....

[7:15 AM - First Setup]

We are starting with the wide shot - the galaxy establishing, no actress yet, just the world.

It should be simple but Clara’s obsessing over the cara move, this slow push-in that has to feel inevitable instead of chanical.

"Roll cara."

"Speed."

Shot 1, Take 1.

It contains three point two seconds of pure environnt - just color and light and the promise that sothing’s about to begin.

Regal watches it back once on the monitor.

"Moving on." he says.

That’s it, three seconds and done.

....

[7:47 AM - The Sphere]

The first actress shot is Zendaya standing on this six-foot diater sphere that the art departnt built - it’s on a motorized gimbal that rotates while she walks.

And the whole thing is painted this specific shade of pink that matches the digital environnt so when VFX stitches it together you won’t see the seam.

She is in the harness now - rigged under her costu - and the stunt coordinator is doing final safety checks while Zendaya stands perfectly still on a curved surface that’s about to start rotating under her feet.

"Are you feeling anything nauseous?" the coordinator asks.

"It’s not that worse as of now...." Zendaya says.

Dee, the movent choreographer who has been working with her for weeks, walks over. "We didn’t train for all those hours for now... you can trust her."

Tom’s watching from the video village with this grumpy expression. "Why does she get to do all the cool stuff?"

Clara didn’t even look up from her light ter. "Are you seriously complaining about that?"

Zendaya laughed when she heard Tom. "Tom, it’s finally my turn to shine. I was getting jealous watching you land all the best scenes - especially that staircase one where you acted like you slipped."

She paused, grinning. "Even though you actually did."

Tom groaned imdiately. "Ugh... don’t bring that up again."

I couldn’t help laughing at their exchange. Both off screen and on screen, the two of them had an easy rhythm that just worked.

....

[9:23 AM - The Plant]

This is where things get complicated.

There is this whole sequence where Zendaya’s character waters a dying plant, shields it from wind, covers it with a glass do, and watches it grow.

Except the plant isn’t actually going to grow - that’s all the VFX team will add the fruit and flowers and leaves in post - which ans Zendaya has to react to nothing and make us believe sothing’s happening.

She is on a smaller sphere now, three feet diater, and I genuinely don’t know how she is balancing on it.

The prop plant in front of her looks appropriately sad - wire armature, brown leaves, the kind of thing you’d throw away if you found it in your apartnt.

"Action."

She kneels on this curved surface, still in the harness but it’s loose enough that she’s supporting her own weight, and pours from an empty watering can that’s supposed to have water but doesn’t because water and expensive LED panels don’t mix.

Seven point four seconds of pouring nothing onto a fake plant.

The first take looks wrong.

Clara calls it before Regal does: "The light’s catching her face at the wrong angle when she leans in."

Grip moves a flag and we reset.

Take two: better light, but now Zendaya’s looking at the plant wrong - too much acting, not enough just observing.

Take three: both things fixed, but the gimbal rotation is slightly off-speed.

Take four: everything works.

Seven point four seconds in the can after four takes and about twenty minutes of adjustnts.

Tom was still watching from the video village.

He moved from standing to sitting in one of the director’s chairs, looking like soone who’s starting to understand that filmmaking is ninety percent waiting and ten percent hoping you got it.

"This is exhausting and I am not even doing anything." he says to no one in particular.

"Wait til tomorrow when it’s you in the harness." Zendaya calls over from the sphere, sohow having heard him from thirty feet away.

He did have a small mont in the sequence - a brief beat near the end of the five-minute clip where he catches Zendaya as she drops toward him.

"Actually, I am looking forward to it." he said. "Harness work has always been my thing."

Given his background in gymnastics, the idea of sothing like this had clearly energized him.

With that and a few more shorts taken it was packed up for the day.

....

[Next Day | 2:47 PM]

Last shot of the sequence.

The galaxy, sphere, and the plant, two days of it, it all ends here.

Zendaya drifts down, Tom catches her... and Done.

The rig for this one uses two diagonal cables from the ceiling track running at opposing angles.

Tom’s on a platform below.

Eighteen inches off the stage floor.

He doesn’t have a harness on him, just his feet and whatever gymnasts have in their legs that the rest of us don’t.

He had been doing pike stretches against the back wall while the rig team ran checks.

Rock was standing six feet behind Regal at video village. He had been like that all day.

"How are you doing up there?" Regal called.

Zendaya was already in position, held by the cables at roughly twelve feet off the stage floor.

The volu wall behind her had shifted to the deepest version of the sequence’s palette: dark aquamarine, almost navy, with those sa swimming stars except slower now.

"I could sleep up here." she said.

"I definitely prefer it if you dont...." He laughed.

