Chapter 1834: Chapter 55: The Vanished Test Subjects
When Thomas rushed into the experint hall with Hilda, he happened to see a two-ter-high cyan fla ignite next to the test platform. Within the fla, a black-robed wizard with a Raven Mask turned back and gazed deeply at them, the pale red raven eyes strikingly glaring amidst the cyan blaze.
Suddenly, the fire receded, and the Raven disappeared from the hall.
The two-ter-high cyan fla condensed into a ball, floating in mid-air and slowly rotating. Several teaching assistants who stord into the hall couldn’t react quickly enough, and watched helplessly as the ball of cyan fla suddenly exploded, turning into a rain of fire, striking down overhead.
“It’s the Fire Spell!”
Thomas shouted loudly, not only did he not evade, but instead charged into the sky full of fire rain, simultaneously raising the law book in his hand: “The wind is dreary, the rain is desolate!”
The originally dim laboratory beca increasingly dark, with wind and rain intertwining, temperatures suddenly dropping below freezing, and the heat exhaled visibly transforming into clumps of white mist before their eyes.
However, unexpectedly to the teaching assistants, those cyan rains of fire were not extinguished by the cold temperature and rain, instead they seed fueled more, as the originally bean-sized fire spots suddenly grew to fist size amidst the wind and rain. The laboratory hall just dimd for a re mont, soon engulfed by an even more intense heat.
Amid the light emitted by the heat, the teaching assistants clearly saw that the laboratory was nearly a few hundred ters long and wide, and over ten ters high. The laboratory had no windows, the only small door also destroyed in the previous battle.
The places initially subrged in darkness around the hall had a neat row of instrunts similar to nutrition tanks arranged against the walls, numbering several hundred. Through the semi-transparent covers, one could clearly see twisted and nacing faces inside—Ninfus, Minotaur, Siren, Fishman, Horse-Man, but most nurous were humans of varying ages, mainly human wizards.
From young boys to robust youths, to white-haired old n, all with eyes tightly shut, subrged in light red liquid inside the tanks.
Zhang Yu, wearing an ‘Alpha’ Mask, took a deep breath and shouted: “Extinguish the fire, rescue people!”
“This Fire Spell has mutated, ordinary magic is invalid!” Thomas, wearing a ‘Ding’ Mask, pressed the law book in his hand, looked around: “Can anyone summon a Drought Demon, or so Heavenly Water?”
Drought Demons, being Fire Elves, have natural restraining effects on all wondrous magic flas; Heavenly Water, as implied, is heavenly water differentiated from worldly rain and springs, extracted by wizards from the Milky Way starlight, able to extinguish all fire toxicity, with the only flaw being that the spell to summon Heavenly Water belongs to advanced magic and Heavenly Water is expensive, using it to extinguish fire is akin to cooking a chicken in a bull’s cauldron.
But right now nothing can be spared.
Imdiately, a wizard carrying a law book stepped out and loudly chanted: “Look at the vast Milky Way, illuminating the heavens!”
A glimr of silver-white unexpectedly and naturally erged in the center of the hall, seemingly a tiny river without head or tail, very light in color, with a very slender form, only a few ters long and arm-wide, originally should have been extrely unnoticeable, yet it emanated a grand atmosphere easily suppressing the murky dark and rampant fire rain in the hall.
This magic power-condensed Milky Way projection silently flowed in the void, as the glow circulated, the cyan flas originally flying everywhere were like swallows returning to the forest, tired birds to their nests, imrsing into the illusory Milky Way, transforming into scattered points of light within. Even the cyan flas that had fallen on the test platform and around the nutrition tanks, after a last mont of struggling, reluctantly left the half-burnt objects they had lodged in, following the call of the Milky Way back to the void.
In a short ti, the fires inside the room were completely extinguished.
Everyone let out a breath of relief.
“The east then brightens, moonlight erges!”
Accompanied by the whispering spell words, a not-so-large full moon floated lightly in mid-air, rescuing this fallen laboratory from darkness back into brightness once again.
“Lost a lot this ti.”
The wizard who released the Heavenly Water spell touched the ‘Wu’ Mask on his face, sighed repeatedly: “I spent months accumulating Starlight, just to record this one Heavenly Water spell… Originally planned to use it in a new magic experint idea.”
“Practice on public funds, you can claim reimbursent afterward, what are you worried about?” Hilda, wearing a ‘Yi’ Mask, laughed and patted the wizard’s shoulder.
“Reimbursent?”
The wizard with the Wu mask tilted his head, glanced at Yi with disdain, and sneered: “You already know the habits of those high officials in the finance departnt, just getting a proof requires running to at least seven or eight places… The whole process takes a few months, during which ti I could accumulate a new batch of Starlight myself!”
“Quiet!”
The wizard wearing the ‘Alpha’ Mask calmly warned his two babbling companions while quickly directing: “You two, go seal all experintal subjects and apparatus around… rember to wear silkworm skin gloves, prevent secondary pollution.”
“Not gonna chase them?”
The wizard with the Wu mask reached out and grasped in the air, sniffed beneath his nose, then asked while turning back: “They haven’t run far, feels like they can be trailed.”
“Can’t catch up now.”
Answering him was Thomas wearing the Ding mask, he was walking with Zhang Yu towards the center of the hall where an already half-destructed test platform stood, turned and explained upon hearing: “Those traces were deliberately left to distract us… don’t waste ti chasing, preserve this laboratory, maybe we can still catch their tail.”
Talking, he already reached the test platform.
The wide, clean test platform beca twisted and deford by the cyan flas, the Dragon Skin Belt atop now ash, the experintal subject it bound left only little charred remains, much like branches after a forest fire, exuding a faint dead aura.
Zhang Yu quickly perford hand gestures, categorizing and collecting those indistinguishable remnants on the platform.
“It’s not a wizard.”
Thomas rubbed his fingers against the charred remains, softly sighed: “Seems like sub-human wizards… the magic power reaction is intense indeed.”
“Who knows what experint they were conducting.” Zhang Yu cursed under his breath, raised a swab that brushed over the edge of the test platform, scrutinizing closely.
An intensely dark red was stained on the swab.
“It’s Demon Blood.” He simply analyzed, his mood worsened.
But this wasn’t the worst yet.
“Those test subjects have already been moved!” Returning urgently to report after investigating the experintal tanks and bodies inside was Hilda, she scread: “There’s only a layer of shed skin left inside! A Space Magic Array is drawn on the bottom of the tanks, can’t see the direction, only can determine they are not on Buji Island!”
Upon hearing this, Zhang Yu and Thomas exchanged glances.
Their hearts simultaneously shrouded in a layer of shadow.
