Tap, tap, tap...

"He sleeps like the dead." Kane sighed, signaling Ron to stay put on the broom. He leaned over, using an Unlocking Charm to pop the window latch, followed by a Levitation Charm to lift Harry off the bed. Finally, he used a little trick Snape had taught them during class.

A tiny rotation, a sharp angle, then a gentle shove-pull.

Well, he still didn't wake up. Might as well just pull him out.

Using his magic, Kane hoisted Harry out the window, sandwiching him between his own back and Ron's chest. Once they had him secured, Kane reached back in to retrieve a sleeping Hedwig and Wu Jin (the crow).

"Alright, Kane, let's go!" Ron urged.

"Wait, one last step." Kane reached into his pocket, pulled out a pre-written piece of parchnt, and tossed it into the room before gripping the handle. Three boys, two birds, and one pumpkin vanished into the night with a loud whoosh.

"What was the parchnt for?" Ron shouted over the wind.

"A note telling them we 'took' Harry. Better than them calling the police for a kidnapping."

"Did you sign it?" Harry's voice suddenly drifted up, slow and groggy. He'd woken up at so point.

"What kind of stupid question is that?" Kane shouted back. "Why would I sign my na on sothing that's guaranteed to get yelled at?"

Harry's mouth twitched. He couldn't bla Kane, and he couldn't bla Ron. If he had to bla soone, he'd bla Hermione for not being a boy.

If Hermione were here, she'd have spotted the bugs in Kane's logic imdiately.

By taking him in the dead of night and leaving an "unsuitable" note, Uncle Vernon's first reaction upon finding it wouldn't be fear—it would be joy.

Finally, the boy's been kidnapped! If I just hold out on paying the ransom, he'll be gone for good and I can take the family on vacation!

"If only it were that simple," Harry murmured.

"Alright, Harry, since you're awake, we're picking up the pace. I was only holding back so you wouldn't catch a cold," Kane said.

Harry looked confused. "Isn't this top speed?"

"Harry, I suggest you humble yourself. This speed is about to exceed your imagination," Ron warned from the back.

That was all it took. Harry's competitive streak flared up. "Fly! Fly like your life depends on it! I ride a Nimbus 2000 in matches! You think speed can scare ? Impossible!"

With that bit of trash talk, Kane felt authorized to go all out. The last ti he'd hit these speeds, he'd had Lockhart screaming in his ear.

Harry didn't feel a smooth acceleration. First, he felt Ron suddenly grip him like a vise. Then, a physics-defying jolt of montum hit them.

Harry's mouth flew open like an unfastened flour sack, his cheeks flapping wildly in the wind.

"Wha-wha-what k-k-kind of sp-sp-speed is th-th-this?!"

Harry wondered if this was so new German-engineered masterpiece like the Ofenska, or perhaps the Light-Trail series launched by the Nimbus company this year. Even an old Light-Cone modified for racing might explain it.

Wait... Kane said he hand-rubbed this thing? It's called Pee Pee Shrimp?

"No, mate! You had this kind of skill and didn't tell us? Can you make one? I want one!" Harry shouted, his eyes gleaming with envy.

"Mmm, it's tough. I only have one main material left. But I can lend you this one for a flight soti."

"What's the material? I'll look into it!" Harry pushed, not really expecting a straight answer from Kane. Everyone knew Kane: weird clothes, but his pockets were full of things made from lted gold coins or mysterious gifts from "unknown relatives."

Surprisingly, Kane answered. "Actually, it's not that hard."

"Tell !"

"Go to the North Pole, kill two walruses, and bring their tusks. That's it."

Harry: "..."

If he didn't know Kane, he'd think he was being mocked. But knowing Kane, he realized this was a genuine blueprint. He just wondered if there were any comrcial flights to the North Pole.

The Next Morning

Mrs. Weasley walked out of the kitchen to find her husband and children lined up at the table. One, two, three... wait, eight?

She blinked and counted again. Sure enough, there was an extra little wizard.

"Oh, Harry! When did you arrive?" She asked, her maternal instincts shifting into high gear.

"Early this morning. Kane and Ron picked up on a broomstick," Harry explained.

"Exactly! Mum, scold them!" George shouted. "Yeah, riding a broom in the middle of the night! So unsafe! And they didn't tell you!" Fred added, grinning.

Mrs. Weasley simply walked back into the kitchen and brought out a pot of hot milk tea. "It rained last night; you three must be freezing. Drink this to warm up."

The twins fell silent. They had finally accepted that in this house, different people had different fates.

That night, squeezed into the triple-bed setup:

"Kane, are you happy here?" Harry asked suddenly across Ron.

Before Kane could answer, Ron sat up, baffled. "Why wouldn't he be?"

"Er, Harry's just having a bit of a localized 'emo' mont," Kane explained.

"I was just thinking," Harry whispered, staring at the moon. "If my parents were still here, would my ho be like this? Happy? Noisy? Would they love like they love Ron?"

Ron struggled to find a comforting answer. Kane, however, didn't hesitate.

"It would be different."

"How?" both boys asked.

"Your house would have sothing Ron's house doesn't: money."

Silence. They both wondered how soone could destroy an emotional atmosphere so efficiently.

A few days later, the Hogwarts booklists arrived at the Burrow. Kane suspected Dumbledore had hidden a GPS tracker on him.

Before he could ponder the legality of that, Ron let out a yelp. "What is this Defense Against the Dark Arts list?!"

Kane opened his own envelope.

Mmm...

Looking at the long list of books by Gilderoy Lockhart, Kane realized he had underestimated the man.

He thought Lockhart wanted to be a professor for the fa, but clearly, he had treated the headmaster like a high-level sales lead, securing hundreds of guaranteed sales in a single "business deal."

"With sales tactics like this, it's a wonder he isn't the richest man in Britain," Kane muttered.

Downstairs, the Weasleys were calling. It was ti for Diagon Alley. The Ministry had—for once—given its employees a day off to shop with their children.

The family, plus Kane and Harry, traveled via Floo powder to the Leaky Cauldron. Most wizards watched the Weasley clan with envy—so many children, all talented, and sohow they had managed to "collect" the famous Kane Heath and Harry Potter too.

The group split up at Gringotts. The Weasleys headed to their vault, while Kane accompanied Harry to the Potter vault. Kane told himself he was just making sure Harry wasn't lonely, and definitely wasn't thinking about "friendship fees."

Well, Kane justified to himself, I'm planning to hand-rub a broom for Harry too. Aside from the walrus tusks he has to get himself, everything else is coming from begging Dumbledore and Hagrid for materials. A little fee is fine!

After bagging so gold, they headed toward Flourish and Blotts. However, as they approached, a massive banner caught Kane's eye.

GILDEROY LOCKHART BOOK SIGNING TODAY!

Kane froze. He had ghosted Lockhart for nearly the entire sumr. eting him now, in front of a crowd...
