"I thought a student of Nicolas Flal would be entirely devoted to Alchemy."
Just like her earlier warning, Fleur spoke in English. Her voice carried a distinct French accent, giving it a sowhat husky quality.
Lucien's imdiate reaction was to wonder: Is she looking for trouble?
She had just been kind enough to warn him about the Abraxans to prevent him from getting hurt. Why the sudden shift?
Activate his Arcane Sight, the faint whirlpools surfaced in his dark green irises as he sharpened his vision. He saw that Fleur's expression was serious, her eyes filled with sincerity. It seed she was genuinely asking a question, not mocking him.
Well, I guess she isn't trying to pick a fight.
Lucien recalled sothing his teacher, Nicolas, had ntioned: if he hadn't t Lucien, he might have considered taking Fleur as his apprentice.
Guessing what was on her mind, Lucien replied in French:
"Fortunately, I'm quite good at learning. I have a knack for many things."
His pronunciation was impeccable, his flow fluid. Even Fleur couldn't find a single flaw in his accent.
However, the straightforward confidence of his answer stunned her. She was a proud person herself, known for her candor, but it was rare to et soone who admitted their own talent so bluntly.
Since he spoke French so well, Fleur switched back to her mother tongue. She parted her lips slightly, her tone soft but challenging.
"I am just curious. Exactly what kind of... genius... can earn the approval of Nicolas Flal?"
Fleur took light steps, walking across the snow toward Lucien.
As she drew closer, her stunning features beca clearer in Lucien's vision. The faint silvery glow surrounding her seed to echo the white snow, causing his heart to skip a beat once more.
Lucien knew exactly what this was: the Veela bloodline running through her veins was at work.
Veela were intelligent, humanoid magical beings possessing breathtaking beauty. Their skin seed to radiate a moon-like, pearlescent glow, and their hair fanned out behind them even when there was no wind.
To n, Veela possessed an irresistible charm, often driving them to the point of obsession.
However, when angered, Veela transford into terrifying, bird-like creatures—their faces elongating into beaks, scaly wings sprouting from their shoulders, capable of hurling balls of fire at their enemies.
Fleur was a quarter-Veela; the bloodline ca from her mother's side.
Clearly, she had inherited all the beauty and charm.
Lucien lowered his gaze, his mind analyzing. Aside from these external traits, does she possess other special characteristics? Can she transform into the harpy-like form like a pure-blooded Veela? Can she use magic unique to her species?
Just as Lucien was deep in thought, a pair of azure eyes suddenly locked onto his.
Hidden within that deep blue gaze was a faint silver light, carrying a soul-stirring enchantnt.
Staring into Fleur's eyes at such close range caused Lucien's thoughts to stagnate for a split second.
He was not used to—and thoroughly disliked—the feeling of his mind stopping.
His magic surged almost instinctively in self-defense. The black whirlpools in his pupils expanded instantly, turning his eyes into bottomless pools of darkness.
Since his Arcane Sight had been fused with and modified by the Basilisk's Eye, direct eye contact now induced a "stiffening" effect on other living creatures.
And at this mont, Fleur had the misfortune of being the first human to look directly and deeply into these eyes.
Unlike the external chill of the wind and snow, Fleur felt a terrifying coldness penetrate her very soul, spreading outward from her eyes. It was a freeze that sought to paralyze both her body and her spirit.
