In the Great Hall that morning, Kane was sipping hot congee, but every swallow sent a sharp, stinging pain through his mouth.

"Ugh, I need to see Madam Pomfrey later." Kane conjured a small mirror and peered at a tiny, wicked white spot on the inside of his lip.

"Is that a hormonal imbalance? Or are you vitamin deficient?" Hermione peeked into the mirror. "You should eat more vegetables."

"Vegetables do nothing for a wizard. I'll just drink a potion later—one shot, job done." Kane shook his head dismissively.

"You'd better be quick about it. Professor McGonagall has the first class today," Ron reminded him.

"Mmhmm..." Kane grunted in agreent. He then noticed sothing odd: why was Harry so quiet? Not a peep.

He glanced over at Harry, only to see him clutching a travel magazine that had arrived with the morning owls. Harry was scanning the pages for ferry routes, flights, or even Floo Network connections near the Arctic Circle.

He was clearly desperate for a broom with the sa raw power as Kane's "Pee Pee Shrimp."

Unfortunately, he was coming up empty. Every inhabited city had so form of wizarding settlent, but the North Pole... well, wizards went there for vacations, but they weren't like Muggles.

They didn't have much curiosity about the "world" in a scientific sense and certainly hadn't built research stations. The only way to the Pole was a self-guided tour.

"Kane, how fast does the Shrimp actually go?" Harry asked suddenly.

"Normally? 166 miles per hour. If you're feeling reckless? Over 200. You know, the speed that made you three pass out."

"I see... England to the North Pole is about 2,500 miles. I'd only need a little over twelve hours..." Harry muttered, counting on his fingers.

Kane pursed his lips as he watched Harry do the math. What was that saying? One should not et too stunning a broom in one's youth. Seeing the "Pee Pee Shrimp" had clearly ruined all other brooms for Harry.

After finishing breakfast, Kane headed to the hospital wing. Madam Pomfrey had just returned from the Hall and was busy sorting various potions Snape had brewed over the sumr onto the shelves.

She stopped when she saw him. "Sothing wrong, Mr. Heath?"

Kane pulled down his lip to show her the white spot. "Do you have a potion for mouth ulcers?"

Madam Pomfrey shook her head. "I'm afraid not, Kane. In wizarding dicine, just like in Muggle dicine, the mouth ulcer is considered an 'incurable' condition. You have to wait for your body to heal itself."

Kane let out a half-dead groan and turned to leave. Seeing him so pathetic, Madam Pomfrey offered a tip.

"Perhaps you could use a petal from a Thunder-Bright Flower to cover it. There's a patch of them in the sunny spot outside the greenhouses.

Those petals have strong adhesive properties; it'll stay on well enough to let you eat normally until the ulcer heals."

She added a warning: "But don't try to pick them yourself. They'll strike you with lightning. Literally. Dozens of Muggles in Europe are struck every year because of those plants.

It's not usually fatal, but you don't want to spend your first day of term in a hospital bed. Go find Professor Sprout or Hagrid."

"Thanks, Madam Pomfrey. I'll go find... Hagrid," Kane said, nodding before sliding down the banisters to the ground floor.

Did he actually need Hagrid or Sprout? Of course not. His raincoat was insulated.

Kane made a beeline for the land outside the greenhouses. He found a plant that looked like a cross between a reed and a rose, with faint arcs of electricity dancing over its surface. This was definitely the Thunder-Bright Flower.

Kane didn't pull it up by the roots; he only needed a petal. He pinched one gently while steadying the stem with his other hand.

Almost instantly, a bolt of golden lightning dropped from the perfectly clear, blue sky. Just as Kane braced himself to test the "flavor" of the strike against his raincoat, the bolt veered off and was sucked into the tip of a wand.

Professor Sprout stood nearby, neutralizing the energy with a flick of her wrist.

"You must be suffering quite a bit from that ulcer, Kane. You should have asked ; these plants are dangerous," Professor Sprout said with a kind smile.

Kane imdiately stuck the petal onto his lip, looking for all the world like he was afraid she'd take it back and reattach it to the flower.

"I don't mind students taking what they need, but please, prioritize safety next ti," she said, her cheeks twitching as she fought back a smile at his desperate expression.

"Thanks, Professor! I'm off. Oh, one more thing—how does your wand work like a lightning rod? Is that so special spell?"

"Oh, no. It's just a simple Weather Charm. I just release a tiny bit of electricity to attract the lightning from the sky.

These plants need the nourishnt," Sprout explained. She waved her wand casually, and a small, localized raincloud began to water only that specific patch of land.

She flicked it again, and several more bolts of lightning crackled down from the sky into the flowers.

Kane's face twisted into an expression of pure, abstract shock. In his eyes, this wasn't a "Weather Charm" at all.

At that mont, he had only one thought.

"Professor, I want to learn this!"

Professor Sprout—a woman of imnse technical skill but peaceful nature, who would only ever plant an enemy upside down in the dirt and insist they were a Mandrake—looked at him in confusion.

"It's just a charm for tending plants. Are you sure you'd like it?"

Kane nodded vigorously. "Of course, Professor! To be honest, I was born with only two talents: magic and farming!"

"I see..." Sprout looked at the "longing for the soil" in Kane's eyes. She figured having him around the greenhouse wouldn't hurt.

Since her two best assistants from the seventh year had graduated, she was short-handed anyway. "Then co by after lunch, provided you don't have class."

"No worries, Professor!" Kane gave her an 'OK' sign. "All my classes this afternoon are 'filler' subjects. I'm guaranteed to skip them! I'll see you then."

Just as he finished, the bells from the main tower began to toll.

"Whoa! Gotta go! Bye, Professor Sprout!" Kane turned and bolted toward the castle.

"Ah... what a fine young wizard," Sprout sighed, watching him run. When he realized he wouldn't make it on foot, he skidded to a halt, bent over to scoop up Little Pumpkin, yanked a broom out of its mouth, and rocketed toward the Transfiguration classroom window.
