Chapter 1569: Chapter 313 A Long Night (6)

“A bit lower, young man!”

“Hmm… like this?”

“No, still too big,” the plump witch behind the glass window scrutinized Korma, then nodded thoughtfully after a mont. “You might try taking off your cloak and hat. That should make you a bit shorter.”

As everyone knows, wizard hats have tall pointed tops, which, in a way, are a boon for shorter wizards.

“Then where do I put my hat and cloak?” Korma removed his hat, glancing around.

“You think this is your ho?” The receptionist exclaid in surprise. “Hold them in your arms, dear. You need to take care of your hat yourself—press it down firmly, and if you can fit it into your storage bag, even better.”

Korma imdiately stuffed his cloak and hat into the ring on his left hand.

But the teleportation Array still failed to activate.

The flickering ‘Mosaic’ darted around the chair, while sizzling sounds filled the air. Yet the visitor sitting on the chair hadn’t been displaced, not even a single hair.

“What are kids eating these days? At this rate, you won’t fit in,” the plump witch shook her head, grumbling repeatedly. “Of course, it’s not entirely your fault… I’ve reported this many tis. The teleportation Array in Danghag is ancient and can’t handle you over-nourished youngsters, but the institute’s budget is limited, and the Foreign Affairs Bureau would rather spend it hosting bigshots than on young people like you.”

“Bigshots?” Korma blinked.

“Those lofty Big Wizards,” the plump witch sighed deeply. “They don’t need to line up like you do… The old-tirs at the bureau say young people should experience more challenges, and a broken Array is fine… Hah! A load of nonsense! I heard Councillor Su from the Moon Council uses flower petal handkerchiefs to wipe his tail in the restroom—that’s a real young person for you!”

Korma couldn’t discern whether this was rumor or truth.

She was trying hard to think of a tactful and natural way to reveal that she was a Big Wizard, without making the sowhat noisy but well-aning plump witch feel awkward.

“Uh, I now…” Korma hesitated, cautiously raising her hand.

However, the receptionist evidently misunderstood her careful gesture.

“You’re still a bit big,” the plump witch patiently advised. “You need to tuck your legs further in… This is for your safety, being too large could risk getting stuck in a space crack during teleportation.”

“Sorry, I ant…” Korma flashed a wry smile.

“No, dear, it’s not you who should feel sorry,” the plump witch interrupted the North District Great Wise Person again, but she suddenly seed to have thought of sothing. She looked around cautiously before pressing her chubby face against the glass, like a pink stead bun. “I’m just curious… do you have ‘Eight Feet’ bloodline? Very few wizards are as tall as you.”

‘Eight Feet’ is a magical race unique to the Tokyo region, similar to the Qingqiu Fox clan or Romania’s Blood Race—of course, the latter has now spread to many corners of the world due to the expansion of magical powers.

But unlike the Blood Race or Fox race, the ‘Eight Feet’ are entirely female and extraordinarily tall, averaging two to three ters. Back when the Mage Alliance was conducting racial identification, the Big Wizards once suspected this race might be a branch of giants.

Though very few giants can use magic, the ‘Eight Feet’ excel at mastering most Basic Magic. This essential difference eventually earned them a dedicated chapter in the “Wizard’s Encyclopedia”.

At the plump witch’s question, Korma looked down at her long legs and suddenly realized she was now over three ters tall—according to the fast-track training content provided by the Alliance and school, Big Wizards eventually grow to tens or even hundreds of ters in height.

She was still quite short.

“No, I don’t have ‘Eight Feet’ bloodline,” the Big Wizard from the North District turned her left hand’s middle finger, stroking the translucent amber on her antique silver ring, with a touch of apology on her face. “As for the height… it’s just that I haven’t yet learned how to control my body size after recently advancing.”

“‘Eight Feet’ grow taller when advancing as registered wizards? Learned sothing new!” The plump witch sounded sowhat amazed, then realized Korma’s previous answer: “Wait… you don’t have ‘Eight Feet’ bloodline. Could you be a giant? Wait… did you just say ‘recently advanced’?”

She felt muddled and flipped through the materials she’d just organized on hand, reading for a good while.

Then she lifted her head to look again at the silver-haired witch standing outside the glass window.

“It says here you advanced as a registered wizard at the end of last year?” She muttered, her face bearing so suspicion as though she might press the alarm bell any second. “From last year to now… ‘recently’ would hardly apply… and your hair color’s different too.”

“Uh, more recently I advanced as a ‘Big Wizard’,” Korma brushed her shoulder-length hair and smiled politely. “Not as a registered wizard… the hair color change is due to other special reasons.”

“Oh, I see!” Behind the glass, the plump witch’s face lit up with realization. “That explains it if you’re a Big Wizard, no wonder you’re so tall…”

Then, the receptionist’s mouth froze on the word ‘tall,’ hanging open for a long ti.

She repeated her recent words in her mind, staring blankly at Korma outside the glass window. The silver-haired witch once again offered her a friendly smile.

With a bounce, the plump witch leapt from her comfy chair.

“A Big Wizard?!” She squealed in panic. “You’re a Big Wizard?”

“I recently advanced,” Korma repeated humbly, emphasizing, “So my control over body size is still not quite adept…”

“rlin Above!” The plump witch clutched at her curls, as though trying to yank her brain loose. “I actually called a respected Big Wizard ‘Big Guy’! I deserve to stay stuck in this reception room for life! This atrocious barrier Array—when you need it, it can’t even repel the pressure of a Great Demon. When you don’t, it fails to identify a respected Big Wizard!”

“No, you don’t have to feel…” Korma waved her hands sowhat awkwardly, instinctively glancing behind her.

Not far away, another witch in line craned her neck, curiously trying to see why the receptionist was reacting so dramatically.

Thanks to Danghag’s retention of old-school wizards’ privacy practices, the concealed barrier surrounding the glass window served its purpose, effectively isolating the queue-goers’ prying eyes and easing the pressure on the North District’s Great Wise Person.
