Last Monday was Forbidden Magic Day, a one-day holiday.
This Monday is Qingming Festival, another one-day holiday.
Two consecutive weeks of only four days of classes and three days off make the students of Jiuyou Academy quite uncomfortable. They feel as though they’ve stolen sothing that doesn’t belong to them, and there’s an inexplicable sense of unease walking around.
Except for Zheng Qing.
He hasn’t felt the wonders of the holidays at all.
Originally, he thought that the massive pile of assignnts was the biggest inconvenience this holiday, but before noon even hit, a series of paper cranes from the assistant group knocked on the window of dorm 403.
The first paper crane was there to deliver this week’s little hand task.
Under normal circumstances, Zheng Qing would go to the assistant office after Monday evening’s Yin Talisman Class, to collect this week’s etching task and new charm plates and fish skin paper from Zhang Yu. But today’s paper crane inford him that this week his little hand task would still use the charm plates from the previous week, with fish skin paper attached to the letter.
To Zheng Qing, this wasn’t bad news.
Then ca the second paper crane.
Also from the assistant group’s office, but this one notified ’Assistant Zheng Qing’ of a temporary patrol task.
Originally, on Qingming Festival, when the earth’s air rises and there’s heavy Yin energy, for safety reasons most students at First University would stay in their dormitories. But ever since Korma achieved Big Wizard status, and news of her exploration in Silent Forest before last year’s Qingming Festival got out (thanks to so rat), many students privately are eager to beco the new Korma this year.
Though many voices within the Alliance mock Korma for recklessly locking her potential advancent, to most wizards in this world, becoming a Big Wizard, even at the lowest level, is an unattainable dream. An exceptional rarity.
Young people are always filled with fantasies and action.
This brings a lot of trouble to the school—like the assistant team, which had to allocate additional manpower on top of their usual investigation tasks to patrol the campus and stop those with overly creative minds from sneaking out.
To be honest, when Zheng Qing received the second paper crane, he felt an inexplicable hint of malice from destiny. Because he was one of the people who went exploring with Korma in Silent Forest last year.
Elena was also among those who went along.
But in just one year, several participants involved in this event—Rat Immortal advanced to Legend, Korma beca a Big Wizard, Elena transford into a tree, and Zheng Qing bombed once—seed to still be on the sa island, but their distances had beco farther apart.
Life’s unpredictability, that’s how it goes.
Then there was the third paper crane, arriving slightly later than the second.
Perhaps the duty personnel at the assistant group’s office felt a little embarrassed too, as this paper crane hesitated upon entering. It hovered under the ceiling for quite a while before sheepishly landing in Zheng Qing’s palm.
Zheng Qing numbly unfolded the paper crane, read it, and only then realized his evening had also been arranged.
And it involved Korma.
Recently disappearing into Silent Forest, the Northern Hunting Team, the assistant group hasn’t given up on tracking clues related to them. Tonight, Zheng Qing is temporarily drafted, along with four other assistants, to visit a Horseman Tribe camp in the depths of Silent Forest and investigating a new lead.
"Really ’In Qingming season, rain falls; assistants run ragged, soul almost gone.’" Zheng Qing crumpled the letter into a ball and sighed deeply.
He turned to look outside the window, the drizzling spring rain carrying the sky’s ’Yin Clear’ energy, sprinkling over all of Buji Island, rging with the ’Yin Turbid’ energy rising from underground, blending into a hint of piercingly ’Pure Yin’ energy. This sort of atmosphere is highly attractive to creatures like ghosts and zombies, making it hard to ensure they’d avoid encountering those monsters in Silent Forest tonight.
He instinctively touched his Grey Cloth Bag, considering if he should hurry up and draw a few Anti-evil charms or Righteous charms to replenish his stock, just in case.
"If you don’t mind, I can drink a dose of Compound Soup Redy and go on a run to Silent Forest for you," Xin Fat Man very amiably handed a handful of raisins to Zheng Qing.
Zheng Qing chewed on the sweet dried fruit, feeling quite tempted for a mont.
He knew the Fat Wizard’s intention wasn’t entirely altruistic, but ultimately, the Fat Man just wanted to ’enter the frontlines’ to gain the freshest explosive material for his ’Golden Feather’ journey, without doing any harm to Zheng Qing.
But after careful consideration, the captain of the Atonent Hunting Team ultimately shook his head.
"I naturally don’t mind."
He didn’t hide anything, expressing his concerns sincerely: "But whether the assistant group or the school minds is hard to say... If it had been this ti last year, I would definitely have handed you a hair without hesitation. At worst, I’d just stop being an assistant. But this sester, I’m graduating, I can’t get new disciplinary actions, plus, ’One Two Three’ just entered Edge Academy, and I have to make sure they stabilize before I can feel comfortable ’dropping’ this assistant role."
"Drop the job? It shouldn’t co to that."
Xin Fat Man was evidently startled by Zheng Qing’s broad speculation, muttering: "It’s just young wizards helping each other, if we’re careful and cautious, we should be able to avoid detection!"
Before Zheng Qing could respond.
Doctor Xiao, who listened to their conversation for quite a while, couldn’t help but raise three fingers to express his point of view: "In this world, there are three things that can’t be avoided by being careful or cautious alone. One is farting, one is pregnancy, and one is a Shura Field."
He glanced at Zheng Qing after each term he ntioned.
Three tis in a row.
Zheng Qing finally couldn’t stand it anymore, retorting: "Where did you hear this ridiculous and random hyperbole? Not to ntion whether these three terms are even of the sa nature... Even if you’re right about them, what do they have to do with what Fat Man said?"
Xiao Xiao counted his fingers, analyzing very seriously.
"They are all products of ’luck’."
The diviner of the Atonent Hunting Team folded his fingers: "You think tightening your butt and keeping an eye on your lower part ans you won’t accidentally let out gas? You think being fully prepared ans never getting pregnant? Or, you think managing your ti ticulously ans you won’t face a Shura Field? These are all wishful thinking! Fat Man’s mindset just now is also wishful thinking! Hoping the assistant group won’t notice your little moves is like hoping the leader’s blind."
Xin Fat Man glanced at Xiao Xiao.
Then he looked at Zheng Qing, whose face had turned sullen.
He ultimately shrugged his shoulders, spread his hands innocently: "I admit, I have wishful thinking... But why do I feel that every word the Doctor says has nothing to do with ?"