The stunt coordinator did his final check. He walked the cable run twice, checked both anchor points, looked at the tension gauge, said sothing quietly to the head rigger who nodded.

"We are good." he said. "Whenever you are ready."

Regal looked at the monitor.

Then at Tom and the fra.

He had the expression he got before he was serious about - not tenser, just more present, like he had turned so internal volu down so he could hear better.

"Alright." He settled into his chair. "Let’s do this clean. Roll cara."

"Speed."

"Action."

....

Zendaya ca down.

The cables gave exactly as designed, point-four ters per second, her arms open slightly at her sides, the volu wall shifting the stars behind her like they were rearranging to fra her.

Tom watched her co, while his arms lifted on the mark.

She settled into them and the cable tension transferred gradually, her weight moving from the rig to him by degrees, and for a mont they were held in this thing between falling and landing where neither was quite true.

On the monitor it was, even without any CGI - the shot looked beautiful.

For five seconds, nobody in the video village made a sound.

Rock was watching the rig.

?!!But his head went up about a half second before the anchor slipped.

"Wait!"

He stepped forward from behind Regal’s chair.

....and in that sa mont the left cable slipped.

One side of the suspension went dead and Zendaya swung hard sideways, still attached, cables still on her but the physics completely broken, and Tom was holding her when the montum transferred and his body made the decision before anything else could.

He turned her away from the fall, taking the edge of the platform backward.

They ca down together and he hit first and his legs took the complete impact, which was clearly shown in his next shout:

"Fuck!!!"

Rock was already moving before they landed. "DIC!"

All day he had spoken maybe thirty words, quiet, to Regal, to no one else. This ca out of him like a door breaking.

"DIC ON STAGE NOW–!!"

He was at the platform in four steps, clearing a PA who was frozen in the way without touching him.

He got to Tom and crouched and looked and his face did sothing for a second before he locked it down.

He placed a hand flat against Tom’s chest and left it there for a mont, not pressing or checking for anything in particular, just holding it as if his hands had acted before his thoughts had ti to catch up, settling on the first point of contact they found.

Regal was already on his feet too.

The whole scene registered in a single glance - Tom on his back, Zendaya beside him, the rigging cables hanging wrong, Rock already crouched beside them, and sothing sharp moved through him, a reaction that rose and was contained in the sa instant.

He got to Tom’s other side and crouched down low.

"Tom."

"Hey...." Tom was looking at the ceiling. His voice was almost normal, which was the strangest part. "So I have been thinking, and I genuinely believe this is not as bad as it looks, I have had worse, there was this thing in Prague in 2013 where I —"

"Tom."

"–fell off a completely stationary bicycle, which is embarrassing in a way this isn’t, this was at least —"

"Tom."

He stopped.

Regal’s hand was on his jaw, not rough, just - there. Turning his face away from the ceiling.

"You’re okay." Regal said. "I need you to hear say that. You are going to be okay."

Tom looked at him. Sothing flickered in his face, so crack in the performance.

"Actully I think I am not. My legs are bad..." he said.

Tom breathed out through his nose slowly.

Zendaya had his hand since she got there and nobody had been able to move her and nobody was trying anymore.

The dics ca through the stage doors at a run.

Rock stood up and turned and the room rearranged itself around him without him saying anything. People stepped back. A path opened.

He directed with his hands - two grips to the left, a cluster of PAs back toward the wall - and his face was completely flat and completely focused and nobody questioned a single movent he made.

When the dics got to Tom, Rock stepped back to give them room and went and stood behind Regal.

....

The stage was still.

Regal turned around and the whole room felt it - the quality of his attention shifting from Tom to everything else, and everything else included the rigging supervisor who was already on a ladder pulling the failed anchor hardware, and the coordinator standing with the check sheet in his hands like he didn’t know what to do with it.

Regal walked to the coordinator.

"Show the checks." he said.

"It was inspected three tis, we have every signature —"

"I am not asking you to defend yourself. Show the checks."

The coordinator showed him.

Regal went through every page while Rock stood two feet behind him and read over his shoulder without being invited to, which he could apparently do because Regal didn’t tell him to stop.

The rigging supervisor ca down from the ladder with the hardware bagged. "Manufacturing tolerance failure in the track runner. There was nothing visible on inspection, it’s a sub-surface —"

"So it couldn’t have been caught."

"Not with standard–"

"With anything."

A pause. "No. Not with anything we had."

Regal handed the check sheet back to the coordinator. He looked at the bagged hardware for a mont.

"Get the manufacturer’s docuntation on that runner." he said. "Full production specs by tonight." He looked at Rock, who was already on his phone. "And get the car."

"It’s outside." Rock said, without looking up from the phone.
