Chapter 1730: Chapter 474 The Origin of the Dark Council

As everyone knows, Wizard is an extrely broad concept.

In the “Wizard’s Code,” individuals and groups capable of using magic power and other natural energies, including but not limited to Traditional Wizards, Taoists, Monks, Scholar Practitioners, Ascetics, Priests, Onmyoji, Fox Immortals, Blood Race, Zombies, Werewolves, Ghosts, genetically mutated unnatural creatures, and Power Users using special equipnt, are all categorized as Wizards and are under the unified supervision of the Mage Alliance.

But this is rely the unilateral view of the Mage Alliance.

Just like how during the Eastern Jin dynasty’s legitimate rule for over a century, there were still people in Peach Blossom Spring living as if in the Qin era, ‘unaware of Han, let alone Wei and Jin’. Even though the Mage Alliance has undisputed dominance over the world, in the crevices of the Alliance’s oversight, there still exist so ancient organizations and individuals who deny their identity as Wizards.

In other words, not every Taoist, every Priest, every Ninja, or every Monk considers themselves a Wizard.

They believe themselves to have a mission greater than that of Wizards, with a legacy more civilized and glorious.

Using modern wizard theory to divide, these groups belong to the extrely conservative faction within Wizards—compared to Wizards who are willing to beco Witch Demons for the sake of further growth (The Radical Group), they are entirely at opposite extres.

Generally, as long as they continue to show obedience to the Alliance, are willing to abide by the rules of the “Wizard’s Codex,” and accept the Alliance’s summons perhaps once in a century, the Alliance does not fuss over such trifles, allowing them to continue their own legacy, considering it as preserving the ancient culture of the Wizard World.

However, it is obvious that this attitude of the Alliance does not satisfy these groups living in the ‘gaps’ of the modern world. Or rather, this indifferent attitude of the Alliance makes them even angrier.

Especially with the developnt of modern dinsional theories, the Magical World has seen an explosive ergence of a large number of high-level Wizards, quickly collecting nearly all the world’s best ‘seeds’, making those groups that have always been living in the gaps and struggling with their legacy even more marginalized, forcing them to adopt even more extre and conservative attitudes in response to external changes.

This is the fundantal reason for the birth of the Dark Council—where there is light, there must be darkness; unable to live in the light, one can only live under the dark—faced with rapidly changing realities, the extrely conservative factions need to huddle together for warmth and resist the further encroachnt of the Alliance, but to achieve all this, they require power capable of countering the Alliance.

High-level Wizards, whether in number or quality, far exceed the foundation of these extrely conservative factions. So, after much discussion, ‘Forbidden Curse’ beca the only ans the Dark Council could use to bargain with the Alliance.

The irony is plain to see.

The group most resistant to world transformation wants to rely on the ultimate achievent of modern magical theory’s greatest transformation (modern dinsional theory) as their foundation for survival.

Upon hearing the Druid High Priest’s answer, Professor Yao furrowed his three brows in unison.

“You have your own Forbidden Curse?”

He asked in a questioning tone, evidently skeptical of the Great Druid’s words, directly denying, “No, that’s impossible… The Alliance has curbed Forbidden Curse research. If you possessed a Forbidden Curse, it would result in backlash from the contract.”

The contract he referred to was the renowned “Forbidden Curse Non-proliferation Treaty”.

Forbidden Curses are world-destroying spells, a widely known fact. To prevent further spread of Forbidden Curses and stop dangerous Black Wizards from wielding this terrible magic, the Mage Alliance enacted the “Forbidden Curse Non-proliferation Treaty”.

This contract was initiated by the Magic Alliance Conference, with participation from nurous legendary and even ancient Wizards. The treaty stipulates that to protect the entire universe, any organization or individual belonging to the signatories must not conduct dinsional fluctuation experints, teach or research new Forbidden Curses, or conduct any unreported Forbidden Curse experints.

The Druid High Priest smiled slightly, “A contract is a docunt limiting the signatories of the ‘Forbidden Curse Non-proliferation Treaty’… unfortunately, the Dark Council neither approved nor signed this treaty.”

“You are playing with fire,” Professor Yao warned with a dark expression.

“To protect our beliefs and heritage, for a greater cause,” the Druid High Priest replied solemnly, “We have no choice.”

“Can they really do that?”

Xin Fat Man turned around, looking at his companions with a face full of astonishnt, “Does this an that the so-called Dark Council can destroy Buji Island with a Forbidden Curse at any ti? That’s terrifying!”

The five Atoning Hunters who once pursued Nikita in the Silent Forest—Zhang Ji Xin, Xin Fat Man, Dylan, Blue Bird, and Xiao Xiao—beca captives of the Rat Immortal and Wandering Wizard and were dragged into Black Prison.

Unfortunately, they had to face a battlefield with a dozen Big Wizards as soon as they entered Black Prison.

Fortunately, imdiately upon entering Black Prison, they encountered the captain of the Atoning Hunters and a certain Black Cat, who had once been a shining star at a school hunting party, which helped them quickly assess the situation and understand their predicant.

At this mont, these unfortunate yet lucky young Wizards were huddled at the edge of the debris from a collapsed prison cell, striving to minimize their presence, fearful of being blown apart by a sneeze from the Big Wizards and Great Demons above.

There was no way to escape.

On the one hand, although the mbers of the Dark Council had not restricted the young Wizards’ freedom, they had not permitted them to leave, only instructing them to ‘stay put and don’t wander’—warnings from the Big Wizards were always very convincing.

On the other hand, the young Wizards had no better escape plan. Compared to this area that had already beco ruins, other parts of the battlefield seed even more dangerous.

Raindrop-like spells still cast bright spots in the sunlight, and violent magical fluctuations rose and fell. Every step outward ant enduring attacks from both combatant sides.

Conversely, due to the standoff between the Big Wizards, this relatively narrow area of ruins was actually calr than other places, staying put was relatively safer.

But as it is said, danger and gain are always proportional.

Being exposed to such imnse risks was not only beneficial for honing the young Wizards’ will, but they could also hear many rare secrets from the chatter of the bigwigs.

For example, the Dark Council had acquired a Forbidden Curse.

“If they blow up Buji Island, won’t we have to skip the final exams?” Zhang Ji Xin looked despondently at the Big Wizards at the standoff, listlessly agreeing.

Dylan pouted, “I don’t think they have the guts to blow up Buji Island… Stay in the dark for too long, and not only does the vision narrow, but the courage also diminishes.”
