Soon, Kane arrived at Hagrid's hut and hamred on the door. Bang, bang, bang!

The door creaked open. "Kane? What brings you here?" Hagrid asked, looking pleasantly surprised.

"Hello, Hagrid. Are you free right now?"

"To be honest, no," Hagrid said with an awkward smile. "Dumbledore, for so reason, asked to head to Diagon Alley to buy a massive batch of Mandrake seeds. Normally that's Professor Sprout's job, but she's been quite busy lately, so... well, you know."

Kane nodded. Hagrid wasn't his personal nanny; the man had his own life. Besides, Kane didn't actually need an escort—he just needed to know where the big spiders lived.

Cutting straight to the point, Kane asked, "I heard there's a nest of spiders in the forest. Where are they?"

The question hit Hagrid right in the heart. Because of Kane's deceptively innocent looks, Hagrid imdiately assud the boy wanted to go make friends with the spiders. Finally! After all these years, soone else has noticed how adorable they are!

Hagrid scurried into his hut and pulled out a matted, white ball of spider silk, handing it to Kane.

"This is a common token of friendship among the forest spiders. As long as you hold this, they'll guide you straight to their nest."

Hagrid gave him a brief explanation of how to track them and left it at that. He figured children didn't like being lectured on how to make friends; he'd let Kane discover the "charm" of the little spiders on his own.

Kane, entirely unaware of Hagrid's sentintal delusions, only cared that this silk ball was his GPS to the nest.

Hagrid, you truly are the ultimate authority at Hogwarts!

As Hagrid left the grounds in high spirits—dreaming of a day when Acromantulas and humans lived in harmony and sold pets in Diagon Alley—Kane slipped back into the Forbidden Forest.

After circling for a while, he found a small spider. He offered the silk ball for it to sniff, and sure enough, the creature began leading the way.

What a helpful little spider, Kane thought. I'll definitely leave you for last so you can keep the bloodline going.

However, once they reached the heart of the colony and Kane laid eyes on Aragog, he realized he didn't need to worry about the "last one." There were so many spiders that, barring a miracle, he wasn't going to run out of targets anyti soon.

Aragog let out a series of clicks and rasps—a language humans rarely understood. Suddenly, a massive spider, seemingly the colony's second-in-command, skittered forward. Its giant mandibles were only inches from Kane's face as it inspected the intruder for any threat.

Kane looked at the giant head hovering in front of him. He'd been debating how to start the fight, and here the spider was, hand-delivering its own skull.

His wand snapped into his hand. He lunged forward, shoving the tip of the wand directly into the spider's head.

As Shadows surged into the creature's brain, it spasd violently. Kane followed up with a basic Flipendo—but since the spell originated inside the spider's head, the result was spectacular.

POP!

The giant spider vanished, replaced by a slippery Spider Gland and two bundles of Silk. Kane scooped them up and shoved them into his pockets.

In that mont, Aragog's ancient brain processed a single fact: This guy is an enemy.

He looked at the small spider that had brought Kane here. You did this?

Before he could click out a single word, the small spider's shadow twisted and warped into a horrific, oversized mouth, which promptly bit the small spider's head off.

It dropped two more silks and a gland. Interestingly, despite its small size, this one also dropped a piece of Monster at.

With the second death, the rest of the colony finally woke up. The little wizard was definitely not a friend. They sward.

Kane whipped his wand, summoning a massive cloud of Killer Bees as if he were sowing dragon's teeth.

The bees slamd into the wave of spiders. anwhile, Kane scurried around, franticly gathering every bundle of silk scattered on the ground.

"Human! How did you get that silk ball?" Aragog roared in human speech.

"Whoa, the big guy talks?" Kane was surprised, but only for a second. The ancient spider looked imposing, but it was clearly past its pri. The odds of Aragog successfully killing him were probably lower than the odds of Kane being hit by a falling bucket of tartar sauce.

By the ti his killer bees were being thinned out by the "infinite" spider horde, Kane had collected more than enough silk. He swept his wand in a wide arc, unleashing a wave of Shadow Fire to drive back the front line, then turned and bolted.

To a witness, Kane's actions would have been baffling. He had used a token of friendship to find a ho, murdered the second-in-command, summoned a bee-pocalypse to kill a dozen more offspring, and then—having apparently "satisfied" his urge to kill—simply left without a word. It was the behavior of a total madman.

"Hagrid... did you lead this lunatic to ?" Aragog sighed. He couldn't decide if his old friend Hagrid had been tricked by an evil shadow-boy, or if...

Wait, did sothing happen to Hagrid?

A look of profound lancholy settled over the giant spider's face. The next ti he saw Hagrid, they were going to have a very long talk.

Kane strolled out of the forest and placed the silk ball back on the stump in Hagrid's yard. He knew the way now; he didn't need the GPS anymore.

Back in the dormitory, he found Harry and Ron had already woken up and left—likely scavenging for food. Kane was happy for the peace and quiet. He sat down near his Alchemy Engine, pulled out the mountain of silk, and got to work.

He crafted a Top Hat. In the world of survival, a top hat restored Sanity much faster than a garland of flowers.

Plus, it was less embarrassing to wear. To make it "his style," he threw it on the ground, stomped on it to give it so character, and bent the brim into a smooth curve.

Perfect. A Cowboy Hat.

As the hat's aura began to soothe his nerves, he felt a wave of relaxation. He almost wanted to sleep. Speaking of sleep—he spent two seconds hand-crafting a Tent and stuffed it where his bed used to be. Another way to restore Sanity unlocked.

With the imdiate crisis solved, only one task remained for the Prestigahatitator: he needed four rabbits.

Aragog's kids were probably still hunting for him in the forest, so that was out. But he rembered seeing a few test rabbits in the Potions classroom...

Mmm...

Would Professor Snape welco ? Probably not.

Would I back down because of that? Absolutely not. , avoid his edge?

At that mont, Harry and Ron—who had just "liberated" a massive haul of food from the kitchens—were walking back through the dungeons.

They stopped dead when they saw Kane, looking aggressive and determined, marching straight toward the Potions classroom.

"???"
