He wasn’t in a hurry to return ho, but strolled through the town to see if anyone was following him. Seeing no one, he bought two roast chickens to take ho.
Just arriving in his own yard, he saw Daisy watching ants moving at the corner of the wall.

But he didn’t hear Daisy muttering, “How co there’s not a single straggler today?”

Chen Jie smiled and asked, “What are you doing?”
“Watching the ants move house.”
Daisy answered, and then Chen Jie pulled out the roast chickens and said, “Look what your brother-in-law brought for you?”
“Wow, big roast chickens!”
Daisy jumped up excitedly.
Chen Jie asked, “Where’s your sister?”
Daisy said, “She’s at ho hatching chicks.”
“Hmm?”
Chen Jie looked puzzled. Was it what I thought?
Then Daisy went to take the roast chickens from Chen Jie.
Noticing the bite marks on Chen Jie’s hand.
“Brother-in-law, are you hurt?”
Chen Jie chuckled and withdrew his hand, “It’s nothing.”
Daisy thought about it, didn’t speak, and walked in with the roast chicken.
Upon entering, Chen Jie saw Su Yunjin fiddling with a wooden basin. Inside the wooden basin was a pottery basin filled with dry grass and other insulating stuff where eggs were placed, followed by pouring warm water at the right temperature into the wooden basin and covering it with a small cotton blanket for insulation.
After finishing all this, Su Yunjin looked up and saw Chen Jie had returned.
She got up, moving her body slightly, feeling a bit of pain, but still smiled and said, “Husband, you’ve co back.”
Chen Jie asked, “What is this?”
“Oh, didn’t I say the day before yesterday that I wanted to raise so chicks and ducklings? Since I couldn’t go to the town, I thought of hatching so myself.”
“Erba Auntie helped buy a few eggs.”
Chen Jie said, “Is this not too much trouble for you?”
Su Yunjin replied, “It’s not troubleso, just regularly change the warm water and keep it from cooling. Aunt Erba said it only takes twenty-one days to hatch chicks.”
Chen Jie heard this and smiled, “That’s too arduous.”
“What’s arduous about it? There’s nothing else to do anyway; this gives sothing to occupy myself with.”
Su Yunjin spoke, smiling sweetly.
She went to grab Chen Jie’s hand but just as she touched Chen Jie’s hand, her expression turned to shock, and in the next mont, she looked forlorn.
Chen Jie also saw her expression, even more so, he saw the row of teeth marks on his own wrist.
Damn it, he knew that woman would cause trouble.
Chen Jie looked at Su Yunjin, only to see her trying hard to put on a smiling face, “Husband, you’ve been working hard outside, I’ll go cook for you.”
After speaking, she turned and went into the inner room, fetching a bowl to scoop up sorghum rice.
But while turning around, her face was already covered in tears.

“Shush!”
Chen Jie made a shushing gesture.
“Do not speak of this matter aloud; my life is in your hands now.”
“Mmm, don’t worry, husband, I heard nothing.”
Su Yunjin said, following which she scooped a few more bowls of sorghum flour, “Husband, I’ll make so more stead buns. From now on, it’s best not to buy food outside; it might get noticed by those with intentions.”
“Mmm, I know.”
Chen Jie nodded, Su Yunjin continued, “Husband, you shouldn’t have told such secrets.”
Chen Jie: “You’re my wife, I don’t want misunderstandings to create a rift between us.”
“Husband, I was wrong not to trust you…”
“Enough, let’s not bring this up again.”
Su Yunjin nodded, then after thinking for a mont, she said to Chen Jie, “Husband, I know you are destined for great things. I don’t ask that you love only all your life, just rember, there will always be two people waiting for you at ho.”
Moved, Chen Jie embraced her waist.

Su Yunjin frowned, wondering uneasily.
Daisy ntioned, “Who else, I heard everything last night.”
Last night?!
Su Yunjin was startled; she was all too aware of what had happened last night, rembering the madness, she still felt uneasy walking!
Daisy continued, “Yeah, last night. I heard sister pleading pitifully, crying, and kept asking brother-in-law to be gentler…”
Hearing this, Su Yunjin felt her head was about to explode; had she heard all that?
Was she really that loud yesterday?
