiately stopped speaking and turned their gazes towards the grass.
“Rustle”
The wrinkled old dog erged from the grass, holding the neck of a kappa in its mouth, shaking with each step.
It dropped the fruit of its efforts at Ferna’s feet, panting heavily.
“Sir May is as vigorous as ever.” Professor Yi complinted, “Exactly like the good old days.”
“Hmph, the Lake of Contemplation has been his turf for many years, if there’s still sothing here that dares to challenge May, now that would be surprising.” Ferna turned his aningful gaze on the two professors, “Like Beta Town…this is the First University!
Why do we need excuses to inspect a bar of a Black Wizard?”
“Exactly because this is the First University, we must strictly abide by order.” Professor Yi looked at the old man kindly but firmly, “If we do not follow our own established order, how can we expect others to do the sa?”
“I can’t argue with you young ones on such grand truths.” In the end, Ferna turned around and left in irritation, “But you should always rember, all order is for the purpose of preserving this university…and that bar, is a poisonous sore on the body of the university!”
May, with its short and stout four legs, followed the old man, disappearing into the woods along the lakeside.
Only the two professors were left, standing silently by the lakeside in the cold wind.
