Chapter 9: Chapter 9 Bad Brother-in-law, Not Too Bad Though
Chen family, a large fragrant bowl of rabbit at was placed in front of Chen Jie, the oily aroma was tantalizing.
Su Yunjin and Daisy, Su Yunrui, sat across the table.
At that mont, Daisy’s eyes were fixed on the rabbit at in front of Chen Jie, unable to look away, she was desperately swallowing saliva but dared not reach for it with her chopsticks.
She still rembered how she had once eaten her brother-in-law’s stir-fried eggs and was slapped twice by him, going hungry for a whole day.
Now, even if she was very tempted, she dared not eat.
At this point, Su Yunjin split her wild vegetable bun in half for Daisy, holding the other half herself, while the rest were all put on Chen Jie’s side. Su Yunjin actually ate very little, as previously Chen Jiusi had called her a family ruiner.
She was only allowed half a wild vegetable bun each day, which had more wild vegetables than high-protein grain.
Daisy held the wild vegetable bun, but her gaze couldn’t shift away, so she bit a large piece of the bun, muttering in her heart, “Rabbit at is not tasty, it’s sour, it’s sour…”
Daisy muttered, while Su Yunjin lowered her head to eat her wild vegetable bun, refraining from eating the stewed rabbit at in front of Chen Jie.
This was a rule previously set by Chen Jiusi, where all the delicious food at ho was for him, the head of the household, to eat first, after which Daisy and Su Yunjin could eat the leftovers.
Chen Jie sighed and reached out to Daisy, startling her. Was she going to be hit just for looking?
Frightened, her little face turned pale, but the anticipated slap didn’t land.
When she opened her eyes, she discovered that her rice bowl was gone. Daisy almost cried out, thinking the bad brother-in-law was again refusing her food.
But the next mont, sothing unexpected happened. Under the puzzled and shocked gaze of the Su relatives, Chen Jie split one-third of his large bowl full of rabbit at into Daisy’s bowl.
Then he took Su Yunjin’s rice bowl and moved a third of the rabbit at into hers too.
After finishing, he placed the bowls in front of the ladies under their astonished gaze, as they looked at Chen Jie, puzzled.
Chen Jie knew explanations were futile, so with a commanding tone, he said, “Eat it all.”
The ladies stared in surprise at Chen Jie who began eating without further explanation, biting into the rabbit at that tasted slightly gay due to the lack of spices at ho. If there were spices to blanch the at a bit, the flavor would have been enhanced greatly.
But this body had probably gone too long without oily food, so even the slight gayness tasted exceptionally delicious!
The ladies still wore incredulous expressions.
“What, why are you all just watching , eat!”
Chen Jie spoke up.
At that mont, Daisy couldn’t hold back anymore and swallowed hard, “Brother-in-law, can I truly eat this?”
Chen Jie laughed and said, “Nonsense, if I tell you to eat, you eat. It’s permitted by your brother-in-law.”
“Well, then I’m eating.”
Daisy couldn’t hold back any longer and took a bite of rabbit at, instantly getting lost in its deliciousness.
It was so tasty!
Tears ca to Daisy’s eyes, but her body curled up, thinking the bad brother-in-law was maybe playing with her so he could have an excuse to hit her after she ate.
But for such tasty at, a beating was worth it.
However, the anticipated slap didn’t co. When she opened her eyes, she saw Chen Jie smiling at her, “Is it tasty?”
“Mm.”
Daisy nodded, Chen Jie said, “Then eat more, we still have one more bowl of at if it’s not enough.”
Daisy’s eyes lit up when she heard the words, then she disregarded anything else and continued eating eagerly, looking at Chen Jie and suddenly feeling that her brother-in-law didn’t seem as awful as before.
Su Yunjin did not touch her chopsticks, her expression sowhat strange as she looked at Chen Jie.
Chen Jie said, “What are you looking at? Do you think your husband has beco more handso? Hurry up and eat.”
“Yes, sister, hurry up and eat. It’s so delicious…”
Su Yunjin hesitated for a long ti but finally started eating the rabbit at. However, she ate cautiously, as if she was not quite adjusted to Chen Jie’s sudden change.
Daisy, on the other hand, didn’t mind these things and quickly finished the at in her bowl. Seeing this, Su Yunjin moved the at from her own bowl to Daisy’s.
Now that her bowl was devoid of at, Chen Jie, seeing this, added a few pieces of at to Su Yunjin’s bowl from his own. Su Yunjin wanted to give so to Daisy but was stopped by Chen Jie, “Eating too much at all at once isn’t good.”
Hearing this, Su Yunjin stopped and obediently ate the at in her bowl.
A bowl of at and three wild vegetable dumplings filled Chen Jie up. Although it wasn’t very delicious, it wasn’t bad either. He patted his stomach and turned to a content Daisy, “Is it good?”
“Good.”
“Then good, I’ll get you more at to eat in the future, okay?”
“Okay.”
Daisy seed to have already forgotten Chen Jie’s ‘terrible’ side.
anwhile, Su Yunjin, having finished the at in her bowl, looked up and asked with slight worry, “What about Lu San?”
Chen Jie replied, “I’ve told you, it’s nothing, just a hooligan.”
After that, Chen Jie looked at Su Yunjin and said, “By the way, Yunjin, do you rember I have an old yellow book with ‘Yang Chun Skill’ written on it?”
Hearing this, Su Yunjin nodded and said, “Yes.”
“Really, show it to .”
Excited, Chen Jie spoke while Su Yunjin hesitated for a mont, then got up and fetched a wrapped leather from the cupboard. Opening it revealed a pile of old books.
When their family was driven out of the big house, Su Yunjin didn’t bring anything else but these old books.
Originating from a scholarly family, Su Yunjin valued the inheritance of such books more than money.
Chen Jie walked over, and saw that among them were mostly dical books and various case studies, which were his grandfather’s life work.
Unfortunately, as the saying goes, selling the ancestors’ land doesn’t hurt the prodigal son, this wasteful descendant didn’t care about these intangible treasures at all, especially when he saw that the cover of the Yang Chun Skill was damaged and even had traces of soup on it.
Originally, when they moved into this house and the dining table was uneven, Chen Jie had used the Yang Chun Skill to prop up the table, until Su Yunjin saw it and took it back, heartbroken.
Chen Jie really despised the stupidity of his predecessor; treating antiques like trash was no wonder they say wealth doesn’t last more than three generations. There’s a reason for that.
Chen Jie took the Yang Chun Skill and also kept the other dical books. Under Su Yunjin’s astonished gaze, he began to seriously study them.
And for his unusual behavior, his explanation to Su Yunjin was, “Scholars learn skills so they can have a craft to earn a living in the future. Otherwise, how could I support you two sisters?”
As for Chen Jie’s seemingly reford behavior, Su Yunjin was not very convinced; she was still observing.
After finishing the al, Chen Jie took the Yang Chun Skill and seriously started reading, while Su Yunjin went to wash dishes and clean the stove. Daisy, rubbing her belly, took a small stool to the front door where there was an anthill.
Daisy loved watching ants move house; these little ants were her best playmates and snacks.
Yes, when Daisy was desperately hungry, she would secretly eat a few straggling ants. They tasted sour and very delicious.
However, Daisy controlled herself when eating them, never eating more than three a day…
